Method: The subject of this survey consisted of 313 3rd- 5th grade from 4 elementary schools in Kyungi-Do and Kwangwon-Do. Data were collected from March to May, 2002 using a questionnaire about 「safety education needs」, 「knowledge about injury prevention」, 「attitude about injury prevention. Result: 1. The degree of safety education needs showed averaged 77.50 on the basis of 100 points. 2. The degree of knowledge and attitude about injury prevention showed averaged 72.81 and 81.74 seperately on the basis of 100 points. 3. With the respect to the demographic characteristics, there were stastically significant differences in safety education need according to children's grade(F=8.692, p=.003), sex(t=-2.059, p=.040), family type(t=-2.229, p=.027) and in knowledge & attitude about injury prevention, there statiscally significant difference according to experience of injury prevention education(t=3.058, p=.003; t=5.308, p=.000) each. 4. The level of safety education needs is correlated at signficant level with knowledge and attitude about injury prevention of childrens(r=.166, p=.048; r=.265, p=.001) and between knowledge and attitude about injury prevention, there was significant correlation (r=.427, p=.000). Conclusion: From this results, nurses can plan safety education program appropriate to children's needs, level of knowledge and attitude about injury prevention.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the content of nursing interventions applied to patients with thoracic injury who visited a trauma emergency room (TER) or an emergency room (ER). Methods: Of 3,938 trauma patients admitted to this hospital between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2020, 320 adult patients with thoracic injury (94 to TER, 226 to ER) who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled. Patients' data were acquired from their electronic medical records. General and clinical characteristics of these subjects along with nursing interventions were analyzed. Results: There were statistically significant differences in the length of stay, treatment outcome, and level of consciousness between thoracic injury patients who visited TER and ER. Average thoracic Abbreviated Injury Scale score and average Injury Severity Score of thoracic injury patients who visited TER were 3.13 and 13.54, respectively, which were significantly higher than those of patients who visited ER. The numbers of nursing actions applied was 4,819 for TER and 3,944 for ER, which were classified into five domains, 18 classes, and 56 interventions. The most domain of interventions carried out in both TER and ER was physiological: complex. Classes including Crisis management and Thermoregulation were not carried out in ER. On average, 16 more types of interventions were carried out in TER than in ER. Conclusion: This study demonstrated characteristics of thoracic injury patients and nursing interventions by emergency room type. Based on results of this study, standardized nursing interventions need be applied to thoracic injury patients visiting TER and ER.
This study analyzed data from the Korea National Hospital Discharge In-depth Injury Survey (KNHDIS) (2004~2021) and found that for the young-old with disabilities, the location of injury was roads and main roads, the activity at the time of injury was daily life, the mechanism of injury was falling and the type of transportation accident was collision with passenger cars. In the old-old, the characteristics by type of injury were fractures, the intentionality of the injury was unintentional, the place of injury was residence, the activity at the time of injury was daily life, the mechanism of injury was falling and the type of transportation accident was pedestrian. In conclusion, the old-old were more likely to suffer injuries at home and in daily life than the young-old with disabilities, and old-old injured patients were more active than the old-old, resulting in higher falls and transportation accidents and older seniors were more likely to have pedestrian accidents. Based on the information collected from the young-old and old-old, it is believed that efforts to prevent damage that consider the characteristics of the elderly are necessary.

The purpose of this research conducted has been an the development of a computer program to be used for nursing of spinal cord injury patients. The research is also intended to contribute by supplying the basic data, to the development of other programs in relevant areas where similar nursing information system is required. This research used System Development Life Cycle method. Results from the study were as follows : The scope of Information System in nursing practice were based on a wide range of mateials as charts at four hospitals in Pusan that cover the nursing period of spinal cord injury patients from admission to discharge and other sources of reference, the research is done for nursing diagnosis, nursing history, admission and discharge education, and the performing of doctor's order, which were divided into a subsystem that consisted of help, Patient Management, Performing of Docter's Order, and Basic Data Management and then these was analysed systematically using Hierachy Plus Input Process Output, necessary information, data flow diagram, and conceptual designs were developed for chosem system. Furthemore, the system has been programed by a conceptual design that includes the objects of the program and the origins of the sources. The oder to make sure of the proper function, the computer program was actually applied to a nursing practice that had been developed for a hypothetical situation through the two nurses who were in charge of spinal cord injury patients after they were trained to understand the structure and the contents of computer program about the nursing practice from using the computer program developed. Also, the compensatory strategy has been worked out against any problems to arise. It is expected that this kind of nursing practice information system to be used for the spinal cord injury patients that has been developed through the processes shown above will increase the satisfaction for both patients and nurses by enabling them to give more professional advice and service to the development of more information systems for many hospitals.
The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of sexual rehabilitation education on the knowledge and adjustment of sexual of spinal cord injury clients by the method of nonequivalant control group pretest-posttest group. The data were collected from Jan. 19 though Feb. 16, 2000. The experimental group was 26 spinal cord injury client from one rehabilitation center, and the control group was 26 spinal cord injury client from two rehabilitation center. Sexual rehabilitation education was done with manuals, videotapes and chart. Education time was 120 minutes a week for 2 weeks. The study tool was about Sexual Knowledge, designed Song, Chung Sook(1990) and SIAC(Sexual, Interest, Activity, & Satisfaction) designed Kruter, Sullivan, Siosteen(1994) translated by Kang, Hyun Sook, Koh, Jung Eun, Suh, Yeon Ok, Yee, Oon Hee(1999). The collected data were analyzed SPSS program. The Data were analyzed descriptive statistics and $X^2$ test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, t-test, F-test (ANOVA), Duncan's multiple comparison test. The result were as follows. 1. The first hypothesis was accepted : The group educated about sexual rehabilitation has more sexual knowledge than those of the uneducated group(t = 7.412, p = .001). 2. The second hypothesis was accepted : The group educated about the sexual rehabilitation has more adjustment of sexual than those of the uneducated group(t = 5.524, p= .001). 3. The third hypothesis was accepted: The higher sexual knowledge state, the higher sexual adjustment(r= .449, p= .003). According to results, sexual rehabilitation education helps Spinal cord Injury Clients to gain knowledge and adjustment of sexual.

According to increasing number of injury claims, the challenge is reducing investigation of cases of injuries by selecting them more delicately, while also increasing the redemption rates and the amount of restitution. In this regards, we developed the fraud detection model for injury claims of self-employed insured by using decision tree after collecting medical claim data from 2006 to 2011 of the National Health Insurance in Korea. As a result of this model, subject types were classified into 18 types. If applying these types to the actual survey compared with if not applying, the redumption collecting rate will be increasing by 12.8%. Also, the effectiveness of this model will be maximize when the number of claims handlers considering their survey volume and management plans are examined thoroughly.
Objectives : To elucidate the transient effects on the risk of occupational injuries as acute events and establish so alternative proposal. Methods : The study population comprised a total of 302 workers randomly selected from applications for occupational injury compensation reported to the Inchon local labor office from January 1. 1999 to December 31. A case-crossover design, where each case serves its own control, was applied to this study. Through a telephone interview, workers provided useful data concerning five job related stressful events such as company transfer, work load change, overtime work, exchange duty, and work-part transfer. They were asked whether there were stressful events within a week of the occurrence of injury and the degree of stress. Exposure status from one year prior was used as control information. In the end, the data provided by 158 of selected persons was used for the analysis based on the quality of the data provided by the participants. A conditional logistic regression was used to discover the transient effects on the risk of occupational injuries as acute events. Results : The effects a company transfer and work load change on occupational injury was statistically significant on the risk of occupational Injuries as an acute event(RR=5.5, 95% CI=2.501-12.428; RR=3.1, 95% CI=1.963-5.017, respectively). Other stressful events were found to elevate the risk factor for the occurrence of occupational jujury, but were not significant. Conclusions : Our results suggested that transient stressful events elevated the risk factor for the occurrence of occupational injury.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to report the incidence of falls in hospitals and analyze the risk factors for falls. Methods: This study used data on 1,216 patients who experienced falls from 2015 to 2017 during their hospitalization. The data was collected from the falls incident reports and patient' electronic medical record of hospital. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics using Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test and multiple Poisson regression analysis with the SAS 9.4 Results: The incidence of falls was 1.38 per 1,000 patients days (2015), 1.81 per 1,000patients days (2016) and 1.99 per 1,000patients days (2017). The incidence of injury caused by falls (level III~V) was 0.05 per 1,000patients days (2015), 0.04 per 1,000patients days (2016) and 0.06 per 1,000patients days (2017). The largest number of falls occurred during night shift (42.5%), specifically in the patients' room (70.8%), and medical unit (66.0%). Average age of fallers was 69.1 years and 61.7% of them were older than 71 years. CCI and the patient's department have statistically significant differences in injury or injury levels from falls, but the integrated nursing care services had no significant difference in injury or injury levels from falls. Conclusion: The result of this study can be used as a reference for establishing a fall prevention strategy for hospitalized patients by presenting index values such as the fall rate.
Purpose: There have been increasing concerns about serious traffic accidents on highways. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors affecting traffic accidents on highways and the severity of the resulting injuries. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at a regional trauma center. We reviewed 594 patients who had been in 114 traffic accidents on highways from January 2018 to June 2020. We collected demographic data, clinical data, accident-related factors, and meteorological data (weather and temperature). Results: Environmental risk factors were found to be significantly associated with the incidence of traffic accidents on highways. Injury severity and the death rate were higher in sedans than in any other type of vehicle. Tunnels were the most common location of accidents, accounting for 47 accidents (41.2%) and 269 injured patients (45.3%). The injury severity of individuals riding in the driver's seat (front seat) was high, regardless of vehicle type. Three meteorological risk factors were found to be significantly associated with traffic accidents: rainy roads (odds ratio [OR] 2.08; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.84-3.29; p=0.01), icy or snowy roads (OR 5.12; 95% CI 2.88-7.33; p<0.01), and foggy conditions (OR 2.94; 95% CI 2.15-4.03; p<0.05). Conclusions: The injury severity of patients was affected by seat position and type of vehicle, and the frequency of accident was affected by the location. The incidence of traffic accidents was strongly influenced by meteorological conditions (rain, snow/ice, and fog).

Background Acute facial nerve iatrogenic or traumatic injury warrants rapid management with the goal of reestablishing nerve continuity within 72 hours. However, reconstructive efforts should be performed up to 12 months from the time of injury since facial musculature may still be viable and thus facial tone and function may be salvaged. Methods Data of all patients who underwent facial nerve repair following iatrogenic or traumatic injury were retrospectively collected and assessed. Paralysis etiology, demographics, operative data, postoperative course, and outcome were examined. Results Twenty patients underwent facial nerve repair during the years 2004 to 2019. Data were available for 16 of them. Iatrogenic injury was the common category (n = 13, 81%) with parotidectomy due to primary parotid gland malignancy being the common surgery (n = 7, 44%). Nerve repair was most commonly performed during the first 72 hours of injury (n = 12, 75%) and most of the patients underwent nerve graft repair (n = 15, 94%). Outcome was available for 12 patients, all of which remained with some degree of facial paresis. Six patients suffered from complete facial paralysis (50%) and three underwent secondary facial reanimation (25%). There were no major operative or postoperative complications. Conclusion Iatrogenic and traumatic facial nerve injuries are common etiologies of acquired facial paralysis. In such cases, immediate repair should be performed. For patients presenting with facial paralysis following previous surgery or trauma, nerve repair should be considered up to at least 6 months of injury. Longstanding paralysis is best treated with standard facial reanimation procedures.
