  • In this study, we introduce how to apply "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to injection molding system. We report the current state of IT technology applied to produce their products in micro lens injection molding system. And we explain key technology of ICT for injection molding system and how to implement. Especially, we also mention about an embedded controller, also called as "M2M device". It provides programmable intelligent functions, communication, various interfaces, amplifier functions and mobile device connection to our application.

  • In recent, injection molding process for features in sub-micron scale is under active development as patterning nano-scale features, which can provide the master or stamp for molding, and becomes available around the world. Injection molding has been one of the most efficient processes for mass production of the plastic product, and this process is already applied to nano-technology products successfully such as optical storage media like DVD or BD which is a large area plastic thin substrate with nano-scale features on its surface. Bio chip for like DNA sequencing may be another application of this plastic substrate. The DNA can be sequenced using order of 100 nm pore structure when making the DNA flow through the pore structure. Agarose gel and silicon based chip have been used to sequence the DNA, but injection molded plastic chip may have benefit in terms of cost. This plastic DNA sequencing chip has plenty of pillars in order of 100 nm in diameter on the substrate. When the usual features in case of DVD or BD have very low aspect ratio, even less than 0.5, but the DNA chip will have relatively high aspect ratio of about 2. It is not easy to injection mold the large area thin substrate with sub-micron features on its surface due to the characteristics of the molding process and it becomes much more difficult when the aspect ratio of the features becomes high. We investigated the effect of the molding parameters for injection molding with high aspect ratio nano-scale features and injection molded some plastic DNA sequencing chips.   • We acquired data of injection molding machine in operation and stored the data in database. We acquired the data of injection molding machine for fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) continuously and estimated the fault results with a fuzzy algorithm. Many of FDD are applied to a huge system, nuclear power plant and a computer numerical control(CNC) machine for processing machinery. But, the research of FDD is rare in injection molding machine compare with computer numerical control machine. We appraise the accuracy of the FDD and the limit of the application to the injection molding machine. We construct the fault detection and diagnosis system based on fuzzy algorithm in the injection molding machine. Data of operating injection molding machine are acquired in order to improve the reliability of detection and diagnosis.

  • The waste gate valve (WGV) for gasoline vehicles operate in a harsh high-temperature environment. Hence, WGVs are typically made of Inconel 713C, which is a type of Ni-based superalloy. Recently, the metal injection molding (MIM) process has attracted considerable attention for parts used under high-temperature conditions. In this study, an MIM analysis for the head and other parts of the WGV is conducted using a commercial CAE program Moldflow. Further, optimal manufacturing conditions are determined by analyzing flow characteristics at various injection times and locations. Moreover, to improve the accuracy of the analysis results, we compare the actual temperature of the mold during injection processing with that observed through the analysis. As the results, metal injection patterns of analysis are well in accord with these of short shot test. And the temperature variations of analysis is also very similar with those of feedstock when metal injection molding.

Metal Injection Molding Analysis for Developing Embroidering Machine Rotary Hooks (자수기용 로터리 훅 개발을 위한 금속분말 사출성형해석)

  • Among the components of rotary hooks, a core component of an embroidery sewing system, a study was conducted to apply metal injection molding to the manufacture of a hook body and a housing that was very difficult to mechanical working. The correlation of feedstock, a mixture of binder and SCM 415 metal powder, and properties of the pressure-volume-temperature interrelationship, viscosity, specific heat, and thermal conductivity were measured. Injection molds for the hook body and the housing were developed through injection molding analysis using these properties and conducted injection tests. Optimal injection gate position and number, injection pressure, and injection time were obtained through a comparison of analysis results with the experiment results.

Study of Injection Molding Process of Shift Lever Using Injection Molding Analysis (사출성형해석을 통한 자동차 레버쉬프트의 사출공정에 관한 연구)

  • The production processes were reviewed through the injection analysis of the shift lever as a core component of an auto lever installed in the automatic transmission of cars. The injection analysis was carried out for the shift lever and rod among the components in a shift lever module. The shift lever and rod are designed for injection molding with the insertion of a tube, a pin cable plate, and a steel rod for securing the strength of the product. The charging time, failure of injection molding, weld line, air trap, and deformation were reviewed according to this insert. Analyses on various gate positions were carried out for reviewing the cultivation and deformation of fiber around major components, such as the generation section of manipulation feeling and assembly section, so that optimal gate conditions might be reviewed and reflected in the mold design. Finally, we plan to compare the analysis results with the production of trial products.

A study on shrinkage deformation according to injection molding conditions of pipe (annular) shaped products (파이프(Annular) 형상 제품의 사출성형 조건에 따른 수축 변형에 관한 연구)

  • The 3 dimensional Pipe (Annular) Shaped Products was selected as a test sample, then a attribute of a molding shrinkage according to the parameters of a injection process was examined with PC, which is the typical engineering plastic. Both the inside and the outside diameter of the Pipe (Annular) sample were shrank into the inner direction of the part. And then the comparative analysis of the samples proved that a increasing thickness led a bigger shrinkage rate in the equal outside diametric samples, and a decreasing outside diameter caused a bigger shrinkage rate in the same thickness samples. The comparative study of the cushion volume of a injection machine showed that the molding shrinkage was most affected by the pressure strength among the resin temperature, the maintenance pressure strength and the maintenance pressure duration time. Each of the shrinkage rates according to the measuring direction and the gate position was different. As a result, the injection molded sample had not a typical circular shape.
