직접분사식 커먼레일 단기통 디젤엔진에서 EGR율에 따른 연소 및 배기특성 (Effect of EGR Rate on Combustion and Emission Characteristics in a Single-cylinder Direct Injection Diesel Engine with Common-rail)

  • The purpose of this work is an experimental investigation of combustion and emission characteristics in DI diesel engine applied high EGR rate as a method of low-temperature combustion. In order to analyze the effect of EGR rate variation, a single-cylinder DI diesel engine was operated under various EGR rate conditions. In addition, injection timing was variously controlled to investigate the effect of injection timing in DI diesel engine using the cooled-EGR system. The NOx emissions were decreased in accordance with the increase of EGR rate. On the contrary, soot emissions were generally increased under applied EGR conditions. However, soot emissions were decreased in a few injection timings under high EGR rate conditions. The EGR results show that the ignition delay were increased by decreased oxygen concentrations in combustion chamber under the high EGR rate.

마이크로컴퓨터를 이용한 가솔린 기관용 전자제어장치의 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of an Electronic Control Unit for a Gasoline Engine using Microcomputer)

  • An ECU(Electronic Control Unit) with 16 bit microcomputer has been developed. This system includes hardware and software for more precise control on fuel injection, ignition timing, and idle speed. This control system employs an air flow sensor of the hot wire type, a direct ignition system, an idle speed control system using a solenoid valve, and a crank angle sensor. Especially, the crank angle sensor provides two separate signals: One is the position signal(POS) which indicates 180 degree pulses per revolution, and the other is the reference signla(REF) that represents each cylinder individually. The conventional engine control system requires at least two engine revolutions in order to identify the cylinder number. However, the developed engine control system can recognize the cylinder number within a quarter of an engine revolution. Therfore, the developed engine control system has been able to control fuel injection and ignition timing more quickly and accurately, Furthermore, the number of misfire reduces during the cold start.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of water injection on combustion characteristics of gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine with turbo-charger under low-load operating condition. The test engine used in this study has four-cylinder and 10.2 of compression ratio. In order to study the effect of water injection ratio on combustion characteristics, the water was injected into the intake port from 10% to 50%, based on fuel injection quantity. From the experiment, it revealed that the water injection induced the improvement of fuel economy because of the advance of spark-timing by the reduction of in-cylinder temperature. In addition, the water injection caused the prolong of extension of the ignition delay and slight increase of burn duration.

  • 1.7L 커먼 레일 직접 연료분사 디젤엔진과 초저유황 스웨덴 디젤 연료를 이용하여 연료분사시기 8.5CA BTDC~0.5CA BTDC 와 배기가스 재순환률 37%, 43%, 48% 영역에서 실험을 수행하였다. 각각의 배기가스 재순환률에 대하여 연료분사시기가 지각됨에 따라 매연과 질소산화물이 동시에 저감되나 탄화수소와 일산화탄소는 증가하는 저온 디젤 연소영역에 있음을 확인하였다. 탄화수소를 가스크로마토그래프와 불꽃 이온 검출기를 사용하여 종 분석을 수행하였으며, 연료분사시기가 지각될수록, 그리고 배기가스 재순환률이 증가할수록 Partially burned HC, 알켄의 비율이 증가하였다. Partially burned HC 중에서 에텐이, 그리고 Unburned HC 중에서 노말 운데케인이 가장 많이 배출되었다. 이 두 개의 탄화수소 종은 촉매 연구에 사용되는 벤치 플로우리액터 시험에서 대표적인 탄화수소 종으로 사용할 수 있다.

  • 본 연구에서는, 주분무의 착화지연기간에 미치는 보조연료 분사시기의 영향 및 공기유동을 연소장 내에 도입시켜 분무와 공기의 혼합을 적극적으로 촉진시킴에 따라 그 후의 연소과정이 어떤 영향을 받는가에 대해서 검토했다.또 소형고속 디이 젤기관에서는 분무의 연소기간을 최대한 단축 시키지 않으면 안되므로, 보조연료 분사 에 의해 그 단축목적이 어느 정도 달성될 수 있는 가능성을 제2보에서 시사한 바 있으 나 본 연구에서 더욱 상세히 검토했다.

  • 최근 강화되는 연료소비율과 배기 규제에 대응하기 위해 자동차용 엔진에 다양한 신기술들이 적용되고 있다. 직접분사식 희박연소 엔진은 안정적인 성층혼합기 연소를 통해 연료소비율 및 배출가스 개선이 가능하지만 과잉공기 조건에서 상대적으로 높은 수준은 질소산화물의 배출은 해결되어야 할 과제이다. 본 연구에서는 직접분사식 희박연소 LPG 엔진에서 가변 밸브 기구를 이용한 흡기 및 배기밸브 시기의 변경이 엔진의 성능 및 배출가스에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 하였다. 스로틀링을 하지 않은 부분부하 운전 조건에서 흡기밸브 열림 시기의 진각은 공기과잉률의 증가에 의한 질소산화물 배출 증가에 원인으로 작용하였다. 배기밸브 열림 시기를 진각할 경우 팽창일 감소와 펌핑손실 증가에 의해 연료 소비율이 악화되었다.

가솔린기관의 시동시 기관 제어변수가 배기가스온도 및 시동성에 미치는 영향에 관한 실험적 연구 (Effects of Engine Control Variables on Exhaust Gas Temperature and Stability during Cranking Operation of an SI Engine)

  • Raising exhaust gas temperature during cold-start period is very crucial to improve emission performance of SI engines because it enhances the performance of catalyst in the early stage of engine start. In this study, control variables such as ignition timing, idle speed actuator(ISA) opening and fuel injection duration were extensively investigated to analyze variations in exhaust gas temperature and engine stability during cranking period. Experimental results showed that spark timing affected engine stability and exhaust gas temperature but the effects were small. On the other hand, shortened injection duration and increased ISA opening led to a significant increase in exhaust gas temperature. Under such conditions, increase in cranking time was also observed, showing that it becomes harder to start the engine. Based on these observations, a pseudo fuel-air ratio, defined as a ratio of fuel injection time to degree of ISA opening, was introduced to analyze the experimental results. In general, decrease in pseudo fuel-air ratio raised exhaust gas temperature with the cost of stable and fast cranking. On the contrary, an optimal range of the pseudo fuel-air ratio was found to be between 0.3 to 0.5 where higher exhaust gas temperatures can be obtained without sacrificing the engine stability.

대형 액상분사식 LPG 엔진의 희박연소특성에 관한 연구 (Lean Burn Characteristics in a Heavy Duty Liquid Phase LPG Injection SI Engine)

  • Fuel distribution, combustion, and flame propagation characteristics of heavy duty engine with the liquid phase LPG injection(LPLI) were studied in a single cylinder engine. Optically accessible single cylinder engine and laser diagnostics system were built for quantifying fuel concentration by acetone PLIF(planar laser induced fluorescence) measurements. In case of Otto cycle engine with large bore size, the engine knock and thermal stress of exhaust manifold are so critical that lean burn operation is needed to reduce the problems. It is generally known that fuel stratification is one of the key technologies to extend the lean misfire limit. The formation of rich mixture in the spark plug vicinity was achieved by open valve injection. With higher swirl strength(Rs=3.4) and open valve injection, the cloud of fuel followed the flow direction and the radial air/fuel mixing was limited by strong swirl flow. It was expected that axial stratification was maintained with open-valve injection if the radial component of the swirling motion was stronger than the axial components. The axial fuel stratification and concentration were sensitive to fuel injection timing in case of Rs=3.4 while those were relatively independent of the injection timing in case of Rs2.3. Thus, strong swirl flow could promote desirable axial fuel stratification and, in result, may make flame propagation stable in the early stage of combustion.

Analysis of Compression Ignition Combustion in a Schnurle-Type Gasoline Engine - Comparison of performance between direct injection and port injection systems -

  • A two-stroke Schnurle-type gasoline engine was modified to enable compression-ignition in both the port fuel injection and the in-cylinder direct injection. Using the engine, examinations of compression-ignition operation and engine performance tests were carried out. The amount of the residual gas and the in-cylinder mixture conditions were controlled by varying the valve angle rate of the exhaust valve (VAR) and the injection timing for direct injection conditions. It was found that the direct injection system is superior to the port injection system in terms of exhaust gas emissions and thermal efficiency, and that almost the same operational region of compression-ignition at medium speeds and loads was attained. Some interesting combustion characteristics, such as a shorter combustion period in higher engine speed conditions, and factors for the onset of compression-ignition were also examined.

  • The characteristics of engine performance with fuel injection system in D.I. diesel engine were studied in this paper A fuel injection system has an important role in the performance and emission gas in a diesel engine. In this paper, an experimental study has been performed to verify the effect of the performance and the emission gas with the factors such as diameters of an injection nozz1e hole, diameters of an injection pipe and injection timing in the fuel injection system. The authors have obtained the results that optimizing the factors of fuel injection system is siginificant to enhance the performance of the engine system and consumption ratio of fuel, smoke, and NOx.
