The measurement of breakup length of viscous liquid jet in stagnant air was conducted by a 3CCD digital video camera. The nozzle diameters of 4, 6, 8mm with L/d=50 were selected and the dynamic viscosity of viscous liquid made of glycerine and water was in the range of $1.061\times10^{-6}m^2/s$ to $4.935\times10^{-5}m^2/s$. The critical velocity is decreased and the breakup length is increased with the increase of nozzle diameter at the same dynamic viscosity of liquid. At the same nozzle diameter, the breakup length and the critical velocity are both increased with the increase of dynamic viscosity of liquid. It is found in the theoretical analysis that the initial disturbance level is the main cause of occurrance of critical Reynolds number in the stability curve. The comparison of experimental critical Reynolds number and the empirical correlation by Tanasawa and Toyota reveals the relatively good agreement.

To lessen the initial level of microorganism in kimchi, the preparation method of seasoning mixture was modified and electrolyzed acid-water was substitute for washing water and brine water. Changes in the microbial counts of the red pepper powder-garlic mixture prepared with red pepper powder, garlic and 4.8% (w/w) water (tap water and electrolyzed acid-water) of manufactured kimchi showed that coliform count and E. coli count were reduced to 93% and 98%, of the initial level in the tap water added red pepper powder-garlic mixture and 97% and 99% in the electrolzed acid-water added mixture after 6 hours of mix. After 24 hours of mix, no E. coli was recovered in borth mixtures. Microbial levels were revealed as $2.4{\times}10^5\;CFU/g$ for total count, $2.3{\times}10^5\;CFU/g$ for Lactobacillus count. $1.0{\times}10^2{\;}CFU/g$ of coliform count and $10^1\;CFU/g$ of E. coli count in the seasoning mixture prepared by the general method, and $4.2{\times}10^5\;CFU/g$ of total count, $4.0{\times}10^5CFU/g$ of Lactobacillus count, $1.0{\times}10^3\;CFU/g$ of coliorm count and $4.0{\times}10^2\;CFU/g$ of E. coli count in the mixture propared by the modified method. During fermentation at $10^{\circ}C$, the levels of total and Lactobacillus counts in kimchi prepared by the modified method were significantly lower than those of kimchi were recovered in kimchi prepared by the modified method, whereas there were at the level of $10^1\;CFU/g$ in kimchi prepared by the general method. The pH and acidity of kimchi prepared by the modified method were 4.66 and 0.54%, respectively, whereas those in kimchi prepared b the general method were 4.51 and 0.70%, respectively. But after 14 days of fermentation significant differences were not observed in the changes of microbial, pH and acidity for both kimchi.

Selecting Daechung Dam as a sample study site, this study simulates virtual water quality incident which can be occurred using EFDC maintained by USEPA. In order to predict the behavior and diffusion of leaked conservative pollutant within dam under the worst condition, the hydrological data and information from 2008 were used. EFDC was successfully calibrated for observed water level obtained from the above sources. From the results of simulations, even though the concentrations (500 ppm, 1,000 ppm and 10,000 ppm) of leaked pollutant were different with each other at the same sources, the travel time of each peak concentration appeared similar. Also, changing the leak source point from dam gate(0 km) to 7 km, it was found that as leak source point was nearer to the dam gate, the travel time of each peak concentration showed up sooner. It was simulated to take 1 day to 15 days for initial appearance of the leaked pollutant according to the leaked points, and 3 days to 25 days for the reach of the peak concentration, respectively.

Flood damage can cause floods or tsunamis, which can result in enormous loss of life and property. In this regard, damage can be reduced by making a quick evacuation decision through flood prediction, and many studies are underway in this field to predict floods using time series data. In this paper, we propose a CNN-based time series prediction model. A CNN-based water level prediction model was implemented using the river level and precipitation, and the performance was confirmed by comparing it with the LSTM and GRU models, which are often used for time series prediction. In addition, by checking the performance difference according to the size of the input data, it was possible to find the points to be supplemented, and it was confirmed that better performance than LSTM and GRU could be obtained. Through this, it is thought that it can be utilized as an initial study for flood prediction.

Open-coast storm surge computations are of value in planning and constructing engineering works, especially in coastal regions. Prediction of typhoon surge elevations is based primarily on the use of a numerical model in this study, since it is difficult to study these events in real time or with use of physical models. A simple quasi-two dimensional numerical model for storm surge is considered. In order to understand the model's underlying assumptions, range of validity, and application, we discussed several aspects of typhoons and the physical factors governing storm generation processes. We also followed the basic governing equation, together with the assumption generally taken in their development, to see the principle characteristics of the model from a physical as well as a mathematical point of view. The equations consistent with the model described here are reduced forms of the basic equations and their effects on the resulting numerical scheme are discussed. Finally we applied the model discussed above to a storm surge problem at Masan Bay, the south coast of Korea Effects of astronomical tide, initial water level, and atmospheric pressure setup are considered. We then analyzed the flood at the coastal city and proposed a reasonable way of flood control.
In water treatment process using microfiltration membranes, manganese is a substance that causes inorganic membrane fouling. As a result of analysis on the operation data taken from I WTP(Water Treatment Plant), it was confirmed that the increase of TMP was very severe during the period of manganese inflow. The membrane fouling fastened the increase of TMP and shortened the service time of filtration or the cleaning cycle. The TMP of the membrane increased to the maximum of $2.13kgf/cm^2$, but it was recovered to the initial level ($0.17kgf/cm^2$) by the 1st acid cleaning step. It was obvious that the main membrane fouling contaminants are due to inorganic substances. As a result of the analysis on the chemical waste, the concentrations of aluminum(146-164 mg/L) and manganese(110-126 mg/L) were very high. It is considered that aluminum was due to the residual unreacted during coagulation step as a pretreatment process. And manganese is thought to be due to the adsorption on the membrane surface as an adsorbate in feed water component during filtration step. For the efficient maintenance of the membrane filtration facilities, optimization of chemical concentration and CIP conditions is very important when finding the abnormal level of influent including foulants such as manganese.
In coastal areas that are affected by continuous, seasonal or occasional pollution sources, bivalves accumulate biological contaminants such as pathogenic bacteria. We investigated the effect of natural seawater relaying and electrolyzed seawater depuration on the bacteriological quality of artificially contaminated oysters Crassostrea gigas and short-necked clams Ruditapes philippinarum to suggest an alternative method of shellfish sanitation control. When artificially contaminated oysters and short-necked clams (fecal coliform level 1,700 MPN/100 g) were relayed into a sea area of safe bacteriological water quality, the fecal coliform level dropped to below 110 MPN/100 g after 1 day. The bacteriological quality of oysters and short-necked clams that are contaminated at a fecal coliform level of 1,700 MPN/100 g could be improved, and become appropriate for raw consumption by a single day relay under proper environmental conditions. When artificially contaminated oysters (fecal coliform level 330 MPN/100 g) were depurated with electrolyzed seawater, 94% of fecal coliform was eliminated after 12 h and fecal coliform was undetectable after 24 h. After 24 h depuration with electrolyzed seawater, the fecal coliform level of short-necked clams with initial fecal coliform of 2,400 MPN/100 g was below 20 MPN/100 g. However, the fecal coliform level of short-necked clams with initial fecal coliform of 17,000 MPN/100 g was relatively high, at 790 MPN/100 g, even after 24 h of depuration with electrolyzed seawater, because of the repeated cycle of excretion and accumulation of fecal coliform in shellfish tissue under the closed depuration environment. Such natural seawater relaying and electrolyzed seawater depuration can be restrictively applied to improve or secure the bacteriological quality of oysters and short-necked clams in accordance with safety levels for bivalves for raw consumption.

This study was to investigate characteristics for the pressure wave propagation and the maximum pressure near a rapid closure valve which was installed the end of multi piping network. The multi piping network consists of one inlet and three outlet with straight pipes. The diameter of the pipes including the valve was 100 mm, 80 mm, 80 mm respectively. The valve was rapidly closed with the instantaneous time which was 0.023s in the level for the water hammer. For the simulation, the influence of the pipe thickness and deformation due to pressure-wave-propagation was not considered. CFD was conducted under the following condition : the initial pressure was 1bar in the inlet and the mass flow rate was 7.83 kg/s in the outlet(the velocity in the pipe with 100 mm diameter was 1 m/s). As the valve have conditions that were status with and without fluid flow in the pipe after valve closing, the maximum pressure change and the frequency analysis were examined. As the results, the case that was status with fluid flow appeared the higher maximum pressure than another's, the maximum frequency band was about 10 ~ 11 Hz.
A computational study of the reactions between Zn-containing species, the products of the thermal decomposition of diethylzinc (DEZn) and water was investigated. The Zn-containing species – $C_2H_5)_2,\;HZnC_2H_5,\;and\;(ZnC_2H_5)_2$ – were assumed to react with water during ZnO metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the level of B3LYP/6-311G(d) were employed for the geometry optimization and thermodynamic property evaluation. As a result dihydroxozinc, $Zn(OH)_2$, was the most probable reaction product common for all three Zn-containing species. A further clustering of $Zn(OH)_2$ was investigated to understand the initial stage of ZnO film deposition. In experiments, the reactions of DEZn and water were examined by in-situ Raman scattering in a specially designed MOCVD reactor. Although direct evidence of $Zn(OH)_2$ was not observed, some relevant reaction intermediates were successfully detected to support the validity of the gas phase reaction pathways proposed in the computational study.
Fifteen lightweight concrete mixes were tested to evaluate the effect of maximum size of coarse aggregate and the replacement level of natural sand on the various properties of fresh lightweight concrete. The different properties, such as water absorption against the elapsed time, pore size distribution and micro-structure of lightweight aggregates used, influencing on the workability of fresh concrete were also measured. Test results showed that the initial slump of lightweight concrete decreased with the increase of the replacement level of natural sand. The slump of all-lightweight concrete sharply decreased by around 80% of the initial slump after 30~60 minutes. The air content and bleeding rate of lightweight concrete were significantly affected by the replacement level of natural sand as well as the maximum size of coarse aggregates. Empirical equations recommended in ACI 211 and Korea concrete standard specifications underestimated the air content of the lightweight concrete, indicating that the underestimation increases with the decrease of the replacement level of natural sand. In addition, equations to predict the air content and bleeding rate of lightweight concrete were proposed based on the test results.
