물분무를 이용한 화재제어에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of Fire Suppression Using a Water Mist in a Compartment)

  • The present study investigates the fire suppression characteristics using a water mist fire suppression system. The fire extinguishing times are measured for various fire sources, fuel types, and different total flooding rates of water mist. Pool fire with hydrocabon fuel is successfully extinguished within a minute under the operating conditions of the water mist system. Two different regimes of the smoke layer cooling are observed, such as rapid and slow cooling processes. The regimes are divided by threshold time which is calculated with auto-correlation function. The threshold time for the initial cooling decreases with increasing water flow-rates and fire sources. These initial cooling effects play an important role in preventing the occurance of flashover fire by the initial fire suppression.

  • 본 연구의 최종 목적은 자율형 초동진압 소화체계의 성능평가 기준(안) 제시에 있다. 본 연구에서는 현재 개발단계에 있는 자율형 초동진압 소화제계의 성능기준 제시를 위해 현재 국내 건축물에 적용되는 소방설비의 법적 성능기준 및 국외 선행연구를 기반으로 유사 제품의 성능기준을 비교분석하였다. 또한 이를 기반으로 자율형 초동진압용 소화체계에 요구되는 최소한의 성능기준을 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 기반으로 자율형 초동진압용 소화체계의 성능평가를 수행 후 현장적용 시 화재에 보다 신속한 대응이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

  • The present study investigates the fire suppression characteristics using a water mist fire suppression system. Numerical simulations of fire suppression with water mist are performed with considering the interaction of fire plume and water droplet, droplet evaporation, and combustion of pool fire. The predicted temperature fields of smoke layer are compared with that of measured data. Numerical results agree with the experimental results within 5$^{\circ}C$ in the case without water mist In the case of fire suppression with water mist, numerical results dose not predict well lot temperature field in the gradual cooling region after water mist injection. But the predicted results of initial fire suppression are in good agreement with that of measured data. The reason of the discrepancy between predicted and measured data is due to the variation of turning rate during the injection of water mist. The effect of burning rate on the fire suppression is left as future study.

  • The present study investigates the fire suppression characteristics using a water mist fire suppression system. In the case of fire suppression with water mist, numerical results do not predict well for temperature field in the gradual cooling region after water mist injection. But the predicted results of initial fire suppression are in good agreement with those of measured data. The reason for the discrepancy between predicted and measured data is due to the poor combustion modeling during the injection of water mist. More elaborate models for numerical simulation are required for better predictions of the fire suppression characteristics using water mist.

  • In the present research, the exclusive analysis system based on the CFD method were suggested to predict the fire-suppression performance of water mist fire-suppression equipments for design applications. The computing scope is ranged from starting pump to fire-suppression equipments, composed of three parts that calculation of flow rate and pressure distribution at each nozzle, examining of spray performance and predicting of fire-suppression performance in the fire space. Application were done to the fire-suppression system for electric power generation plants. The results were analyzed by comparison between numerical results and initial design conditions in terms of thermal and fluid mechanics.

Physiological Factors Depressing Feed Intake and Saliva Secretion in Goats Fed on Dry Forage

  • Ruminants eating dry forage secrete large volumes of saliva which results in decreased plasma volume (hypovolemia) and the loss of $NaHCO_3$ from the blood. The present research investigated whether or not hypovolemia and the loss of $NaHCO_3$ from the blood in goats brought about by dry forage feeding actually depresses feed intake and saliva secretion, respectively. The present experiment consisted of three treatments (NI, ASI, MI). In the control treatment (NI), a solution was not infused. In the ASI treatment, i.v. infusion of artificial parotid saliva was initiated 1 h before feeding and continued for the entire 2 h feeding period. In the MI treatment, iso-osmotic mannitol solution was infused. The NI treatment showed that hematocrit and plasma total protein concentration were increased due to decreased circulating plasma volume brought about by feeding. In the ASI treatment, the fluid and $NaHCO_3$ that were lost from the blood because of a feeding-induced acceleration of saliva secretion was replenished with an intravenous infusion of artificial parotid saliva. This replenishment lessened the levels of suppression on both feeding and parotid saliva secretion. When only the lost fluid was replenished with an intravenous infusion of iso-osmotic mannitol solution in the MI treatment, the degree of feeding suppression was lessened but the level of saliva secretion suppression was not affected. These results indicate that the marked suppression of feed intake during the initial stages of dry forage feeding was caused by a feeding-induced hypovolemia while the suppression of saliva secretion was brought about by the loss of $NaHCO_3$ from the blood due to increased saliva secretion during the initial stages of feeding.

금속폭발억제재가 충진된 LPG 탱크의 비정상 열전달 및 압력변화 해석 (Transient Analysis of Heat Transfer and Pressure Variation for LPG Tank with Metal Explosion Suppression Material)

  • As one of the explosion suppression methods of LPG tank exposed to hot environment by an accident or fire, some material which has large heat capacity and thermal conductivity can be installed inside the LPG tank in order to suppress the temperature increasement of tank wall. In the present study, theoretical model for the horizontally locating cylindrical LPG tank with and without the aluminum explosion suppression material has been developed to predict the characteristics of system. As a parametric study, effects of two major parameters, thickness of material filling and initial vapor volume fraction, on the time variation of wall temperature, temperature and pressure in tank are numerically examined. The results of present study show that the thickness of material filling does not give big differences in the suppression characteristics when the thickness of filling is larger than three inches. In case of material filling, there are marked suppression effects to the increase-ment of wall temperature, average vapor temperature and pressure in tank compared with the case of no filling.

미세물분무 작동에 대한 FDS 예측 성능 평가 (Estimation of FDS Prediction Performance on the Operation of Water-Mist)

  • 본 논문은 미세물분무 작동에 따른 화재 거동 및 제압 특성을 예측하는 데 있어서 FDS(Fire Dynamic Simulator)의 예측 성능을 평가하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 미세물분무의 초기액적분포 입력을 위해 Rosin-Rammler /log-normal 분포를 사용하였으며 모델 상수의 영향을 살펴보았다. 또한 미세물분무의 분사압력에 따른 화재 제압특성을 이전의 실험 결과와 비교함으로써 해석 모델을 검증하고 열유동 특성 및 가스 농도 변화를 분석하였다. 결과로부터 동일한 평균입경을 갖는 미세물분무도 액적분포의 특성에 따라 하부 위치에서의 액적 크기 및 속도에 큰 영향을 받고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 분무특성에 대한 실험결과와의 비교를 통해 적절한 초기입경분포를 결정하였으며 이를 이용하여 화재 시뮬레이션을 진행하였다. FDS 화재 시뮬레이션 결과는 온도의 변화 및 화재 제압 특성에 대하여 실험 결과와 좋은 일치를 보여주었다. 또한 미세물분무의 작동압력에 따른 열유동장 변화, 가스상 농도 변화의 예측에 있어 유용한 데이터를 제공할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Effect of Viability and Integrity of Bifidobacterium on Suppression of Allergy in Mice

  • The effects of the cell viability and integrity of Bifidobacterium on suppression of allergy were investigated. C3H/HeJ mice were sensitized on weeks 3, 4, 6, and 8 with ovalbumin and choleratoxin to induce an allergic reaction. Mice fed 0.2% of live, disrupted, or heat-killed Bifidobacterium bifidum BGN4 in the pellets of their diet for 8 weeks starting 2 weeks before initial sensitization differentially suppressed the allergy response in terms of levels of IgE and IgG1 in their sera, and symptoms on their tails. Viable Bifidobacterium was more effective than disrupted or heat-killed cells in suppressing the allergy. Growth inhibition, which occurred in the sham group at week 4, did not occur in the treated groups. These results show that Bifidobacterium has a suppressive effect on the allergic response of mice, and that the viability and integrity of the Bifidobacterium is required for effective suppression in our experimental model.

  • The effect of structured water by dissolution of xenon was examined from the view point of the suppression of both browning and respiratory metabolism of broccoli. The structured water is formed duet to hydrophobic interaction when xenon gas dissolves into water. NMR measurements were carried out to determine proton spin-spin relaxation time, T2, for water. There was a difference in proton T2 between distilled water and structured water. This can be interpreted as the change of water structure. Fro the broccoli cut in half stored for 16 days at 279K, the section color did not change appreciably for the sample whose water was structured by dissolution of xenon whose initial partial pressure was 0.39MPa. In contrast to this, the browning of section surface was observed for the sample stored under the condition of nitrogen gas at the same partial pressure as xenon and for the sample stored under atmospheric condition . These results led to the conclusion that the suppression of b owning by oxidation was due to structured water but not to applied pressure. Adding to this, the water structured by xenon has resulted in suppression of respiratory metabolism of broccoli.
