Physicochemical properties of waxy maize starch and oxidized waxy maize starch with sodium hypochlorite $(0{\sim}60\;mg\;CL_2/g\;starch,40^{\circ}C,\;pH\;10,\;3.0\;hr)$ were studied. As sodium hypochlorite concentration was increased, the content of crude lipid and crude protein of the oxidized starch were decreased. And crude protein content and whiteness was considered to show negative regression. However, the crude ash content of the oxidized starch increased significantly with oxidation and bore a positive regression to the chlorine content. There was a progressive increase in the carboxyl content with increasing oxidant level. After pasting in hot water and cooling, viscosity of the oxidized starches were drastically lower than that of native starch . As carboxyl contents of the oxidized starch increased, the solubility and swelling power was increased. When waxy maize starch treated with 0, 1.5, 3.0 and 6.0% sodium hypochlorite, temperature of initial gelatinization of oxidized starch was shown to 65, 65, 60 and $50^{\circ}C$, respectively. The oxidized waxy maize starches also form clearer pastes. Water binding capacity of the oxidized starch decreased as the degree of carboxyl group substitution increased. Waxy maize starch has polygonal and some round granules which range from about 3.7 to $20\;{\mu}m$ in diameter. Surface appearance of the waxy maize starch became rough when oxidized with sodium hypochlorite. When homogenate of the oxidized waxy maize starch solution and corn germ oil was stored under room temperature for 24 hours, the emulsion stability was considered to depend on starch concentration and degree of substitution.
The main objective of this study was to examine the removal of heavy metals from water by inflated vermiculites. The component of vermiculites was analyzed by XRF, and the concentration of metal ion was measured by ICP-AES. Serial batch kinetic tests and batch sorption tests were conducted to determine the removal characteristics for heavy metals in aqueous solutions. As a result, solution pH values of tests with the inflated vermiculites generally increased and then stabilized. Equilibrium pHs were generally established within 5 hrs. In addition, removal rates of inflated vermiculites were tested at the initial concentration of 3 mg/L. As a result, at equilibrium concentration, except for chromium (36.23%), Most of the heavy metals were effectively removed (96.08~98.54%). Finally, sorption data were correlated with both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The Qmax obtained from Langmuir isotherm were determined to Pb $725.4mg\;kg^{-1}$, Cd $568.8mg\;kg^{-1}$, Zn $540.2mg\;kg^{-1}$, Cu $457.2mg\;kg^{-1}$ Cr $0.9mg\;kg^{-1}$ respectively. The results of the study indicate that inflated vermiculites can be properly used as an adsorbent for various heavy metals because of its outstanding removal rate.
For analyzing the direct contamination pathway of radionudides in rice plants, a Solution containing $^{54}Mn,\;^{57}Co,\;^{85}Sr,\;^{103}Ru$ and $^{134}Cs$ was applied to the aboveground Parts of the between RI application and harvest. Its highest observed value was 0.94. The fractions of the initial plant deposition that remained in rice plants at harvest were in the range of $19{\sim}47%,\;17{\sim}43%,\;19{\sim}42%,\;23{\sim}61%$ and $11{\sim}69%$ for $^{54}Mn,\;^{57}Co,\;^{85}Sr,\;^{103}Ru$ and $^{134}Cs$, respectively, when no decay was assumed. The translocation factors of those radionuclides in hulled seeds were in the range of $6.9{\times}10^{-4}3.8{\times}10^{-2},\;3.6{\times}10^{-3}{\sim}1.6{\times}10^{-1},\;5.8{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}3.2{\sim}10^{-2},\;1.6{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}7.6{\times}10^{-3}$ and $3.2{\times}10^{-2}{\sim}2.0{\times}10^{-1}$, respertively, and were highest when they were applied at the stage of active seed development. It was indicated that the remaining percentage and translocation factor would not be greatly affected by the difference in the rain frequency if it is within a factor of 2. These results can be utilzed for predicting the radionuclide concentrations in rice seeds when an accidental deposition of those radionuclides occurs during the rice-growing season.
Two feeding experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of fermented cactus fruit (Opuntia ficusindica) fluid (FCFF) as a feed additive to a commercial diet on the growth of red sea bream, Pagrus major, and to determine an effective dose. FCFF was prepared by mixing crushed cactus fruit with a starch solution and commercially available microorganisms for 2 weeks at room temperature. Three triplicate groups of red sea bream had initial mean weights of 84.1 g (Exp-1) and 5.1 g (Exp-2) and were fed experimental diets containing 0%, 1%, and 5% FCFF for 2 months (Exp-1) and 0%, 0.2%, 0.5%, and 1% FCFF for 3 months (Exp-2), respectively. In experiment 1, the mean body weight of fish fed the diet containing 1% FCFF was significantly higher (P<0.05) than that of fish fed the diet without FCFF. The survival rate was highest in fish fed the diet containing 1% FCFF, although the difference was not statistically significant. The feed gain ratio (FGR), specific growth rate (SGR), and condition factor (CF) values of fish fed the diet containing 1% FCFF were higher than those of fish in the other dietary groups that received lower levels of FCFF. The daily feeding rate (DFR) of fish fed the diet containing 1% FCFF was slightly lower but not statistically different than the DFR values of fish in the other dietary groups. In experiment 2, the final mean body weight of fish fed the diet containing 1% FCFF was significantly (P<0.05) higher than the mean weight of fish in the control group. The FGR, SGR, and CF values of fish fed the diet containing 1% FCFF were better than the values from fish in the other dietary groups that received lower levels of FCFF, although the differences were not statistically significant. However, the DFR of fish fed the diet containing 1% FCFF was lower than those of fish in the other groups. These results suggest that FCFF could be used as a feed additive in commercial fish food and a preferable level of supplementation is at least 1.0% in fingerling and young red sea bream.

In order to know the electrochemical decomposition characteristics of ammonia to nitrogen, this work has studied several experimental variables on the electrolytic ammonia decomposition. The effects of pH and chloride ion at $IrO_2$, $RuO_2$, and Pt anodes on the electrolytic decomposition of ammonia were compared, and the existence of membrane equipped in the cell and the changes of the current density, the initial ammonia concentration and so on were investigated on the decomposition. The performances of the electrode were totally in order of $RuO_2{\approx}IrO_2>Pt$ in the both of acid and alkali conditions, and the ammonia decomposition was the highest at a current density of $80mA/cm^2$, over which it decreased, because the adsorption of ammonia on the electrode surface was hindered due to the evolution of oxygen. The ammonia decomposition increased with the concentration of chloride ion in the solution. However, the increase became much dull over 10 g/l of chloride ion. The $RuO_2$ electrode among the tested electrodes generated the most OH radicals which could oxidized the ammonium ion at pH 7.

This paper considers the cost minimization problem to satisfy QoS (Quality of Service) requirements for a given network, in particular when communication resources to each link can be additionally assigned. For the purpose of quantifying QoS requirements such as data transfer delay and packet loss, we introduce the cost function considering both the link utilization factor and the additionally assigned resource. To minimize this cost function, we firstly formulate a Basic Capacity Planning (BCP) problem, a special case of Network Utility Maximization (NUM). We show that the solution of this BCP problem cannot be optimal via a counter example. In this paper, we suggest the cross-layer design of both additionally assigned resource and routing path, whose initial values are set to the result of BCP problem. This cross-layer design is based on a heuristic approach which presents an effective way to plan how much communication resources should be added to support the QoS requirements in future. By simulation study, we investigate the convergence of the cost function in a more general network topology as well as in a given simple topology.

In order to enhance water permeability through the improvement of fouling phenomena and wettability of hydrophobic porous membranes, various adsorption materials, i.e., poly(vinyl amine), poly (styrene sulfonic acid), poly(vinyl sulfonic acid), and poly(acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) were adsorbed onto the surface of polyethylene (PE) porous membrane. The concentration of adsorption solutions, adsorption time, the sort of salts and their ionic strength were varied, and the pure water permeability of their resulting adsorbed membranes was measured. In general, water permeability increased with an initial increase in the concentration of adsorption solution, adsorption time, and ionic strength and then decreased with a further increase. The pure water permeability of 375 $L/m^2h$(LMH), 35% enhancement, was obtained at a condition of poly(vinyl sulfonic acid) 1000 ppm, $Mg(NO_3)_2$ ionic strength(IS) 0.1, and adsorption time 150 sec, while the 50% (411 LMH) and 35% (374 LMH) enhancements were obtained at conditions of poly(styrene sulfonic acid) 1000 ppm, adsorption time 60 sec, and NaCl IS 0.1 and 0.2, respectively.
1) The comparative studies of the quantitative measurement of growth characteristics and utilization of substrates by Euglena gracilis var. bacilla 10616 in the light and in darkness have been carried out. Eodogenous respiration, effect of respiratory inhibitors and responses to the added substrates for the exogenous respiration are also investigated. 2) All cultures are grown in the open air under the continuous illumination of fluorescent light of 3500 lux at room termperature, the growth rate of the culture in the basal medium added 0.5% lactate is found to be the highest. The growth rate decreases successively for the cultures of 0.5% sucinate, 0.5% Na-acetate, 0.5% malate, and control. There is no growth in the basal meidum added 0.5% butyrate and 0.5% hydroquinone. The similar results are obtained for the mentioned cultures in the darkness. However, the growth rate in basal medium added 0.5% glucose and 0.5% sucrose does seem to increase in the darkness unlike the illumination. 3) The endogenous rate of respiration for the organism cultured photosynthetically is about 12.94ul 02/mg/hr, in basal medium and the respiratory quotient is about 0.84. The rate is decreased by starvations to 6.5ul 02/mg/hr, about to a half, but the respiratory quotient does net change. 4) The oxygen consomption during initial 2 hours in suspending solution ranging from pH 4.5 to pH 9.3 is highest at pH 4.5 in which the algae had grown, at pH 5.5 and at pH 6.9. 5) Endogenous respiration of the cells is strongly inhibited by 0.1M of potassium cyanide, malomic acid, sodium fluoride and iodo-acetic acid. It is also strongly inhibited by 0.01M of potassium cyanide. 6) The respiratory response to added substrates for the exogenous respiration in the organism is coincided with the rate in the basal medium added the substrate in light and in darkness, whether the cells are fed or starved. 7) According to the results of this study, there seems to be the flexibility of the interconversion between photosynthesis and chemosynthesis, heterotropic mode of metabolism, in Euglena gracilis var. bacillaris, and that this organism utilizes the lactate most. It also may be suggested that the enayme systems linked in the each steps of Embden-Myerhof-Parnas path way and TCA cycle seem to exist in this organism.
In this study, Sulfonated PONF-g-styrene ion exchange fibers were synthesized by radiation induced graft copolymerization. And also, hybride ion exchange fibers, which was combined sulfonated PONF-g-styrene fibers and cationic ion exchange resin, were fabricated by hot melt adhesion method and then their adsorption properties were investigated. ion exchange capacity and water content of hybrid ion exchange fibers increased as compared with those of bead and ion exchange fiber. Their maximum values were 4.76 meq/g and 23.5%, respectively. Adsorption breakthrough time for mercury of hybrid ion exchange fiber was slower than those of bead resin and fibrous ion exchanger. It's value was 130 minutes. Their breakthrough time become short as increasing of pH, and concentration. The initial breakthrough time was observed before and after 10 minutes as increasing of concentration. The adsorption of hybrid ion exchange fibers for $Hg^{2+}\;Pb^{2+},\;Cd^{2+}$ among heavy metals in the mixed solution was observed before 20 min. And also, The adsorption for $Hg^{2+}$ among the heavy metals by hybride ion exchange fibers was observed.
Maximal productions of gellan by Sphingomnas paucibilis NK2000 from 20 g/l glucose and 10 g/l soybean pomace were 7.46 g/l in a flask and 7.35 g/l in a 7 l bioreactor, when the initial pH of media was 6.8. Maximal production of gellan in a 7 l bioreactor under pH control by sodium hydroxide was 8.42 g/l, whereas that under control by potassium phosphate was 8.50 g/l. The optimal concentration of potassium phosphate in a medium for production of gellan by S. paucibilis NK2000 was found to be 5.0 g/l. Maximal production of gellan in a medium containing 5.0 g/l potassium phosphate without pH control was 8.93 g/l in a 7 l bioreactor. In this study, a simple process without pH control was developed to enhance the production of gellan, with optimized concentration of potassium phosphate in the medium.
