Performance evaluation of smart prefabricated concrete elements

  • This paper deals with the development of an innovative distributed construction system based on smart prefabricated concrete elements for the real-time condition assessment of civil infrastructure. So far, two reduced-scale prototypes have been produced, each consisting of a $0.2{\times}0.3{\times}5.6$ m RC beam specifically designed for permanent instrumentation with 8 long-gauge Fiber Optic Sensors (FOS) at the lower edge. The sensing system is Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)-based and can measure finite displacements both static and dynamic with a sample frequency of 625 Hz per channel. The performance of the system underwent validation in the laboratory. The scope of the experiment was to correlate changes in the dynamic response of the beams with different damage scenarios, using a direct modal strain approach. Each specimen was dynamically characterized in the undamaged state and in various damage conditions, simulating different cracking levels and recurrent deterioration scenarios, including cover spalling and corrosion of the reinforcement. The location and the extent of damage are evaluated by calculating damage indices which take account of changes in frequency and in strain-mode-shapes. The outcomes of the experiment demonstrate how the damage distribution detected by the system is fully compatible with the damage extent appraised by inspection.

고랭지 임의·불법 경작지 복구 시나리오에 따른 토양유실 및 부유사량 저감 효과 분석 (Analysis of the Effects on Soil Erosion and Suspended Sediment Reduction by Alpine Unauthorized and Illegal Agricultural Fields Restoration Scenarios)

  • This study assessed the efficiency of reducing soil erosion and suspended sediment through the restoration of alpine unauthorized and illegally cultivated fields, using the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model in the Mandae District. The results showed that in Scenario 5, which involved restoring unauthorized and illegal fields within forests, along rivers (banks), and in ditch areas were restored to their original land categories, achieved the highest efficiency in reducing average annual soil erosion and suspended sediment, with reductions of 8.1% and 4.5%, respectively. In particular, it was confirmed that the restoration of unauthorized and illegal fields within forested areas has a significant impact. This demonstrated that the restoration of unauthorized and illegal agricultural fields can substantially reduce the soil erosion and suspended sediment attributable to non-point source pollution. Our findings highlight the importance of managing these unauthorized and illegal agricultural activities in developing sustainable strategies within non-point source pollution management areas. This study is expected to provide important basic data to effectively establish water quality improvement strategies in the region of non-point source pollution management.

오염총량관리제의 시공간적 미래 토지이용 변화분석을 위한 CLUE-S 모델의 적용 및 평가 (Evaluation and Application of CLUE-S Model for Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Future Land use Change in Total Water Pollution Load Management System)

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the spatio-temporal changes in land uses and to evaluate land-based pollutant loads in the future under Total Water Pollution Load Management System using CLUE-S model. For these ends, sensitive parameters of conversion elasticities in CLUE-S model were calibrated and these calibrated parameters of conversion elasticities, level II land cover map of year 2009, and 7 driving factors of land use changes were used in predicting future land uses in 2002 with two scenarios(Scenario 1: non area restriction, Scenario 2: area restriction). This projected land use map of 2020 was used to estimate land-based pollutant loads. It was expected that urban areas will increase in 2020 from both scenarios 1 and 2. In Scenario 1, urban areas are expected to increase within greenbelt areas and deforest would be expected. Under Scenario 2, these phenomena were not expected. Also the results of estimation of BOD and TP pollutant loads, the BOD difference between scenarios 1 and 2 was 719 kg/day in urban areas and TP difference was 17.60 kg/day in urban areas. As shown in this study, it was found that the CLUE-S model can be useful in future pollutant load estimations because of its capability of projecting future land uses considering various socio-economic driving factors and area-restriction factors, compared with conventionally used land use prediction model.

SSPs 시나리오에 따른 미국쥐손이 적합 서식지 분포 예측 (Prediction of the spatial distribution of suitable habitats for Geranium carolinianum under SSP scenarios)

  • 본 연구는 최근 국내에 귀화식물로 기록된 미국쥐손이의 적합 서식지의 분포에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하고, 미래의 변화를 예측하고자 수행되었다. 전국을 대상으로 총 68개 지점에서 미국쥐손이의 출연 자료를 수집하고 MaxEnt 모델을 적용하여 기준년대(1981~2010)와 기후시나리오에 따른 미래의 적합 서식지 분포를 예측했다. 미국쥐손이의 분포에는 강수량 계절성(bio15), 가장 따뜻한 분기의 평균기온(bio10), 가장 건조한 분기의 평균기온(bio09)가 크게 기여하는 것으로 나타났다. 기후변화에 따라 미국쥐손이의 높은 수준의 적합 서식지는 기준년도에 우리나라 면적의 6.43%를 차지하였고, 먼미래(2071~2100)에는 SSP2-4.5 하에서 92.60%까지, SSP5-4.8 하에서 98.36%까지 차지하는 것으로 예측되었다.

  • 제4차 산업혁명 시대가 도래하면서 전 세계적으로 자율주행자동차에 대한 연구개발이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이러한 국제적인 기조 속에서 국토교통부는 2020년 SAE 기준 레벨 3이상의 자율주행자동차 상용화를 목표로 자율주행자동차 관련 연구개발을 적극적으로 추진하고 있다. 레벨 3 수준의 자율주행자동차에서는 운전자와 자동차 상호 간의 운행주체를 주고받는 제어권 전환이 필수적으로 발생하게 된다. 본격적인 자율주행자동차 시대에 앞서 본 연구에서는 우선적으로 고속도로를 대상으로 가상현실을 이용한 제어권 전환 안전성 평가를 위하여 대표 시나리오를 개발하였다. 이를 위해 자율주행자동차의 고속도로 주행 시나리오를 만들었고, 2014년 발생한 고속도로 교통사고 경위자료와 제어권 전환 특성을 고려하여 6개의 제어권 전환 시나리오를 개발하였다. 개발된 시나리오에서 고려된 변수는 운전자, 차량, 그리고 환경요인으로 크게 나눌 수 있으며, 총 36개의 변수가 포함되었다.

고속도로 종단지형을 고려한 연료 효율적 최적주행전략 모형 개발 (Development of Optimized Driving Model for decreasing Fuel Consumption in the Longitudinal Highway Section)

  • 국토교통부는 2020년까지 수송부문 온실가스 배출량의 감축목표를 34.3%로 설정하였다. 목표달성을 위해 에코드라이빙 교육 및 정보를 제공하고 있으나 배출량 감축효과가 미비하다. 따라서 본 연구는 연료 효율적인 최적주행전략 모형의 개발을 목적으로 하였다. 종단경사도 및 길이가 다양한 도로지형을 생성하고 주행모드를 바탕으로 하는 시나리오별 속도 프로파일을 Comprehensive Modal Emission Model에 적용하여 연료소모량을 산정하였다. 연료소모량이 최소가 되는 시나리오와 속도변화량을 도출하였다. 도출된 시나리오와 속도변화량을 기반으로 최적주행전략 모형을 개발하였다. 개발된 모형을 검증하고자 실차테스트를 수행하여 일반 운전자의 속도 데이터를 수집하였다. 개발된 모형에 의해 생성된 속도 프로파일과 일반운전에 생성된 속도 프로파일을 분석하고 각각 연료소모량을 산정하였다. 최적주행 시 소모된 연료소모량이 일반운전보다 평균 11.8% 감축하는 것으로 분석되었다.

Mobility-Aware Ad Hoc Routing Protocols for Networking Mobile Robot Teams

  • Mobile multi-robot teams are useful in many critical applications such as search and rescue. Explicit communication among robots in such mobile multi-robot teams is useful for the coordination of such teams as well as exchanging data. Since many applications for mobile robots involve scenarios in which communication infrastructure may be damaged or unavailable, mobile robot teams frequently need to communicate with each other via ad hoc networking. In such scenarios, low-overhead and energy-efficient routing protocols for delivering messages among robots are a key requirement. Two important primitives for communication are essential for enabling a wide variety of mobile robot applications. First, unicast communication (between two robots) needs to be provided to enable coordination and data exchange. Second, in many applications, group communication is required for flexible control, organization, and management of the mobile robots. Multicast provides a bandwidth-efficient communication method between a source and a group of robots. In this paper, we first propose and evaluate two unicast routing protocols tailored for use in ad hoc networks formed by mobile multi-robot teams: Mobile robot distance vector (MRDV) and mobile robot source routing (MRSR). Both protocols exploit the unique mobility characteristics of mobile robot networks to perform efficient routing. Our simulation study show that both MRDV and MRSR incur lower overhead while operating in mobile robot networks when compared to traditional mobile ad hoc network routing protocols such as DSR and AODV. We then propose and evaluate an efficient multicast protocol mobile robot mesh multicast (MRMM) for deployment in mobile robot networks. MRMM exploits the fact that mobile robots know what velocity they are instructed to move at and for what distance in building a long lifetime sparse mesh for group communication that is more efficient. Our results show that MRMM provides an efficient group communication mechanism that can potentially be used in many mobile robot application scenarios.

  • With the rapid development of spatial infrastructure in US, Europe, Japan, China and India, there is no doubt that the next generation Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) will improve the integrity, accuracy, reliability and availability of the position solution. GNSS is becoming an essential element of personal, commercial and public infrastructure and consequently part of our daily lives. However, the applicability of GPS in supporting a range of location-sensitive applications such as location based services in an urban environment is severely curtailed by the interference of the 3D urban settings. To characterize and gain in-depth understanding of such interferences and to be able to provide location-based optimization alternatives, a high-fidelity 3D urban model of Melbourne CBD built with ArcGIS and large scale high-resolution spatial data sets is used in this study to support a comprehensive simulation of current and future GNSS signal performance, in terms of signal continuity, availability, strength, geometry, positioning accuracy and reliability based on a number of scenarios. The design, structure and major components of the simulator are outlined. Useful time-stamped spatial patterns of the signal performance over the experimental urban area have been revealed which are valuable for supporting location based services applications, such as emergency responses, the optimization of wireless communication infrastructures and vehicle navigation services.

Protocol for testing of cold-formed steel wall in regions of low-moderate seismicity

  • Loading protocols have been developed for quasi-static cyclic testing of structures and components. However, it is uncertain if protocols developed for conditions of intense ground shaking in regions of high seismicity would also be applicable to regions of low-moderate seismicity that are remote from the tectonic plate boundaries. This study presents a methodology for developing a quasi-static cyclic displacement loading protocol for experimental bracing evaluation of cold-formed steel stud shear walls. Simulations presented in the paper were based on conditions of moderate ground shaking (in Australia). The methodologies presented are generic in nature and can be applied to other regions of similar seismicity conditions (which include many parts of China, Korea, India and Malaysia). Numerous response time histories including both linear and nonlinear analyses have been generated for selected earthquake scenarios and site classes. Rain-flow cycle counting method has been used for determining the number of cycles at various ranges of normalized displacement amplitude. It is found that the number of displacement cycles of the loading protocol increases with increasing intensity of ground shaking (associated with a longer return period).

기후변화를 고려한 홍수방재시설물의 경제성분석 : 임진강 유역사례 (Economic Assessment for Flood Control Infrastructure under Climate Change : A Case Study of Imjin River Basin)

  • 임진강 유역은 1996년부터 1999년까지 3번의 대규모 홍수가 발생하여 많은 인명피해와 9천억원의 재산피해를 입었다. 우리나라는 기후변화로 인하여 홍수피해가 앞으로 증가할 것으로 예상된다. 본 연구는 기후시나리오를 활용하여 미래의 홍수피해를 예측하고, 실물옵션 기반 경제성분석 방법을 제시하였으며, 임진강유역의 홍수방지시설물 투자사업의 사례연구를 통해 경제성분석을 실시하였다. RCP (Representative Concentration Pathway) 기후시나리오에서 모의된 강수량 자료를 활용하여 홍수피해액을 계산하고, 홍수방지시설물 투자에 의한 저감이익을 분석하였다. 향후 RCP8.5와 RCP4.5 기후시나리오가 실현되는 조건을 가정하여 홍수피해 저감이익의 변동성을 구하고, 2071년에 200년 재현주기에 적응하도록 하는 확장을 위한 투자를 할 수 있는 확장옵션을 적용하여 프로젝트의 옵션가치를 구했다. 옵션가치 분석결과, 두 가지 시나리오 하에서 경제성을 확보하고 있음을 확인하였고, RCP8.5 기후시나리오가 실현될 때가 RCP4.5의 경우보다 홍수피해 저감이익이 더 많이 발생하였다. 본 연구는 정부 의사결정권자가 실물옵션분석방법을 활용하여 홍수방재시설물의 경제성분석에 기후변화 불확실성을 고려할 수 있도록 도와줄 것으로 기대되며, 기후시나리오에서 제공하는 강우자료를 활용하여 기후위험요소를 경제적 가치로 정량화하는 방법을 제시하였다.
