Terahertz (THz) represents the portion of the electromagnetic radiation between the microwave and the infrared region and is within the frequency range of 0.1-10 THz. The ability of THz waves to pass through a wide variety of packaging materials, combined with their ability to characterize the molecular structure of many substances makes it an attractive tool for the application of food quality and safety management. This review provides current information on application of THz spectroscopy/imaging technology for food quality and safety management. The THz spectroscopy/imaging technology has been shown to be useful for detecting foreign bodies, vitamin/moisture, pesticides, antibiotics, melamine etc. However, major barriers to the adoption of THz spectroscopy/imaging for food quality and safety management include THz signal loss in heterogeneous food matrices, high costs of sources and detectors, and absence of a library for the wide group of food compounds. Further research is needed to overcome these barriers.

The objective of this study was to implement an in vitro exposure system for 28 GHz to investigate the biological effects of fifth-generation (5G) communication. A signal source of 28 GHz for 5G millimeter-wave (MMW) deployment was developed, followed by a variable attenuator for antenna input power control. A power amplifier was also customized to ensure a maximum output power of 10 W for high-power 28-GHz exposure. A 3-dB uniformity over the 80 mm × 80 mm area that corresponds to four Petri dishes of three-dimensional cell cultures can be obtained using a customized choke-ring-type antenna. An infrared camera is employed for temperature regulation during exposure by adjusting the airflow cooling rate via real-time feedback to the incubator. The reported measurement results confirm that the input power control, uniformity, and temperature regulation for 28-GHz exposure were successfully accomplished, indicating the possibility of a wide application of the implemented in vitro exposure system in the fields of various MMW dose-response studies.
Owing to the rising volume of seaborne trade, oil spills damage the marine environment for over 250 yearly. Thus, various analysis methods such as the Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), Raman spectroscope, and gas chromatography are used to monitor oil spills at sea, but these methods are expensive. Recently, to reduce operational costs, an underwater fluorometer was adopted. However, this approach is not ideal for the remote sensing of oil spills because the device gets submerged in the sea. In this study, we have designed and developed a monitoring system that uses ultraviolet fluorescence to detect spilled oil or water from a distance, as well as proposed an analyzing method defining based on water Raman signal and QF535. Each fluorescence spectrum of water, oil (crude oil), and Bunker A was obtained using the system, and was calculated and analyzed from the spectrum individually. Based on the results of the analysis, we could successfully identity water and oil at a long distance.
A readout circuit for a mercury-cadmium-telluride (MCT)-amplified mid-wave infrared (IR) photodetector was realized and applied to noncontact chemical agent detectors based on a quantum cascade laser (QCL). The QCL emitted 250 times for each wavelength in 0.2-㎛ steps from 8 to 12 ㎛ with a frequency of 100 kHz and duty ratio of 10%. Because of the nonconstant QCL emission power during on-duty, averaging the photodetector signals is essential. Averaging can be performed in digital back-end processing through a high-speed analog-to-digital converter (ADC) or in analog front-end processing through an integrator circuit. In addition, it should be considered that the 250 IR data points should be completely transferred to a PC during each wavelength tuning period of the QCL. To average and minimize the IR data, we designed a readout circuit using the analog front-end processing method. The proposed readout circuit consisted of a switched-capacitor integrator, voltage level shifter, relatively low-speed analog-to-digital converter, and micro-control unit. We confirmed that the MCT photodetector signal according to the QCL source can be accurately read and transferred to the PC without omissions.
Thanks to IEEE 802.11 technique, accessing Internet through a wireless LAN(Local Area Network) is possible in the most of the places including university campuses, shopping malls, offices, hospitals, stations, and so on. Most of the APs(access points) for wireless LAN are supporting 2.4 GHz band 802.11b and 802.11g protocols. This paper is introducing a C# library function which can be used to read RSSIs(Received Signal Strength Indicator) from APs. An LBS(Location Based Service) estimates the current location of the user and provides useful user's location-based services such as navigation, points of interest, and so on. Therefore, indoor, LBS is very desirable. However, an indoor LBS cannot be realized unless indoor position ing is possible. For indoor positioning, techniques of using infrared, ultrasound, signal strength of UDP packet have been proposed. One of the disadvantages of these techniques is that they require special equipments dedicated for positioning. On the other hand, wireless LAN-based indoor positioning does not require any special equipments and more economical. A wireless LAN-based positioning cannot be realized without reading RSSIs from APs. Therefore, our C# library function will be widely used in the field of indoor positioning. In addition to providing a C# library function of reading RSSI, this paper introduces implementation of indoor positioning modules making use of the library function. The methods used in the implementation are K-NN(K Nearest Neighbors), Bayesian and trilateration. K-NN and Bayesian are kind of fingerprinting method. A fingerprint method consists of off-line phase and realtime phase. The process time of realtime phase must be fast. This paper proposes a decision tree method in order to improve the process time of realtime phase. Experimental results of comparing performances of these methods are also discussed.

Respiration motion causes movement of internal structures in the thorax and abdomen, making accurate delivery of radiation therapy to tumors in those areas a challenge. Accounting for such motion during treatment, therefore, has the potential to reduce margins drawn around the clinical target volume (CTV), resulting in a lower dose to normal tissues (e.g., lung and liver) and thus a lower risk of treatment induced complications. Among the techniques that explicitly account for intrafraction motion are breath-hold, respiration gating, and 4D or tumor-tracking techniques. Respiration gating methods periodically turn the beam on when the patient's respiration signal is in a certain part of the respiratory cycle (generally end-inhale or end-exhale). These techniques require acquisition of some form of respiration motion signal (infrared reflective markers, spirometry, strain gauge, thermistor, video tracking of chest outlines and fluoroscopic tracking of implanted markers are some of the techniques employed to date), which is assumed to be correlated with internal anatomy motion. In preliminary study for the respiratory gating radiation therapy, we performed to measurement of this respiration motion signal. In order to measure the respiratory motion signals of patient, respiration measurement system (RMS) was composed with three sensor (spirometer, thermistor, and belt transducer), 4 channel data acquisition system and mobile computer. For two patients, we performed to evaluation of respiratory cycle and shape with RMS. We observed under this system that respiratory cycle is generally periodic but asymmetric, with the majority of time spent. As expected, RMS traced patient's respiration each other well and be easily handled for application.
Measuring the distance between benchmarks placed on a volcano tens to thousands of meters apart can sometimes pinpoint where and when magma is rising toward the surface. Rising magma will sometimes push overlying rocks upward or shove them aside. In either case, one part of the volcano may actually move horizontally relative to another part from as little as a few millimeters to as much as several tens of meters. The challenge in measuring such changes with an electronic distance meter is putting benchmarks in the right places and making frequent measurements between pairs of benchmarks. An electronic distance meter is an instrument that both sends and receives an electromagnetic signal. Depending on the distance between the EDM and reflector, the wavelength of the returned signal will be out of phase with the transmitted signal. The instrument compares the phase of the transmitted and received signals and measures the phase difference electronically. There is a wide range of EDM capabilities in range and precision, but for volcano monitoring purposes, short-range (less than 10 km) to medium-range (less than 50 km) EDM's are typically used. Short-range EDM's transmit and receive the near visible infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum for measuring distances with an accuracy of about 5 mm.

In this paper, we proposed Channel allocation scheme according to the user's location with IR. In VLC System, LED can generate various colors of light by controlling the mixing ratio of each individual RGB color element. Thus, each RGB channel will have a different signal power, and each channel will have different performance. This proposed system using Visible light(RGB) as way to transmit signals, it depends on the mixture RGB, which decided the color of light, moreover, each things determined their performance. However, if the signal were fixed allocated RGB to transmit such as the original system, the importance of the each signals a different occur the limit on the quality of signals. To solve this problem in this paper, according to the RGB mixture ratios analyze the performance for the LED, which analyzed based on allocating the signal by transmitting to improve the quality was about how researched. In addition, our proposed system is able to improve the performance of BER and satisfied the Qos to desire users.

The electrical behavior and flexibility of the screen printed Ag circuits were investigated with infrared radiation sintering times and sintering temperatures. Electrical resistivity and radio frequency characteristics were evaluated by using the 4 point probe measurement and the network analyzer by using cascade's probe system, respectively. Electrical resistivity and radio frequency characteristics means that the direct current resistance and signal transmission properties of the printed Ag circuit. Flexibility of the screen printed Ag circuit was evaluated by measuring of electrical behavior during IPC sliding test. Failure mode of the Ag printed circuits was observed by using field emission scanning electron microscope and optical microscope. Electrical resistivity of the Ag circuits screen printed on Pl substrate was rapidly decreased with increasing sintering temperature and durations. The lowest electrical resistivity of Ag printed circuit was up to $3.8{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ at $250^{\circ}C$ for 45 min. The crack length arisen within the printed Ag circuit after $10{\times}10^4$ sliding numbers was 10 times longer than that of after $2.5{\times}10^4$ sliding numbers. Measured insertion loss and calculated insertion loss were in good agreements each other. Insertion loss of the printed Ag circuit was increased with increasing the number of sliding cycle.

Most crop damages have been occurred by vermin(e.g., wild birds and herbivores) during the period between seeding and the cotyledon level. In this study, to minimize the damage by vermin and acquire the benefits such as protection against weeds and maintenance of water content in soil, immediately vinyl mulching after seeding was devised. Vinyl mulching has been generally covered with black color vinyl, that crop seeding locations cannot be detected by visible light range. Before punching vinyl, non-contact and non-destructive methods that can continuously determine the locations are necessary. In this study, a crop position detection method was studied that uses infrared thermal image sensor to determine the cotyledon position under vinyl mulch. The moving system for acquiring image arrays has been developed for continuously detecting crop locations under plastic mulching on the field. A sliding mechanical device was developed to move the sensor, which were arranged in the form of a linear array, perpendicular to the array using a micro-controller integrated with a stepping motor. The experiments were conducted while moving 4.00 cm/s speed of the IR sensor by the rotational speed of the stepping motor based on a digital pulse width modulation signal from the micro-controller. The acquired images were calibrated with the spatial image correlation. The collected data were processed using moving averaging on interpolation to determine the frame where the variance was the smallest in resolution units of 1.02 cm. For this study, the spline method was relatively faster than the other polynomial interpolation methods, because it has a lower maximum order of formulation when using a system such as the tridiagonal linear equation system which provided the capability of real-time processing. The temperature distribution corresponding to the distance between the crops was 10 cm, and the more clearly the leaf pattern of the crop was visually confirmed. The frequency difference was decreased, as the number of overlapped pixels was increased. Also the wave pattern of points where the crops were recognized were reduced.
