  • This study was performed to develop an information processing system for the sound conservation of soil and groundwater resources. The system contains the geographic spatial information system(GSIS), and the numerical model of groundwater flow and contamination. Numerical models (MODFLOW, MOC3D, MT3D, PMPATH, PEST, UCODE) and GSIS(ArcView) were integrated for the construction of an integrated management system of subsurface environment. The developed system was applied to the management of three mineral water companies located in clean mountain area. The impact of pumping over the overall catchment basin was modeled using the developed system for the decision of future management criteria.

  • During the last two years, Site Information and Total Environmental database management System (SITES) ver. 1.0 has been developed for the systematic SITES Database Module (SDM), which includes site information, facility information and environmental information. The SITES includes the module for site environmental monitoring system and safety assessment (M&A) system for the nuclear facility. SITES is expected to be an effective system for the radioactive waste disposal management facility. Currently, SITES ver.2.0 is under development after the SITES ver.1.0 that is focused on the M&A system. The main purpose of this paper is to introduce and try to account for the major development in the concept of SEMS sub-module of the M&A module. The SEMS is purposed of development of the program for real time environmental monitoring, prediction, and automatic alarm system using SITES Database and related information.

  • The systematic information management of chemical accidents is required as a tool for the policy making, system improvement and release of information. However, there isn't yet a systematic chemical accidents tracking system in Korea, which make a confusion that the related statistics are different from each others. In this research, we analyzed domestic and international chemical accidents data and made the chemical accident codes for the information tracking system properly.

  • As the development of total management systems for sites along with site environmental information is becoming standard, the system known as the Site Information and Total Environmental database management System (SITES) has been developed over the last two years. The first result was a database management system for storing data obtained from facilities, and a site characterization in addition to an environmental assessment of a site. The SITES database is designed to be effective and practical for use with facility management and safety assessment in relation to Geographic Information Systems. SITES is a total management program, which includes its database, its data analysis system required for site characterization, a safety assessment modeling system and an environment monitoring system. It can contribute to the institutional management of the facility and to its safety reassessment. SITES is composed of two main modules: the SITES Database module (SDM) and the Monitoring & Assessment (M&A) module [1]. The M&A module is subdivided into two sub-modules: the Safety Assessment System (SAS) and the Site Environmental Monitoring System (SEMS). SAS controls the data (input and output) from the SITES DB for the site safety assessment, whereas SEMS controls the data obtained from the records of the measuring sensors and facilities. The on-line site and environmental monitoring data is managed in SEMS. The present paper introduces the procedure and function of the M&A modules.

  • This is a pilot study to develop an environmental information system, that is a compute. system for managing various urban environments data of S.M.C(Seoul Metropolitar City), and is also supporting the environmental policy decision-making for the city government. With 2 times of business analysis, the present status of environmental information management in S.M.C. and the major business processes and the data required to computerization were produced. As a result of this study, the model of S.E.I.S.(Seoul Environmental Information System) was developed, which includes the purpose of system, basic system components, and functions of subsystems. Finally a comprehensive strategy for developing the S.E.I.S which includes action plans and annual plans, organizaions for operation, and for project management was provided.

  • As important ecological systems, wetlands contribute a wide array of biological, social. and economic benefits. However, wetlands are lost until the present, primarily due to human induced land-use conversions. Society is placing demands for the efficient preservation and management on Woopo wetland as the first largest wetland in Korea. GIS(Geographic Information System) is a rapidly developing technology for handling, analyzing, and modeling ecological information on wetlands. In the paper, Woopo Wetland Management System has been developed by using Desktop GIS and Internet GIS technology to embrace major functions: information query and browsing, spatial searching on map, and rule-based analysis. As a menu-driven system, these functions are designed to be implemented through customized menus. The developed system is expected to be used for the effective publicity service as well as the professional management of Woopo.

  • Main purpose of this study is to suggest improvement of environmental information disclosure system and to find out counterplan for hospitals based on literal review and 41 hospitals/clinic's environmental information data(2011) released by the Korean ENV-INFO SYSTEM. The research methodology used to analyze 18 items divided between 7 for compulsory and 11 for voluntary was primarily quantitative. Research subjects was comprised of 33 general hospitals, 6 hospitals and 1 clinic. Environmental information disclosure system needs to be improved as follows: (1) enlargement of citizen participation, (2) upgrade of 'Company Overview', (3) clear definition of items, (4) unifying measure unit, (5) close verification, (6) creating standards for additional informations. The following activities are critical for hospitals: (1) reliability enhancement of hospital's data, (2) reorganization strategy & green management system, (3) water/energy reduction data accumulation, (4) greenhouse gas emission reduction planning, (5) introduction of green purchase guidelines, (6) digital publication of environmental(sustainable) report.

  • This study is to empirically investigate structural relations and the degree of effects among environmental strategy, environmental management system, environmental activities, and firm performance by using structural equation modelling. In particular, we focus on examining how the structure and the effect vary according to the type of environmental strategies. In this study, environmental strategies are classified as "passive type" and "active type" by the cluster analysis, which are used for developing two different research models. For firms employing active environmental strategy, the environmental strategy has a positive effect on all of environmental management system, environmental activities, and firm performance. For firms employing passive environmental strategy, the environmental strategy has a positive effect on both of environmental management system and environmental activities, while it does not have a statistically significant effect on firm performance. The study empirically supports that the active environmental management will result in a positive firm performance.

  • In this paper, the difficulties involved in analyzing and designing a management system for product development are discussed with reference to reducing the impact of products on the environment. We propose some models and methods to analyze information behavior in the process of product development based on a fusion model which integrates the assessments of users’ needs, the environment, and available technology. These models and methods are subsequently applied to the development of a new packaging material. The results of this case study allow us to identify effective information for the design of a management system for product development to reduce the impact of products on the environment.
