  • The purpose of this study was to identify fashion leadership and information seeking as a part of adolescents'clothing purchase behavior study. The questionnaire was administered to 291 junior high school students. The data were analyzed using factor analysis, t-test and ANOVA utilizing SPSS/PC/sup +/. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The adolescents usually used store information seeking and consultation with friends as continuous information seeking. The adolescents usually read fashion articles in the fashion magazine more than fashion advertisements. As information seeking before purchasing, they watched store displayed or window displayed clothes the most, and then consulted with friends or family members. The degree of information seeking before purchasing was significantly different according to the number of purchasing clothes. 2. Three factors (mass communication informations, observation & personal information, and family members information) of information sources derived by factor analysis. 3. Three groups were classified as fashion leaders, fashion flowers, and fashion laggards according to fashion leadership. Girls perceived themselves as fashion leaders much more than boys did. There was significant difference among three fashion leadership groups in the number of purchasing clothes and price partially. 4. • Information behavior is an important area of research in library and information science (LIS) that has evolved over the last 75 years. The aim of this study is to investigate the recent trends of information behavior research by providing insights into emerging topical areas within information behavior. To conduct this study, the bibliographic data from Scopus was used, and the trends of information behavior were traced by using variations of key terms used in information behavior research, such as "information behavior", "information seeking behavior", and "information needs." In addition, the trends were analyzed in terms of content words in the title, highly cited journal articles, disciplinary categories, and author keywords. Information behavior research has its roots in LIS, but the findings of the study reveal that information behavior has expanded to other disciplines by intersecting a variety of topical areas. In particular, this study showed that information behavior in the health/medicine domain has become a predominant emerging topical area of research. In order to enhance our understanding of complex human behavior, future research should focus more on interdisciplinary aspects by measuring the scope of information behavior.

  • While numerous studies have suggested the significance of uncertainty during the process of information-seeking, less research has investigated user uncertainty in the actual search process using a real system. This study investigated user perceptions of uncertainty in the process of the selection of information retrieval system in the real information-seeking process. Considering the role of commercial Web search engines as supplementary tools for traditional bibliographic databases in academic research environments, this study analyzed the selection behavior of scholarly researchers, who use such search tools for their academic study. The researchers were limited to the discipline of science in order to understand user perceptions in this field. The findings revealed various dimensions, types, and incidents of uncertainty. Variations appeared in different incidents of uncertainty relating to the unique characteristics of the subjects' information-seeking context. The identification of three principal origins of uncertainty based on the different types of uncertainty generated implications to improve information systems and services.

  • The number of SMEs taking up information systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning has been growing rapidly, and many of those organizations have stepped into the stage of ongoing use at this point. Thus, research which takes into account idiosyncratic nature of SME environment is more important than before. Through an empirical study using survey method, we tried to examine the importance of end user's feedback seeking behavior in SMEs and how environmental factors affecting such behavior reinforce and interact with the feedback seeking behavior itself. The result shows that end user's active role as a voluntary feedback seeker is important in utilizing information systems in accordance with the initial design intention in ongoing use environment. Furthermore, in order to facilitate such feedback seeking behavior in SME environment, it is essential that management's involvement and communicating to its employees the importance of effectively utilizing the information systems as well as the support of peer IT champ.

  • Timely access to quality healthcare information during an outbreak plays an important role in curtailing its spread. The aim of this study was to investigate the information needs and seeking behavior of the general public in Singapore during the H1N1 pandemic. A pre-tested questionnaire was used for data collection. The convenience snowball sampling method was used and 260 working adults and tertiary-level students participated in this study. The most crucial information needs of a majority of the participants were: symptoms of H1N1, causes of the infection, preventive measures, and possible treatments. Data analysis also revealed that mass media such as television, newspapers, and radio were most frequently used for seeking the needed information. The use of human information sources was also quite high while only a small number of the respondents accessed online news and healthcare websites. About three-quarters of the participants indicated that the gathered information helped them to stay vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures. A major problem identified by the participants in using H1N1 information was the lack of understanding of certain terms used in public communications. This paper suggests certain measures for strengthening health information communication during future outbreaks.

  • This study aims to analyze multiple predictors of information seeking behavior, including information seeking intention about breast cancer, using the risk information seeking and processing (RISP) model. Data from 680 female respondents shows that when individuals perceived the risk of breast cancer, they felt more negative emotions, such as anxiety and nervousness, which increased the need for more information about the risk and tendency to seek information. In addition, information subjective norms were positively related with information seeking intention. When individuals felt they lacked relevant information, their seeking intention increased. Lastly, seeking intention led to breast cancer screening intention.

  • This study analyzed academic information seeking behavior, focusing on university students, the main users of the university library, to derive considerations for the development and improvement of the subject guide of the university library. As a result of the analysis, university students highly evaluated their subjective information seeking ability, but it was found that it was difficult to set specific search terms. The purpose of using academic information is specific, and it has been shown that there is a tendency to perform all information search activities in one database. In addition, when selecting information resources, reliability, suitability, and recency are primarily taken into consideration. Awareness of university libraries and subject guides was generally low, but their reliability was found to be high. Based on this, it is necessary to consider the classification of information sources according to specific information seeking purposes, the composition of information resources, explanatory element technology related to information resource selection criteria, comprehensive database, topic keyword recommendation, library marketing, and close cooperation with internal institutions.
