  • Robots are widely used in various automation processes in industrial applications. Traditionally, it operated under fixed condition by teaching operating positions. Recently, diverse 2D/3D sensors are used together with robot to give more flexibility in operation. In this paper, we deal with automatic manipulation of tie rod in automotive production line. Sensor system consisted of a camera and slit laser is used for the acquisition of 3D information and it is used attached on the robot. Nut runner is used for the manipulation of stop nut and adjust bolt on the tie rod. Detailed procedures for the automatic manipulation of tie rod are presented. In the presented approach, we effectively use 3D information in whole procedure such as computing distance to the tie rod, rotation angle of bolt and nut. Experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.

  • Political campaigns circulate manipulative opinions in online communities to implant false beliefs and eventually win elections. Not only is this type of manipulation unfair, it also has long-lasting negative impacts on people's lives. Existing tools detect political manipulation based on a supervised classifier, which is accurate when trained with large labeled data. However, preparing this data becomes an excessive burden and must be repeated often to reflect changing manipulation tactics. We propose a practical detection system that requires moderate groundwork to achieve a sufficient level of accuracy. The proposed system groups opinions with similar properties into clusters, and then labels a few opinions from each cluster to build a classifier. It also models each opinion with features deduced from raw data with no additional processing. To validate the system, we collected over a million opinions during three nation-wide campaigns in South Korea. The system reduced groundwork from 200K to nearly 200 labeling tasks, and correctly identified over 90% of manipulative opinions. The system also effectively identified transitions in manipulative tactics over time. We suggest that online communities perform periodic audits using the proposed system to highlight manipulative opinions and emerging tactics.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of whole-task sequencing emphasis manipulation on expertise acquisition in web based complex task. To achieve the purpose, emphasis manipulation sequencing type is composed of a simple emphasis manipulation, a snowballing manipulation, and a full emphasis manipulation sequencing and participants was drawn from a pool of 93 undergraduate students sampled for the study. According to the findings, a snowballing manipulation group invested significantly lower cognitive load than a full emphasis manipulation group but did not a simple emphasis manipulation group. Based on these findings, though complex task is included of high interactivity owing to real task, learner cannot suffer cognitive overload because emphasis manipulation which can view the whole task and the part task in parallel provides meta cognition for learner. And whole-task sequencing emphasis manipulation affects to transfer. The snowballing emphasis manipulation group invested significantly higher than simple emphasis manipulation group and full emphasis manipulation group. Based on these findings, the snowballing manipulation which learner use whole-task sequencing and part-task sequencing simultaneously contribute to understandings and ability to solve problems for complex task and it will in turn, lead to expertise acquisition.

  • In highly informative, perception-rich environments that we call Omniscient Spaces, robots interact with physical objects which in turn afford robots the information showing how the objects should be manipulated. Object manipulation is commonly believed one of the most basic tasks in robot applications. However, no approaches including visual servoing seem satisfactory in unstructured environments such as our everyday life. Thus, in Omniscient Spaces, the features of the environments embed themselves in every entity, allowing robots to easily identify and manipulate unknown objects. To achieve this end, we propose a new paradigm of the interaction through Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The aim of this paper is to learn about RFID and investigate how it works in object manipulation. Specifically, as an innovative trial for autonomous, real-time manipulation, a likely mobile robot equipped with an RFID system is developed. Details on the experiments are described together with some preliminary results.

  • This article examines the potential impact of the Covid-19 Lockdown on earnings manipulation and stock market sensitivity to earnings announcements. It also explores the effects of earnings manipulation after the COVID-19 outbreak on the share price sensitivity to the earnings disclosures. The study uses a quantitative method to analyze the financial data consisting of 87 firms listed on the Iraq Stock Exchange for the period from 2018 to 2020, which constitutes a total of (174 observations). We used Ohlson (1995) model to estimate financial market reaction and sensitivity to earnings manipulation fluctuations and accounting information. The results show that companies practice earnings manipulation to maintain earnings over a time series, which means a negative impact of earnings manipulation on all earnings measures' value relevance (EPS, BVS, and CFS). Accordingly, earnings manipulation negatively influences investor behavior in the financial market, based mainly on financial reporting. The value relevance of financial reports has also decreased because of the COVID-19 outbreak and related economic Lockdown. These results reflect a long-term adverse impact of earnings manipulation on investor behavior and financial statements reliability.

  • The informativeness of accounting earnings to investors may be used as a measure of the quality of accounting information. The ownership structure is considered to be related to both of two variables, the reliability of earnings reflecting the economic performance of the enterprise and the existence of alternative information sources. Earnings manipulation may mitigate the correlation between accounting earnings and the economic performance and alternative information sources decrease the value of accounting earnings as an information. Thus ownership structure could influence the informativeness of accounting earnings. This paper classifies ownership into three categories, management or inside ownership, institutional investors and large outside blockholders, and diffuse outside ownership and examines theoretically the difference of information effectiveness under each ownership structure. The earnings manipulation hypothesis supports the assertion that the separation of ownership from control motivates earnings manipulation. And differential information hypothesis suggests that more non-accounting information of firms with institutional or concentrated outside ownership is provided. Outside blockholders have alternative information sources that make accounting manipulation ineffective. While most previous studies have examined the effect of ownership on the informativeness of earnings from earnings manipulation hypothesis, this study is motivated by both earnings manipulation hypothesis and differential information hypothesis.

  • As virtual reality technology became popular, a high demand emerged for natural and efficient interaction with the virtual environment. Mid-air manipulation is one of the solutions to such needs, letting a user manipulate a virtual object in a 3D virtual space. In this paper, we focus on manipulating a remote virtual object while visually displaying the object and providing tactile information on the object's weight. We developed two types of wearable interfaces that can provide cutaneous or vibrotactile feedback on the virtual object weight to the user's fingertips. Human perception of the remote virtual object weight during manipulation was evaluated by conducting a psychophysics experiment. The results indicate a significant effect of haptic feedback on the perceived weight of the virtual object during manipulation.

  • Face manipulation tools represented by Deepfake have threatened the security of people's biological identity information. Particularly, manipulation tools with deep learning technology have brought great challenges to Deepfake detection. There are many solutions for Deepfake detection based on traditional machine learning and advanced deep learning. However, those solutions of detectors almost have problems of poor performance when evaluated on different quality datasets. In this paper, for the sake of making high-quality Deepfake datasets, we provide a preprocessing method based on the image pixel matrix feature to eliminate similar images and the residual channel attention network (RCAN) to resize the scale of images. Significantly, we also describe a Deepfake detector named Cascaded-Hop which is based on the PixelHop++ system and the successive subspace learning (SSL) model. By feeding the preprocessed datasets, Cascaded-Hop achieves a good classification result on different manipulation types and multiple quality datasets. According to the experiment on FaceForensics++ and Celeb-DF, the AUC (area under curve) results of our proposed methods are comparable to the state-of-the-art models.

  • Objectives : This study aims to review the actual use of acupuncture manipulation in clinical trials and to discuss the directions of studies, to be conducted in the future. Methods : Through five search engines, clinical trial papers were collected, which had involved the use of acupuncture treatment since 2001 when STRICTA was published. The selected papers were classified based on whether acupuncture manipulation and De-Qi were stated. The comparison status of domestic and foreign, status by year, target diseases, and therapeutic interventions were also investigated. Results : 54 % domestic and 69 % foreign papers mentioned acupuncture manipulation or De-Qi. Among them, acupuncture manipulation was used in 40 % domestic and 53 % foreign papers. There was no significant difference around 2010 when the revised edition of STRICTA was published. The use of acupuncture manipulation was the highest in studies that targeted musculoskeletal disorders. Besides that, the use of acupuncture manipulation was higher in cases where acupuncture was used for therapeutic interventions than it was for basic manipulation or combination therapy. Conclusion : Compared to the importance of acupuncture manipulation and De-Qi, there was actually a smaller number of papers that clearly suggested information on acupuncture manipulation and De-Qi. The reason is considered to be a lack of studies to establish the mechanism and effectiveness of each acupuncture manipulation method and studies that objectified the amount of stimulation incurred by the acupuncture manipulation methods. It is necessary to properly utilize acupuncture manipulation by actively conducting these studies.
