Mobile Subscriber Roaming n Different Mobile Networks Using UIM and PASM

  • During a time when cellular systems are being deployed in massive scale worldwide, international roaming is becoming increasingly important. This paper presents UIM (User Identification Module) for mobility support, authentication, and service portability between different mobile systems. We also introduce network model based on PASM(Portable Authentication and Mobility Service Machine) which will support signaling protocol and user information conversions with database for roaming between different mobile networks. Stored data types and elements in UIM, logical data structure and configuration, and registration procedures are described here in the case of DCN (Digital CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) Network System) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications).

Reducing Rekeying Time Using an Integrated Group Key Agreement Scheme

  • With the requirement for providing multiple levels of access control for group members, many group key management schemes designed for hierarchical access control have been put forward. However, most of these schemes focus on the efficiency of group key establishment and rekeying in centralized environments. This paper proposes an integrated group key agreement (IGK) scheme for contributory environments. The IGK scheme employs the integrated key graph to remove key redundancies existing in single key trees, and reduces key establishment and rekeying time while providing hierarchical access control. Performance analyses and simulations conducted with respect to computation and communication overheads indicate that our proposed IGK scheme is more efficient than the independent group key agreement scheme.

  • With the advance of wireless communications technology, mobile communications have become more convenient than ever. Nowadays, people can communicate with each other on any place at any time. However, because of the openness of wireless communications, the way to protect the privacy between communicating parties is becoming a very important issue. In this paper, we present a study on the authentication and message encryption algorithm to support roaming service to the GSM network. To propose an authentication and message encryption algorithm applicable to the GSM system, the security architecture of the GSM outlined in the GSM standard is briefly introduced. In the proposed cryptosystems we use a new hash function for user authentication and a stream cipher based on Linear Feedback Shift Register(LFSR) for message encryption and decryption. Moreover, each algorithm is programmed with C language and simulated on IBM-PC system and we analyze the randomness properties of the proposed algorithms by using statistical tests.

Zone-Based Self-Organized Clustering with Byzantine Agreement in MANET

  • The proposed zone-based self-organized clustering broadcasts neighbor information to only a zone with the same ID. Besides, the zone-based self-organized clustering with unique IDs can communicate securely even if the state transition of nodes in zone-based self-organized clustering is threatened by corrupted nodes. For this security, the Byzantine agreement protocol with proactive asynchronous verifiable secret sharing (AVSS) is considered. As a result of simulation, an efficiency and a security of the proposed clustering are better than those of a traditional clustering. Therefore, this paper describes a new and extended self-organized clustering that securely seeks to minimize the interference in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs).

  • We investigate a probabilistic public key cryptosystem proposed by Paillier. It is based on the discrete logarithmic function and the messages are calculated from the modular product of two those functions, one of which has a fixed value depending on a given public key. The improvement is achieved by a good choice for the public key so that it is possible to get efficient schemes without losing the onewayness and semantic security. Also we suggest the method to get the public key for our schemes.

  • In cryptographic applications, the key protection is either knowledge-based (passwords) or possession-based (tamper-proof device). Unfortunately, both approaches are easily forgotten or stolen, thus introducing various key management issues. By incorporating biometrics technologies which utilize the uniqueness of personal characteristics, the security of cryptosystems could be strengthened as authentication now requires the presence of the user. Biometric Cryptosystem (BC) encompasses the design of cryptographic keys protection methods by incorporating biometrics. BC involves either key-biometrics binding or direct key generation from biometrics. However, the wide acceptance and deployment of BC solutions are constrained by the fuzziness related with biometric data. Hence, error correction codes (ECCs) should be adopted to ensure that fuzziness of biometric data can be alleviated. In this overview paper, we present such ECC solutions used in various BCs. We also delineate on the important facts to be considered when choosing appropriate ECCs for a particular biometric based solution from accuracy performance and security perspectives.

  • Virtual Private Network (VPN) is commonly used in business situations to provide secure communication channels over public infrastructure such as Internet. This is important matters because these networks can be set-up with a lower cost of ownership compared to other means of securing communications. VPN is a proven technology that does provide security strong enough for business use. However, performance of these networks is also important in that lowering network and server resources can lower costs and improve user satisfaction.   • As the Internet has been growing, WWW(World Wide Web) based services were popularized and users using the service were increased excessively. Recently, the instances of communications between the applications and interaction applications using the Web services in the implementation of the business logics among the enterprises are spread widely. Therefore, it has been emphasized quality and security of web services. In this paper, we described standard trends for web servises. And we analyzed the security policies to protect user's informations. Eventually, We described a security enhancement method for web service.

  • With the radical improvement of wire and wireless communication technologies, home network which interconnects various home appliances is approaching ripening stage. Digitalization of the home environment will break down the boundaries of information, communications and broadcasting, and enable us to realize many breakthroughs on the home front and connect to our home. In order to enable users to access securely to their home network, we first construct secure home network model which can authorize users using their permission policy. In this paper, we examine various security technique used in home network and propose home network security scheme which can service constantly.
