FPGA based Dynamic Thresholding Circuit

  • Thresholding has been used to reduce the number of gray values in images. Typically, a single threshold value has been used, resulting in two gray level images. Image reduction of one single threshold value, however, may lose too much of the high-frequency edge information. Thus, dynamic thresholding that uses a different threshold for each pixel is preferred instead of using a single threshold value. Dynamic thresholding can preserve high frequency details as well as reduce the size of images. Since it takes long time to perform existing software dynamic thresholding in an embedded system, this paper proposes and implements a circuit by using a FPGA in order to perform a real-time dynamic thresholding,. The proposed circuit consists of two counters, and threshold look-up table, and control unit. The values of two counters determine each pixel position, the threshold look-up table converts each pixel value into other value, and the control unit generates necessary control signals. On arriving from a camera to the proposed circuit, each pixel is compared with its threshold value and is converted into other gray value. An image processing system by using the proposed circuit will be implemented and some experiments will be performed.

Estimation on the Future Traffic Volumes and Analysis on Information Value of Tidal Current Signal in Incheon (인천항의 장래 교통량 추정 및 조류신호의 정보가치 분석)

  • This paper estimated the future traffic volume incoming and outgoing in Incheon port, and analyzed the value of information serviced by tidal current signal operation center in Incheon. The cargo traffic in 2020 will increase twice as much as in 2005 according to the national ports basis plan. The maritime traffic will increase greatly consequently. Also, MOMAF has operated tidal current signal operation center to prevent marine accidents caused by current influence on vessels navigating through Incheon. However the quantitative effect is not known because there is no analysis about its value. Therefore the value of information serviced by tidal current signal operation center in Incheon was calculated with contingent valuation method(CVM), and the information value was analyzed considering future traffic in this study. Thus, the annual information value was calculated at about $170{\sim}280$ million won, considered traffic volume using the information of tidal current directly in 2020 since 2006.

A Study on Information Usefulness of Intellectual Capital (지적자본의 정보유용성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper examined the significance of Intellectual Capital. In recent years the number of companies whose value lies largely with their intellectual capital has increased dramatically. Dr. Margaret Blair of the Brookings Institute reported a significant shift in the makeup of company assets. In 1978, her study showed that 80 pecent of the firms'value was associated with its tangible assets, with 20 pecent associated with its intangible assets. By 1998, only 30 pecent of the value of the firms studied was attributable to tangible assets while 70 pecent was associated with the value of their intangibles. This paper used the result of her study. This paper tested the correlation of enterprise value and intellectual capital, cash flow, net income and net assets. The results showed that the correlation of enterprise value and intellectual capital was most significant.

  • This research focused on the comparison of corporate business mokels to explain different financial performances on the eBusiness domain. Especially, because customers have the more buying [ower tha other business areas, customer value and the service quality were prepared for independent variables and operational margin which can be obtained by publicize report was used for a dependent variable in stead of the other variables dependent on human perception as well. As a result, this research found that the customer value measured by service quality concept impact on the financial performance of eBusiness corporation positively. To find out more delicate results, structural equation was used for statistical method using 324 survey samples on 10 corporations. Though data using for statistical analysis were divided into individual and corporate level and have the time gap between research time and financial performance publicized period, the value of this research is that the customer value and service quality concepts with very objective financial information were input for constructing a research model.

Sponsored Online Community Types and Participant's Perceived Value

  • The growth of social media has enabled firms to create virtual organizations (online communities) in which value can be co-created with members. Yet, current typologies of firm-sponsored online communities focus either on the firm or participants, and not the interaction between them. This paper provides a systematic review of the online community literature from 2000 to 2018 to develop an understanding of the types of firm-sponsored online communities and the co-creation of value within them. Four types of sponsored online communities are found. These can be differentiated based on the output for the sponsoring firm and the level of self-organization of the communities. This study contributes to the discussion of value co-creation by (i) shedding light on differences among firm-sponsored online community types based on the level and nature of interaction within an online community; and (ii) examining the perceived value co-created through community interactive experiences.

Clothing Behavior by Value Group of Baby Clothes Purchasers (유아복 구매자들의 가치집단에 따른 의복구매행동)

  • This research subdivided the groups of baby clothes purchasers by consumer value factors in order to study clothing behavior by the value group of baby clothes purchasers and to examine differences in shopping propensity, pursuit benefits, evaluation criteria, and utilization of information sources depending on the value groups 1. A total of three factors - the pursuit of a stable life, the pursuit of achievement, and the pursuit of pleasure - were derived by conducting a factor analysis on the value dimensions of baby clothes purchasers. The value types of baby clothes purchasers were classified into three groups - the group of the pursuit of achievement, the group of the pursuit of stability and pleasure, and the passive group as the result of conducting cluster analysis on the basis of three types of personal value factors. 2. In the difference of shopping propensity by the value group, the group of the pursuit of achievement and the group of the pursuit of stability and pleasure were found to be the group having economical shopping propensity. In the difference of pursuit benefits by the value group, the passive group appeared to be the group in pursuit of fashion, and it could be seen that the group of the pursuit of achievement and the group of the pursuit of stability and pleasure were highly interested in the pursuit of individuality and practicality. 3. In the evaluation criteria of clothes by the value group of baby clothes purchasers, the group of the pursuit of achievement was found to consider physical criteria as important evaluation criteria, and the group of the pursuit of stability and pleasure was found to consider aesthetic criteria as important evaluation criteria. In the utilization of information sources by the value group of baby clothes purchasers, the passive group was found to be influenced most by market-oriented information sources.

Measuring (and Increasing) the Value of Academic Libraries

  • The value of the university library to faculty, students, and administrators has long been assumed. In an era of decreasing resources and increasing choices, academic librarians must now find the best ways to measure and demonstrate the value of the library to all of their stakeholders, including faculty members, graduate students, undergraduate students, administrators, and funders. Techniques to assess and measure value can also help library decision makers select the products and services that provide the highest return on investment (ROI) to the university community. It is important to measure and convey the value of the academic library; it is also possible to increase the value of the library to the university by carefully refocusing the academic library's products and services. In this presentation I will discuss methods and results from a recently completed study in eight countries that measured the value and ROI of e-journals to the grants process. The Return on Investment (ROI) of the e-journals collection to grant funding ranged from over 15:1 to just under 1:1 in 9 institutions. In addition, many other qualitative and quantitative measures of value are as important as derived measures like ROI. Building on that research study, I am now leading a team that includes the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and several university libraries in a project funded by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services. We are collecting data using on the value of a wide range of library services using several methods for measuring the value of what the university library contributes to the institution and its stakeholders.

Noise Reduction by Filter Improvement in Mixed Noise Image (혼재된 잡음 영상내 필터 개선에 의한 잡음제거)

  • In this paper, we propose an average approximation filter which can effectively remove the noises of the images. The noises include impulse noises, gaussian noises and mixed noises. The algorithm is as follows. First, as a step of noise detection, we find whether the difference between the pixel value and the average value is greater than the threshold value or not after getting the average value that removed the minimum and maximum values in the applied mask. If the pixel value is greater than the threshold value, the pixel value is processed as noise. If it is less than or equal to the threshold value, it is processed as non-noise. Next, as the noise reduction step, we output the approximate value in mask as the pixel value and the average value except the minimum and maximum values of the pixel including the noise. As the result of applying this average approximation filter to the mixed noise images, the approximation filter can reduce the noises effectively more than 0.4[dB] as compared with applying the median filter and the average filter, respectively.

A quantitative assessment method of network information security vulnerability detection risk based on the meta feature system of network security data

  • Because the traditional network information security vulnerability risk assessment method does not set the weight, it is easy for security personnel to fail to evaluate the value of information security vulnerability risk according to the calculation value of network centrality, resulting in poor evaluation effect. Therefore, based on the network security data element feature system, this study designed a quantitative assessment method of network information security vulnerability detection risk under single transmission state. In the case of single transmission state, the multi-dimensional analysis of network information security vulnerability is carried out by using the analysis model. On this basis, the weight is set, and the intrinsic attribute value of information security vulnerability is quantified by using the qualitative method. In order to comprehensively evaluate information security vulnerability, the efficacy coefficient method is used to transform information security vulnerability associated risk, and the information security vulnerability risk value is obtained, so as to realize the quantitative evaluation of network information security vulnerability detection under single transmission state. The calculated values of network centrality of the traditional method and the proposed method are tested respectively, and the evaluation of the two methods is evaluated according to the calculated results. The experimental results show that the proposed method can be used to calculate the network centrality value in the complex information security vulnerability space network, and the output evaluation result has a high signal-to-noise ratio, and the evaluation effect is obviously better than the traditional method.

  • Traffic information provision plays an important role in increasing the efficiency of network operation and in providing convenience for roadway users. As a typical device for disseminating real-time traffic information for collective general public, VMS is a prevalent device nowadays and it is being expanded. However, the actual monetary value of traffic information is not quantified up to now. The previous studies regarding VMS traffic information are mainly focused on the behavioral aspects of road users such as departure time and route choices under traffic information provision conditions. This paper tried to estimate the monetary value of VMS traffic information using discrete choice theory and logit model through the stated preference study(SP). The methodological framework adopted in this paper can also be used in evaluating the monetary value of other traffic information providers including PDA, CNS, and mobile phone.
