Much has been written on Information Systems Planning in the for-profit organisations, but little is known about it in the Not-for-Profit sector, particularly in the Australian context. This paper has attempted to conceptualise the problem of Information Systems planning in the Not-for-Profit organisations. It provides insight into Information Systems Planning practices in Not-for-Profit-Organisations and the problems of current Information Systems Planning practices in Not-for-Profit-Organisations. The contribution of this paper is two folds, theoretically and for practitioners. Theoretically, it has provided a model that enables people to understand why or why not Not-for-Profit-Organisations do or do not conduct Information Systems Planning. Regarding practitioners, the factors identified in this study would help planners, managers and executives to understand the key areas and plan accordingly and for donors they would be able to understand where are their contributions needed the most and be able to follow up and ensure that their donations/contributions are utilised in the right areas hence increase Not-for-Profit-Organisations accountability with regards to planning for Information Systems.

The information revolution is sweeping through the global economy. The strategic significance of the information and information technology have been some what underestimated. Now they are transforming the structure of competition. Information technology must be applied to improve and sustain an organization's competitive advantage. The successful implementation of information technology is dependent on the effectiveness of information systems planning. However, the selection of the right methodology still remains a open question. This paper describes the existing methodologies for information system planning. A complementary approach to strategic information systems planning, which was developed for a steel company, is suggested. The approach attempts to combine Business Systems Planning of IBM and Critical Success Factors Analysis for effective information systems planning. Although this approach is in the experimental stage it looks to be of benefit to large organizations which require information planning for managerial level.

However, it is very difficult to select an appropriate methodology for information systems planning given an organization situation. A contingency model is proposed on the selection of an appropriate approach depending upon the organizational situation. Although the contingency framework is not yet theoretically proved, the approaches suggested here turned out to be of benefit to the cases of the two real world projects studied. These approaches attempt to combine Business Systems Planning of IBM and Critical Success Factors in two different manners to make planning process more efficient and effective.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to design a regional electricity planning model rather than the existing single region ones and verify its usefulness. The regional electricity planning model is to determine both electricity distribution among regions and power plant planning at the same time satisfying regional demands and distribution networks. Design/methodology/approach This study made a regional electricity planning model by integrating power plant planning and electricity distribution among regions. The regional electricity planning model is formulated into a linear programming problem, and coded and run using the OSeMOSYS, one of open source energy systems. Findings According to the empirical analysis result, this study confirmed that the regional electricity planning model proposed in this study deducts the unfairness among regions in view of electricity and green house gas. In addition, the model is expected to be used in evaluating and developing the national policies concerning fine dust and/or green house gas.

A project planning is one of the most important processes that determines success and failure of the project. A pre-project planning is also essential job for information system implementations at the early stage of project planning, especially for management information system like ERP. However, pre-project planning is very difficult, because lots of factors and their relationships should be considered. Pre-project planning of ERP implementation has been done by project manager's own knowledge and experiences. In this article, we propose a system that help project manager to make a pre-project plan of ERP project with case-based reasoning(CBR) framework. The proposed CBR system saves previous cases of ERP pre-project planning in the case base. Then, the system finds the most similar case with the current pre-project planning problem. Project manager can make a pre-project plan by adjusting the most similar case. From the interview with project managers, we collect some field cases of ERP implementation. We organized these cases by using XML(Extensible Markup Language), which is good for representing hierarchical information. XML gives us some flexibilities to correct and maintain cases. We make a prototype system, PPSS(Project Planning Support System) that help project manager to make a pre-project plan of ERP implementations. The object of the system is to support project manager to make a pre-project plan of ERP. We hope the result of the study can be applied to other information systems. Our research would be extended to cover other stages of project planning.

Despite the large and ongoing investments in information systems and technologies, many organizations still suffer from the lack of integration and interoperability of multiple information systems, In order to deal with these enduring problems, a number of government organizations and corporate firms in the United States have developed and maintained IT architectures through enterprise architecture planning. An IT architecture is a decision-making framework for IT planners and developers, establishing guidelines for the individual IT resource owners and users. It provides guidance to those involved in building and maintaining IT systems and infrastructure. Enterprise architecture planning represents a new paradigm of information systems planning in that it addresses the long-term view of the enterprise organization from top-level principles to detailed technology architectures. This paper explores a couple of cases in the successful implementation of IT architectures in both public and private sectors, and proposes a step-by-step methodology for building an effective IT architecture.

본 논문에서는 자동차 운반선의 여러 해상운송계획 중 stowage planning의 최적화를 위한 모형 및 해법을 연구하고자 한다. 이는 향후 연구를 통해 기존에 연구되었던 vessel allocation 및 voyage planning 모형과 함께 자동차 운반선의 통합 해상운송계획 모형을 개발하는 데 활용될 계획이다.

MIS researches involve, in particular, the problems of developing appropriate IS for given MIS environments and lay emphasis on identifying prominant IS characteristics pertaining to the system in issue. This study deals with the IS characteristics for the management task of "planning". It investigates empirically the impacts of IS characteristics, under a set of proposed hypotheses, with particular respect to users' information satisfaction and performance in carrying out the task of planning. Futhermore, it examines whether the IS characteristics have different effects depending on the planning modes on the part of IS users. Based on a group of hypotheses accepted, the IS characteristics for planning decision making are not only proposed according to planning modes: preactive, reactive and proactive, but also classified into six subsystem categories: input, process, ouput, storage, interface and communication. Finally, the implications of the findings are discussed.

In this paper we propose a distribution planning method aiming the use in the real-life situations. The assumed form of the distribution network is arborescence. At every node in the distribution network, orders are placed periodically. At each renewal of planning horizon, demand informations of periods in the horizon are updated. The objective of the problem is to minimize the total cost, which is the sum of holding and backorder costs of all sites during planning horizon. For such a situation, this study addressed an effective distribution plan when demands for demand-sites are provided for a given planning horizon.

Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest in using information technology for competitive advantage. A sustainable advantage is the key to the survival and growth of a firm. The successful implementation of information technology is dependent on efficient information systems planning. But the correct and complete information, requirements for effective information systems planning are frequently very difficult to obtain. In this paper the Critical Success Factors(CSF) method was employed as a means of managerial information requirements analysis for information systems planning in Korea's steel industry. CSFs are one of the few areas of activity that must go well to ensure the success of an organization. This paper addresses the concept and hierarchy of CSF analysis as a methodology in identifying corporate information needs and concludes with the use and benefit of results of CSF analysis.
