정보시스템 아웃소싱 결정요인에 관한 확인적 연구 (A Confirmatory Analysis for Information Systems Outsourcing Determinant factors)

  • 본 연구는 기업의 경쟁전략으로서 관심을 끌고 있는 정보시스템 아웃소싱에 관련한 연구이다. 이 연구에서는 확인적 분석방법에 의하여 정보시스템 아웃소싱 결정요인과 아웃소싱 정도의 관계를 확인하였다. 이 연구의 공헌은 정보시스템 아웃소싱 결정요인을 실증 분석하였다는 데 있다. 이 연구의 결과는 기업의 최고경영자에게 정보시스템 아웃소싱을 합리적으로 결정할 수 있게 하는데 도움을 줄 수 있으며 또한 외부 정보시스템 공급업자에게는 마케팅 전략을 개발시킬 수 있게 한다. 향후 이 연구는 정보시스템 아웃소싱이라는 주제에 대하여 심도 깊은 연구를 하고자 한다.

  • In order to investigate IS(Information Systems) outsourcing cost estimation model preference of firms, this study reviews previous literatures on outsourcing and firm characteristics. The relationships between firm characteristics and IS outsourcing cost estimation model preference are analysed. Four major factors of firms characteristics are found and classified. IS outsourcing cost estimation model with SLA are found to have a strong relationship with organizational culture. Future research will be needed to verify the result of this exploratory study.

  • This paper tests whether there are any differences in perceived effectiveness according to the range of outsourcing, and we tried to identify the reasons if any. By executing a field survey and T-test on composite success measure value of two types (integrated outsourcing type and backend outsourcing type), we testified that the perceived effectiveness of the two types in outsourcing was not different. Discussion fo the stududy result followed. First, 'integrated outsourcing type' does not generate very excellent performance. Second, so far the characteristics of 'integrated outsourcing type' such as strategic management of IS, activating end-user computing(EUC), and making the strategic partnership with vendors and so on have not been successfully utilized as expected.

Soft Systems are Ubiquitous-Defenses are Rare: A Case for Contingent Outsourcing of Patch Management

  • Computer attacks on vulnerable software are ubiquitous. Today's attacks on client PCs can be used to create armies of zombie computers that are capable of wide reach attacks on high profile businesses and governments. The simple act of patching software vulnerabilities will certainly mitigate this problem, but patching has its own set of problems. Further, it is frequently the case that patches which are available to mitigate vulnerabilities are not being made on a timely basis and sometimes are not being made at all. One solution to the patch management dilemma is outsourcing. This paper notes that outsourcing is not a carte blanche decision that can be made based on dollars, but rather that a contingency decision matrix can provide guidance on outsourcing solutions for patch management and other security components as well. The matrix recognizes that IS staff expertise and employee security awareness are two important factors in the outsourcing decision.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 인적자원능력이 정보시스템 아웃소싱 성공에 미치는 영향에 있어서 IT 거버넌스의 매개적 변수효과 모형을 개발하고 검증하는 것이다. 본 연구를 위해 설문방법을 이용하였고, 분석을 위한 데이터는 연매출 100억이상 기업을 대상으로 수집한 총 108개의 데이터를 적용하였다 그리고 자료의 분석은 구조방정식모형을 사용하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 인적자원능력은 정보시스템 아웃소싱 성공에 직접적인 영향을 미치기 보다는, IT 거버넌스를 매개로하여 영향을 미치는 것이 더 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째 인적자원능력 중에서 준비능력과 관계능력이 IT 거버넌스에 영향을 미치는 주요 변수인 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 정보시스템 아웃소싱 분야에서의 IT 거버넌스의 역할을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

  • Recently, the role of IT service providers has been enlarged from managing a single function or system to reconstructing entire information management processes in new ways to contribute to shareholder value across the enterprise. This movement toward extensive and complex outsourcing agreements has been driven by the assumption that outsourcing information technology functions is a reliable approach to maximizing resource productivity. Hiring external IT service providers to manage part or all of its information-related services helps a firm focus on its core business and provides better services to its clients, thus obtaining sustainable competitive advantage. This practice of focusing on the strategic aspect of outsourcing is referred to as strategic sourcing where the focus is capability sourcing, not procurement. Given the importance of the strategic outsourcing, however, to our knowledge, there is little empirical research on the relationship between the strategic outsourcing orientation and outsourcing performance. Moreover, there is little research on the factor that makes the strategic outsourcing effective. This study is designed to investigate the relationship between strategic IT outsourcing orientation and IT outsourcing performance and the process through which strategic IT outsourcing orientation influences outsourcing performance, Based on the framework of strategic orientation-performance and core competence based management, this study first identifies core competency orientation as a proper strategic orientation pertinent to IT outsourcing and IT outsourcing process management capability as the mediator to affect IT outsourcing performance. The proposed research model is then tested with a sample of 200 firms. The findings of this study may contribute to the literature in two ways. First, it draws on the strategic orientation - performance framework in developing its research model so that it can provide a new perspective to the well studied phenomena. This perspective allows practitioners and researchers to look at outsourcing from an angle that emphasizes the strategic decision making to outsource its IT functions. Second, by separating the concept of strategic orientation and outsourcing process management capability, this study provides practices with insight into how the strategic orientation can work effectively to achieve an expected result. In addition, the current study provides a basis for future studies that examine the factors affecting IT outsourcing performance with more controllable factors such as IT outsourcing process management capability rather than external hard-to-control factors including trust and relationship management. This study investigates the major factors that determine IT outsourcing success. Based on strategic orientation and core competency theories, we develop the proposed research model to investigate the relationship between core competency orientation and IT outsourcing performance and the mediating role of IT outsourcing process management capability on IT outsourcing performance. The model consists of two independent variables (core-competency-orientation and IT outsourcing process management capability), and two dependent variables (outsourced task complexity and IT outsourcing performance). Comprehensive data collection was conducted through an outsourcing association. The survey data were analyzed using a structural analysis method. IT outsourcing process management capability was found to mediate the effect of core competency orientation on both outsourced task complexity and IT outsourcing performance. Further analysis and findings are discussed.

응용시스템 운영비용 산정을 위한 업종중심 모델 개발 (Developing an Industry-Specific Application Systems Operation Cost Estimation Model)

  • 정보시스템 아웃소싱이 활성화되면서 아웃소싱 가치와 가격에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 정보시스템 아웃 소싱은 개발 아웃소싱과 운영 아웃소싱으로 나눌 수 있다. 운영 아웃소싱 비용에 대한 연구는 최근에 시작되어 지속적인 추가 연구가 필요하다. 운영 아웃소싱 유형 중 대표적인 유형이 응용시스템 운영 아웃소싱(applicationsystems outsourcing)인데, 서비스 수준에 대한 복잡한 판단이 필요하기 때문에 정교한 비용산정 모형이 요구된다. 기존 연구에서는 여러 업종의 데이터를 수집하여 비용산정 모형을 구축하였기 때문에 업종의 고유한 특성을 반영하지 못하였으며, 따라서 산정 비용의 정확성이 높지 않다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 정보시스템의 중요성이 매우 높은 산업분야 중의 하나인 증권업종과 의료업종의 응용시스템 아웃소싱 비용 산정 모형을 도출한다. 업종의 특성을 반영하여 서비스 수준을 결정하는 요소를 정의하고, 증권업종의 비용 모델을 먼저 도출하였다. 의료업종과 증권업종이 서로 차별화되는지를 분석하였으며, 의료업종의 별도 비용 모델을 구축하여 업종간의 비용모델 차이가 존재함을 보였다.

정보시스템 아웃소싱 관계에서 조직간 통제에 관한 연구 : 이론구축을 위한 사례연구 (The Study on the Inter-Organizational Control of IS Outsourcing Relationship : Building Theory from Case Study)

  • Recently, Information systems (IS) outsourcing has been becoming a viable strategic alternative in the management of information systems. Accordingly, the demand of research in practice has been changed from how to decide IS outsourcing to how to manage IS outsourcing. However, there is little known about the management of IS outsourcing in existing literature. Moreover, the existing studies suggest conflicting solutions in accordance with their own perspectives : competitive relationship vs. cooperative relationship. The purpose of this study is to address this conflicting result, and consequently to enhance an understanding of IS outsourcing management by introducing the concept of interorganizational control. To meet this purpose, this study adopts Lee(2003)'s integrative model of IS outsourcing management based on the existing literature from different management disciplines and different perspectives, and then conducts four case studies. The result reveals that users, as well as IS manager, play a critical role in controlling IS outsourcing. Moreover, they implement a portfolio of control modes including both informal and formal modes. The result also suggests that the choice of particular control mechanism depends on client, supplier, task, and relationship characteristics.

  • This study investigates the effect of conflict resolution methods on the IS outsourcing performance. A survey of 207 IS oursourcing relationship of U.S. firms indicates that(1) constructive/proactive methods, such as joint problem solving, is positively related to the success of IS outsourcing relationships, and that (2) destructive/passive methods, such as persuasion, smoothing/avoiding, domination, and use of harsh words are negatively related to the success of IS outsourcing relationships. The findings suggest that the manner in which conflict is resolved can be productive or destructive for the IS outsourcing performance.

  • 본 본 연구는 중규모 기업의 AIS시스템 아웃소싱이 업무성과와 시스템성과에 나타나는 영향관계를 탐색하고자 하였다. 또한 AIS의 아웃소싱 결과를 통해 효율적인 운영방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 중규모의 정보화 기업을 중심으로 실무부서와 관리부서 그리고 시스템운영부서를 중심으로 AIS의 현황을 분석하여 실증분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구결과를 요약하면 첫째로, 중규모의 기업에서 AIS 아웃소싱은 초기 회계모듈만 도입 운영하는 경우 업무성과가 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, AIS의 아웃소싱에서 통합모듈을 통해 운영하는 경우 시스템에 대한 성과는 매우 높은 것으로 나타났다. 통합운용에 따른 상승효과로 분석된다. 본 연구의 결과는 향후 중소규모 제조업의 AIS아웃소싱 방법 및 구축 방향을 제시해 줄 것으로 기대된다.
