  • Based on the real-time monitoring by remote sensing and dynamic management by GIS on agricultural land and water resources in arid area, we solved the practicability and popularization of small-scale spatial information service system. Through demonstration, the standards of spatial information service database of agricultural land and water resources is set up, and the agricultural land and water resources management system in Shehezi City of Xinjiang Autonomy is established, which provides periodically the spatial information services needed by agricultural production to support for sustainable development in arid area.

  • To protect information resources, many organizations including private corporate and government employ integrated information security systems which provide the functions of intrusion detection, firewall, and virus vaccine. So, in order to develop a reliable integrated information security system during the development life cycle, the managers in charge of the development of the system must effectively distribute the development resources to the quality factors of an integrated information security system. This study suggests a distribution methodology that minimizes the total cost with satisfying the minimum quality level of an integrated information security system by appropriately assigning development resources to quality factors considered. To achieve this goal, we identify quality factors of an integrated information system and then measure the relative weights among the quality factors using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The suggested distribution methodology makes it possible to search an optimal solution which minimizes the total cost with satisfying the required quality levels of processes by assigning development resources to quality factors during the development life cycle.

  • In this study, the author examined medical information management research trends in abroad and Korea from the perspectives of library and information science. LISA was used to collect research data in abroad from 2007 to 2010 (a total of 225 research articles). Korean studies were investigated using DBPIA to compare research trends. Content analysis results based on subject category show that research in abroad increased consistently and electronic resources and collection-related subjects were frequently studied. In Korea, the electronic resources and collection-related research proportion was also high, and much research was done in the areas of bibliometrics. However, medical information management researches did not increase in Korea between 2000 and 2010.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of information resources of the humanities scholars in Korea and suggest the strategic planning of academic library and information services to serve their needs. To collect data, a mail survey was conducted during the period of November 2007 through January 2008. Out of 799 humanities scholars sampled from 25 universities, 132 responded with the completion rate of 16%. Major findings in this study are as follows: First, the majority of the humanities scholars distribute their time equally to research and education, and conduct independent research. Second, they still largely depend on print resources, including scholarly journals, books, and manuscripts for getting information, while using some online information resource mostly in text such as electronic documents and journals. They expect that the frequency of using such print resources would not decline much, but the use of online resources could definitely increase in the next five years. Some variances in the behavior were observed among the groups of scholars according to their research experiences. It is suggested that academic libraries (1) conduct more active outreach, (2) prioritize between traditional and electronic resources, (3) plan information literacy education for traditional resources.

  • Due to the evolution of computer systems and the proliferation of Internet, numerous information resources have been constructed. The deluge of information makes the need to integrate information, which are distributed on the internet and are handled in heterogeneous systems. Recently, most of the XML -based information integration systems use XML DTD(Document Type Definition) for describing integrated global schema. However, DTD has some limitations in modeling local information resources such as datatypes. Although W3C's XML Schema is more flexible and powerful than XML DTD in specifying integrated global schema, it has more complex problems in resolving conflicts than using DTD. In this paper, we provide a taxonomy of conflict problems in integration information resources using XML Schema, and propose conflict resolution mechanism using XQuery.

  • Internet is having the most significant impact on library and information services. This article describes introduction of Internet and the value-added information services using Internet resources. As a current awareness service using E-mail, Zephyr of the University of Washington, BM-SwetScan of the Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, and JContent of the KAIST are introduced. As a web-based integrated system, HarperSource, Ei Village, IPL, and ETLARS are introduced. Locating, filtering, evaluating, and organizing Internet information resources remains a main challenge.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the accessibility of web resources contained in the references section of journal articles.1 was identified a total of 1,377 web citations for a major journal in information science over a ten year period. The results show that the accessible ratio of domestic web resources was at 40% and the ratio of foreign web resources about 50%. The accessible ratio of domain type web resources was shown 58% while the same ratio for file type web resources was 45%. This low accessibility of we resources in references poses threat to the overall value of journal articles.

  • The present study examines the impact of value co-creation on satisfaction and intention to adopt of e-resources among users. Four components of the DART model have been adopted to describe value co-creation. These components are dialogue, access, risk-assessment, and transparency. Ph.D. scholars and faculty members from National Capital Region, India, were requested to respond on a five-point Likert scale. A total of 220 responses were collected with the help of a structured questionnaire from respondents of the top 50 business schools according to National Institute Ranking Framework. These responses have been analysed by means of structured equation modelling on Adanco 2.2 software. Findings of the study reported the insignificant impact of access and risk-assessment, and positive impact of dialogue and transparency on satisfaction. Further, satisfaction has been identified, creating significant impact on adoption of e-resources. Such findings reflect the real picture of customer experience with respect to their role in co-creation of e-resources. Respondents have conveyed their dissatisfaction with the co-creation process of e-resources, as companies do not provide all the information and access to their customers beforehand. Consequently, customers fail to make informed decisions and also find themselves unable to show trust in the service providers of e-resources.

  • The issue of the cataloging the electronic resources have been vigorously presented recently because of many problems involved in it. The study aims to examine the various formats of the electronic resources mainly centering around the internet as well as the need for cooperative cataloging of the resources. In addition, the study attempts to analyse the CORC of OCLC and the PCC of LC. Based on these, the cooperative cataloging system for online electronic resources in Korea is suggested.
