  • Information security and preservation of customer's data privacy are key factors for further wide spread adoption of microgrid (MG) technology. However, strong coupling between the operation cost of multi-microgrid (MMG) system and privacy of customer data makes it more challenging. A nested energy management system (EMS) has been proposed in this paper. The surplus/shortage information from the inner level MGs is included in processing the optimal operation of outer level MGs. This type of optimization ensures a layered privacy-preservation to customer at each MG level. The proposed EMS architecture is a better trade-off architecture between the operation cost of the MMG system and customer privacy-preservation at each level of MG.

  • The development of the Preservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies (PREMIS) aims to preserve practices beyond the limits of the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) conceptual framework; however, the examples and guidelines on connecting each metadata element to the actual data are unclear, making the design of preservation metadata in real digital archives difficult. Hence, this study investigates actual PREMIS 3.0-based preservation metadata management cases, preserves digital resources in various digital archive environments, and derives implications for the implementation and design of preservation metadata. Based on the analysis, the study proposes preservation metadata elements that can be considered when designing preservation metadata for digital archives according to PREMIS 3.0 application profile guidelines.

  • Speckle noise reduction for ultrasound CT image using morphological adaptive median filtering based on edge preservation is presented in this paper. Speckle noise is multiplicative feature and causes ultrasound image to degrade widely from transducer. An input image is classified into edge region and homogeneous region in preprocessing. The speckle is reduced by morphological operation on the 2D gray scale by using convolution and correlation, and edges are preserved. The adaptive median is processed to reduce an impulse noise. As the result the proposed method enhances the image to about 20% in comparison with Winer filter by Edge Preservation Index and PSNR.

  • Fertility preservation plays a central role in cancer care since an increasingly large number of cancer patients are surviving as a result of improvements in diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Physicians who take part in the initial diagnosis and management of gynecologic cancer should understand the importance of fertility preservation. Since indications for fertility preservation are limited to early-stage gynecologic cancer, a surgeon must carefully consider each indication. Before performing fertility-sparing surgery, health professionals should compare its oncologic and pregnancy outcomes with those of other standard treatments. Individualized treatment strategies should be delivered depending on the patient's situation, and physicians should provide timely information and appropriate counseling.

  • Training for mothers and children first included information on water, ground, and air pollution, saving energy, and reducing trash. In the second phase, the family followed steps outlined in an environmental preservation guidebook. The experiment was of 16 weeks duration, conducted with 120 subjects, comprised of sixty 4-year-old children and their mothers. Measures included environmental preservation knowledge and the actual practice of environmental preservation on the part of the subjects. Mothers performed self-evaluations while teachers measured the children. SPSS was used for data collection and analysis. The results of this study indicate that the program increased perceptions on environmental preservation and the actual practice of the experimental group. The program application also resulted in meaningful co-relationships between perceptions and practice and between mothers and their children.

  • The purpose of this research is to provide suggestions to develop a cooperative preservation and utilization program suitable for domestic circumstances. To accomplish the purpose of this research, an in-depth study was conducted parallel to surveys and focus group interviews. The study found that a high number of KESLI members recognizes the necessity of the cooperative preservation and utilization of print journals. The study also provides suggestions for the successful development and operation of the cooperative preservation center for print journals-the development of councils, the ownership of journals, the scope of journals to be collected, and the form of the national preservation center. The results of the study will be utilized as the model for the cooperative preservation and utilization of print journals suitable for Korean circumstances.

  • In this study, we aimed to examine the feasibility of establishing a shared preservation center with a focus on the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education. We conducted surveys to assess the current situation and gather perceptions. The research findings revealed the following: Firstly, the surveyed school libraries were already experiencing extreme levels of book saturation, necessitating the management of book saturation and proper book quantity. Secondly, very few libraries had the facilities required for book preservation. Thirdly, the research showed that in 78% of school libraries, book saturation already exceeded 75%, leading to a rapid increase in discarded books each year. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the systematic expansion of a shared preservation center. Moreover, given the difficulty of individual libraries in establishing facilities for preservation, valuable materials such as rare books and specialized resources should be transferred to a shared preservation center. Additionally, policies and regulations related to material preservation are deemed necessary.

  • Because sensor nodes have limited resources in wireless sensor networks, data aggregation can efficiently reduce communication overhead and extend the network lifetime. Although many existing methods are particularly useful for data aggregation applications, they incur unbalanced communication cost and waste lots of sensors' energy. In this paper, we propose a privacy-preserving, energy-saving data aggregation scheme (EBPP). Our method can efficiently reduce the communication cost and provide privacy preservation to protect useful information. Meanwhile, the balanced energy of the nodes can extend the network lifetime in our scheme. Through many simulation experiments, we use several performance criteria to evaluate the method. According to the simulation and analysis results, this method can more effectively balance energy dissipation and provide privacy preservation compared to the existing schemes.

  • This research seeks to develop preservation metadata and to provide guidelines to apply PREMIS-METS decisions in a METS profile in the National Library of Korea. The process of developing metadata is divided into three steps, that is, analysis of metadata schema in other digital preservation initiatives, analysis of resources and preservation policies, and interviews with librarians in the National Library of Korea. A metadata schema consists of four main entities - object, event, agent, and rights. The study also provides a cataloging example as well as principles using PREMIS-METS for archiving digital resources. The schema has values to manage digital resources effectively and efficiently in the National Library of Korea.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a collaborative print journal preservation model for the medical libraries in Korea. After reviewing previous studies and advanced preservation practices, a survey was administered to the members of the Korean Medical Library Association to collect data about the present states of journal weeding and storage space as well as their needs and preferences for collaborative preservation. Based on the analysis, a hybrid model, consisting of centralized and distributed archives, is proposed with MEDLIS as infra structure. Detailed characteristics and three phases of implement strategies are described. Finally, recommendations for the Korean Medical Library Association to the successful substantiation are suggested.
