  • Define a designated eye position (DEP) for the 3D displays is a critical issue. It shows the system performance without content issue. We use luminance meter to capture these optical characteristic and discuss between one point measurement, two points measurement and three points measurement situation.

  • Excimer-laser-based crystallization is ideallysuited for forming crystalline Si films on glass substrates for use in active-matrix displays. In this paper, we will report on recent and significant technical advances in light sources and beam delivery systems targeted at enabling ultra-uniform mura-free low-temperature polycrystalline silicon active-matrix backplanes while simultaneously lowering production costs and increasing throughput.

  • The organic deposition chamber has been developed using belt source evaporation techniques for the first time. The deposition chamber is consisted of the belt source, organic vapor source, and the mask alignment assembly. The rollers operate for the thin metal belt to continuously move with the automatic tension control. It has been proved for the belt source evaporation easy to operate and the alignment of the substrate/shadow mask becomes so simple to use in AMOLED manufacturing industry.

  • Transistor slicing refers to the use of multiple smaller transistors in implementing a large MOS transistor. What is special about transistor slicing is that it can reduce the effects of device non-uniformity introduced during the fabrication process. The paper presents the idea of transistor slicing and analyzes the benefits of using transistor slicing in the context of Poly-Si TFT-LCD driving.

  • We report simple techniques to manufacture low-powered, high-resolution, reflective cholesteric displays using flexible plastic substrates. We use wax transfer printing to replace photo-lithography and incorporate polymer walls to increase the mechanical strength and lifetime of the displays. These printing methods can easily be adapted to roll-to-roll production.

  • We discuss main techniques to improve legibility of electroluminescent displays. Emphasis is placed on use of destructive optical interference to cancel ambient light reflected from the back electrode of the device. Basic optical principles and material composition of the optical interference contrast-enhancing stack (CES) are presented. We also describe the improved human factors of electroluminescent devices assisted with a CES. Achromatic contrast is the most important contributor to display's legibility. In some conditions color contrast may also be important. Contributing to both luminance and color contrast enhancement, the contrast-enhancing stack may play an important role in various display applications.

  • We suggest the use of a self-assembled ultra thin organic film that can suppress the hydration of MgO protective layer in AC-PDP. We analyzed the degree of hydration of MgO layer in AC-PDP by XPS when exposed to air after vacuum deposition which proved the effectiveness of the hydration prevention. We also made PDP test panels to demonstrate the improvement in the luminance and luminous efficiency when the hydration of MgO surface is suppressed by the use of self-assembled ultra thin organic film.

  • Electrochromic displays offer the possibility of providing high brightness in reflective mode due to the fact that no polarization of the incident or reflected light is required. The use of appropriately roughened reflective layers can enable the diffuse or Lambertian reflection of light. truly imitating the optical nature of paper as a reading medium. Furthermore, the use of an electrochromic system, essentially an electrochemical device, allows for the integration of charge storage layers, endowing such devices with an on-state memory and associated low power consumption. In this paper we describe the $NanoChromics^{TM}$ system and overview the several strategies employed towards the migration of this technology to flexible display formats.
