  • Zizyphus jujube is a plant in the buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae) that has been the subject of research into antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties of its fruit and seed. However, few studies have investigated its leaves. In this study, the anti-inflammatory activity of ZJL (an extract of Z. jujube leaf) was evaluated to verify its potential as an anti-inflammatory agent and SARS-CoV-2 medicine, using nitric oxide (NO) assay, RT-PCR, SDSPAGE, Western blotting, and UHPLC/TOFHRMS analysis. We found that ZJL suppresed pro-inflammatory mediators such as NO, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 cells. ZJL acted by inhibiting NF-KB and MAPK signaling pathway activity. We also confirmed that ZJL contains a phenol compound and flavonoids with anti-inflammatory activity such as trehalose, maleate, epigallocatechin, hyperoside, catechin, 3-O-coumaroylquinic acid, rhoifolin, gossypin, kaempferol 3-neohesperidoside, rutin, myricitrin, guaiaverin, quercitrin, quercetin, ursolic acid, and pheophorbide a. These findings suggest that ZJL may have great potential for the development of anti-inflammatory drugs and vaccines via inhibition of NF-κB and MAPK signaling in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells.

  • The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease is increasing rapidly in Korea and one quarter of the new patients present in childhood. Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are incurable conditions associated with significant morbidity, therefore the focus of treatment in children should be to reduce or eliminate symptoms, optimize nutritional status and growth, prevent complications. This review will deal with the evidence supporting the treatments currently used in children with inflammatory bowel disease.

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disease mainly affecting the gastrointestinal tract. The incidence of the disease is rapidly increasing worldwide, and a number of patients are diagnosed during their childhood or adolescence. Aside from controlling the gastrointestinal symptoms, nutritional aspects such as growth, bone mineral density, anemia, micronutrient deficiency, hair loss, and diet should also be closely monitored and managed by the pediatric IBD team especially since the patients are in the development phase.

  • Many diselenide compounds are used as antioxidants, enzyme inhibitors and cytokine induc-ers. Three new diselenide compounds, bis-(2-hydroxyphenyl) diselenide, bis-(3-hydroxyphe-nyl) diselenide and bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl) diselenide were designed and synthesized as anti-inflammatory agent. All of them were found to have strong in vitro activity in anti-inflammatory assays.

  • Lonicera japonica is widely distributed in Southeast Asia and has been traditionally used as an anti - inflammatory, diuretic, abscessic, antipyretic, and antidotic agent. Lonicera japonica was investigated for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects using several in vivo models. SKLJI was purified for i.v. injection from Lonicera japonica as a potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic fraction, after activity-guided fractionation study. (omitted)

  • In the present study Momordica dioica fruit pulp was successively extracted with hexane and methanol. To the concentrated methanolic extract ethyl acetate was added and ethyl acetate soluble portion was separated. Both hexane extract (HE) and ethyl acetate soluble portion (EASP) of methanolic extract was vacuum dried to yield the respective HE and EASP. HE and EASP were evaluated for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in a dose of 50 and 100 mg/kg in mice and rats. Both HE and EASP significant exhibited analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities when compare to standard drug.

  • The present study aims to detect the rare flavonoids isolated from the leaves of Persicaria glabra. The known flavonoids: quercetin (1), isorhamnetin (2), avicularin (3) and new one isorhamnetin-3-O-α-L-(6''-E-p-coumaroyl)-rhamnoside (4) were identified by HPLC, UV, IR and NMR. P. glabra has used traditionally for its analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic properties. To find out the ingredients responsible for the efficiency of this plant, we have used to study the anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory activities of different extracts.

  • In the present investigation, the anti-inflammatory activity of glycyrrhetic acid derivatives (abbreviated as AMKOA, 28-OMKOA, 30-OMKOA) was compared with hydrocortisone and sodium salicylate by a new anti-inflammatory test, utilizing the chorio-allantoic membrane of the chick embryo, which is outstandingly suitable for large scale screening of new compounds. The anti-inflammatory activity of the glycyrrhetic acid derivatives was similar to hydrocortisone and superior to sodium salicylate.

  • It was reported that the potency of TMMC derivatives was related to the presence of the 2'-hydroxy group on the A ring. Also, 4-dimethylamino group on the B ring lowered the anti-inflammatory potency of the chalcones. We synthesized various derivatives of 2'-hydroxy chalcones having other substituents on B ring. The synthetic derivatives showed the more potent anti-inflammatory effect, comparable to that of the TMMC derivatives reported previously.
