  • We aimed to compare resection and survival outcomes of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and immediate surgery in patients with resectable pancreatic cancer (RPC) or borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC). In compliance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement standards, a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted. Random effects modeling was applied to calculate pooled outcome data. Likelihood of type 1 or 2 errors in the meta-analysis model was assessed by trial sequential analysis. A total of 400 patients from four RCTs were included. When RPC and BRPC were analyzed together, neoadjuvant CRT resulted in a higher R0 resection rate (risk ratio [RR]: 1.55, p = 0.004), longer overall survival (mean difference [MD]: 3.75 years, p = 0.009) but lower overall resection rate (RR: 0.83, p = 0.008) compared with immediate surgery. When RPC and BRPC were analyzed separately, neoadjuvant CRT improved R0 resection rate (RR: 3.72, p = 0.004) and overall survival (MD: 6.64, p = 0.004) of patients with BRPC. However, it did not improve R0 resection rate (RR: 1.18, p = 0.13) or overall survival (MD: 0.94, p = 0.57) of patients with RPC. Neoadjuvant CRT might be beneficial for patients with BRPC, but not for patients with RPC. Nevertheless, the best available evidence does not include contemporary chemotherapy regimens. Patients with RPC and those with BRPC should not be combined in the same cohort in future studies.

  • The author studied skin reactions and their incidences among 100 dental students and dental nurses to 2% Lidocaine HC1, 3% H₂O₂, Euginol, 5% Sodium Hypochlorite, Dycal and Adhesive plaster by means of Patch test. Following are the results of the study. 1. Eighty six cases out of 100 revealed slight response to 1 or 2 allergens. 2. 2% Lidocaine HC1 showed 1 case, 3% H₂O₂cases, Euginol 2 cases, 5% Sodium Hypochlorite 74 cases, Dycal 1 case Adhesive plaster 8 cases. 3. 5% Sodium Hypochlorite was the most influential to skin. 32 cases showed grade 1+, 20 cases showed grade 2++, 16 cases showed grade 3+++, 6 cases showed grade 4++++,

  • The author have analysed the patients of Dept. of prosthodontics in the Infirmary, College of Dentistry, S.N.U., by age and sex, month and year. The results are as follows; 1. 1958 to 1962, 1730 patients were visited. And male patients are superior in number by the ratio 51.38% (889) : 48.61% (841) 2. The age group of 21-30 are most superior in number and it occupied perage, the patients are decreased by the number. 3. The number of patients are rare in March and in 1962 for 5 years. 4. characteristics of educational clinic are evident, for example; summer and winter vacation, term and curriculum etc. 5. It is suggested that dental treatments are related to political and economical current, and social problems.

  • The authors had studied the oral environmental changes by salivary salivary pH, amount, periodontal Index in patient with active pulmonary tuberculosis patients. Among the subjects, The experimental group was consisted of 100 patients (50 males and 50 females) of 20-29 years and 100 persons of control group (50 males and 50 females) of 20-29 years. The measurement of salivary amount was performed with wide mouthed plastic (2 Inches) bottle for avoidance of Ionization of SiO2 by using of glass bottle and salivary pH was checked by pH meter 27 radiometer Copenhagen. The results are as follows : 1. The slivary pH does not appear to be characteristic of tuberculous paticents. 2. The obtained salivary amount indicated no significant to the tuberculous patients as compared to the obtained supposedely wealthg individuals. 3. The Russel Index wasfound higher and there had found more periodontal involvement(3 times than normal) in the experimental group.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate a possible occlusal contributing factor on the pathogenesis of temporomandibular joint sound by a new computer aided method for analysis of occlusal contact. 20 subjects without temporomandibular joint sound as control group and 20 subjects with temporomandibular joint sound as experimental group in the TMJ clinic, dental infirmary, School of Dentistry, Chosun University were selected so as to investigate the distribution and intensity of the bilateral occlusal contacts on silicone rubber bites in habitual intercusal position through a computer aided system. The following results were obtained : 1. The distribution and intensity of the occlusal contact could be analyzed and expressed as color density value per levels by this computer aided method. 2. There was not statistical significance between control and experimental group in total occlusal contacts. 3. There was statistical significance between control and experimental group In the total difference of right and left occlusal contacts.(P<0.05).

  • The authors have studied histopathologically, based with symptoms, on 51 aged woman who treated in infirmary hospital of dental college of Seoul National University. The results are as follows: 1. Symptoms of patient were swelling of lower left mandible, gingival enlargement, ulceration and severe bleeding. 2. We observed characteristic features on the blood test such as decreased leukocytes with severe decrease of granular leuckocytes and sudden increase of lymphocytes. 3. On the histopathological studies, we observed severe destruction of gingival tissue with few granular leukocytic infiltration, but displaced with massive lymphochtic infiltration.

  • Accurate lymph node staging of lung cancer is crucial in determining optimal treatment plans and predicting patient outcome. Currently used lymph node maps have been reconciled to the internationally accepted International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) map published in the seventh edition of TNM classification system of malignant tumours. This article provides computed tomographic illustrations of the IASLC nodal map, to facilitate its application in day-to-day clinical practice in order to increase the appropriate classification in lung cancer staging.

  • The authors selected fifty children aged 2 to 4 years who had normal occlusion from the patients admitted at the Pedodontic Department in the Infirmary of Dental College, S.N.U. Study casts were taken and observed on the primate spaces and terminal planes which are characteristics of primary dentition. The results were as follows: 1. The percentages of terminal planes were 56%±7.02 in mesial step type, 38.0%±6.86 in straight step type, 6.0%±3.36 in distal step type, respectively. 2. The percentages of primate space were 80%±5.09 in maxillary dental arch and 5.0%±7.06 in mandibular dental arch. 3. The percentage of mesial step type in korean children was higher in comparison with that in foreign children and the percentage of the primate space was about the same in korean & foreign children.
