The operation performance of sewer rehabilitation projects conducted with Build-Transfer- Lease contract in Korea will be evaluated using the index of infiltration and inflow (I/I). Though I/I obtained at the fourth year should be initially evaluated based on the I/I values observed for the previous three years after the completion of sewer construction, the concrete methodology have not been proposed to rely on the so called 'performance evaluation committee'. This study suggests two statistical methodology to evaluate the I/I performance; the confidence interval method and the hypothesis-testing method. Assumed ten I/I values in each year for 20 years are used in this study. Two cases are analyzed and compared; case I to use as control data all I/I values for all years obtained before the evaluation year and case II to use I/I values for only 3 years before the evaluation year. As a result, case II tends to have relatively higher scores than case I, reflecting the low mean I/I values at the initial years.
This study was conducted to provide a basic information for the establishment of operation and treatment processes in sewer system of Nakdong river basin to minimize the overall pollutants loading to water body. Sewage flowrates were regularly measured and monitored at various sampling points of newly-built separated sewer system located in G City GA sites. To assess the inflow sewage flowrate, various calculating methods such as water-use evaluation, average-minimum daily flow quality evaluation, minimum daily flow evaluation, night water-use evaluation were used. Average I/Is were calculated except water-use evaluation. Average I/Is were found to be 6.5 $m^{3}/d$, 3.5 $m^{3}/d$, 7.7 $m^{3}/d$ at GA-1, GA-2, GA-3 points respectively. I/I ratios of three areas were found to be 4.8 %, 2.0 % and 2.7 % respectively and were obviously lower than those of the other separated sewer systems as shown in the previous studies.

The increasing effect of urbanization has been more apparent through flooding and downstream water quality especially from heavy rainfalls. In response, stormwater runoff management solutions have focused on runoff volume reduction and treatment through infiltration. However, there are areas with low infiltration soils or are experiencing more dry days and even drought. In this study, a lab-scale infiltration system was used to compare the applicability of two types of soil as base layer in gravel-filled infiltration systems with emphasis on runoff capture and suspended solids removal. The two types of soils used were sandy soil representing a high infiltration system and clayey soil representing a low infiltration system. Findings showed that infiltration rates increased with the water depth above the gravel-soil interface indicating that the available depth for water storage affects this parameter. Runoff capture in the high infiltration system is more affected by rainfall depth and inflow rates as compared to that in the low infiltration system. Based on runoff capture and pollutant removal analysis, a media depth of at least 0.4 m for high infiltration systems and 1 m for low infiltration systems is required to capture and treat a 10-mm rainfall in Korea. A maximum infiltration rate of 200 mm/h was also found to be ideal to provide enough retention time for pollutant removal. Moreover, it was revealed that low infiltration systems are more susceptible to horizontal flows and that the length of the structure may be more critical that the depth in this condition.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of a modified filtration system treating non-point source (NPS) pollutants. The developed Best Management Practice (BMP) technology was designed based on the geographical and climatic characteristics of the site. A lab-scale test experiment was conducted using three different hydraulic loading rates representing the first flush flow, average flow and overflow conditions during a rainfall event. Water quality analysis was performed on the water samples taken at the inflow, outflow and infiltration during the test experiment of the lab-scale BMP. Also, the water and mass balance at different hydraulic loading rates was determined. Results from the lab-scale test experiment showed that the lab-scale BMP had a high removal efficiency of 80-90% for all NPS pollutants. The overflow test condition obtained the lowest removal efficiency among the hydraulic loading rates because it gave less opportunity for the pollutants to be filtered and retained inside system. The infiltration ratio was approximately 1 % of the inflow and outflow. Increasing the infiltration ratio requires technical approach of soil amendment where the BMP is installed.
Infiltration facilities are effective instruments to mitigate flood and can increase base runoff in urban watersheds. In order to analyze effects of infiltration trenches physical model experiments were conducted. The physical model facility consists of two soil tanks, artificial rainfall generators, tensiometers, and piezometers. The experiment was conducted by nine times and each case differed in rainfall intensity, rainfall duration and the type of ground surface. Measured quantities in the experiments are as follows: surface runoff, subsurface runoff, trench pipe runoff, groundwater level, water content, etc. The following resulted from the model experiment: The volume of subsurface runoff at trench watershed was maximum 78.3% compared with rainfall. This value is bigger than that of ordinary rate of subsurface runoff, and shows a groundwater recharge effect of trench. The time of runoff passing through the trench became earlier and the volume of runoff became larger with the increase of inflow into the trench, while trench exfiltration into ground became relatively smaller. The results of this study presented above show that infiltration trenches are effective instruments to increase base runoff during dry periods.
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to improve quality for water infiltration to FCISA during military aircraft operation. Methods: A series of troubleshooting studies were conducted to identify the root cause of the water infiltration and reproduce the defects through various simulation tests. And design improvement measures were derived, and countermeasures were taken to prevent recurrence of moisture inflow defects. Conclusion: FCISA operates a very important role in the operation of military aircraft, and defects due to water infiltration are very fatal to flight safety. In this study, the root cause was identified and the design improvement to prevent recurrence was carried out through the failure investigation performed in this study, and the FCISA was improved so that the flight safety was not affected. The results of this study will be valuable back data that can be reflected in the design process through Lessons-Learned in the design phase of the aircraft that will be developed in the future.

This study analyzed the characteristics of sewer flow and its water quality, and investigated changes in the characteristics in three areas where the sewer rehabilitation projects have been carried out. In S1 area, the patterns of the flow became regular and the range of the fluctuation decreased after the sewer rehabilitation. The flow and its BOD concentration increased. The infiltration/inflow and exfiltration showed clear distinction before and after the sewer rehabilitation in this area. In S2 area, the patterns and the range of the fluctuation of the flow made no differences before and after the sewer rehabilitation. The flow decreased slightly and its BOD concentration increased considerably after the sewer rehabilitation. Big decrement in stormwater inflow but small in exfiltration appeared in this area. In S3 area, the patterns and the range of the fluctuation of the flow made no differences before and after the sewer rehabilitation. The flow decreased slightly and its BOD concentration increased in a small rate in this area.
