Growth and tuber development of ‘Black Magic’calla lily as affected by the rain shelter with 50% shading and the tuber size were investigated. Tubers of five grades in size were cultivated in the rain shelter or in the open field (control). Days to emergence of shoots in the rain shelter was accelerated by 4.2 days as compared to the open field. Emergence ratio was higher as the tuber was larger, tubers grown in the rain shelter showed the significance in the growth characteristics as compared to the control. There were no significant differences in the number of flowers per tuber between the rain shelter and the open field. Flower quality was 12.2 cm longer than that in the open field. flowering characteristics was improved with the increasing tuber size. Low infection of soft rot disease of 3∼22% was found in the rain shelter as compared to the that of 19∼83% in the open field. Thus tubers produced under the rain shelter showed improved quality, Even if the small tubers with diameters of 0.5∼1.0 cm were cultivated in the rain shelter, the weight and diameters of tuber harvested after approximately 7 months were 50.2 g and 5.7 cm, respectively.
Background: There are many retreatment failure patients admitted in National Kongju Tuberculosis Hospital. But there is not satisfactory treatment method for them at present. We think that more attentions and active measures for them are needed. Method: We reviewed sex and age, duration of illness, previously used antituberculosis drugs, drug resistance, extent of disease, reasons for early stopping or irregular medication and schooling of 50 retreatment failure patients admitted in National Kongju Tuberculosis Hospital from April 1992 to February 1993. Results: 1) The male to female ratio was 3:2 and 62% of the patients were between 21 and 40 years of age. 2) Twenty eight cases (56%) had the duration of illness over 10 years. 3) All cases had used most of the antituberculosis drugs. 4) Drug sensitivity test showed resistance to RMP in 46 cases (96%), INH in 40 cases (83%) and other drugs in 3-32 cases (6-67%). 5) Forty eight cases (96%) had far advanced disease on chest P-A film. 6) Twenty eight cases (56%) in primary chemotherapy and twenty one cases (42%) in retreatment had the histories of premature stopping or irregular ingestion of the drug. The reasons for premature stopping or irregular ingestion of the drug were as follows; in primary chemotherapy, 29 cases (75%) were due to 'having no symptoms', while in retreatment, 6 cases (29%) were due to 'having no symtoms', 6 cases (29%) were 'too, busy' and 3 cases (14%) were for 'financial problem'. 7) Twenty seven cases (54%) had at least graduated from high school. Conclusion: Greater efforts are needed to prevent tratment failure. More supports and admission treatment for retreatment failure patients are needed to prevent infection and to treat properly.

Background: The tuberculin skin test (TST) is the standard tool to diagnose latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in mass screening. The aim of this study is to find an optimal cut-off point of the TST+ rate within tuberculosis (TB) contacts to predict the active TB development among adolescents in school TB outbreaks. Methods: The Korean National Health Insurance Review and Assessment database was used to identify active TB development in relation to the initial TST (cut-off, 10 mm). The 7,475 contacts in 89 schools were divided into two groups: Incident TB group (43 schools) and no incident TB group (46 schools). LTBI treatment was initiated in 607 of the 1,761 TST+ contacts. The association with active TB progression was examined at different cut-off points of the TST+ rate. Results: The mean duration of follow-up was $3.9{\pm}0.9years$. Thirty-three contacts developed active TB during the 4,504 person-years among the TST+ contacts without LTBI treatment (n=1,154). The average TST+ rate for the incident TB group (n=43) and no incident TB group (n=46) were 31.0% and 15.5%, respectively. The TST+ rate per group was related with TB progression (odds ratio [OR], 1.025; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.001-1.050; p=0.037). Based on the TST+ rate per group, active TB was best predicted at TST+ ${\geq}$ 16% (OR, 3.11; 95% CI, 1.29-7.51; area under curve, 0.64). Conclusion: Sixteen percent of the TST+ rate per group within the same grade students can be suggested as an optimal cut-off to predict active TB development in middle and high schools TB outbreaks.
Fracture of frontal bone is infrequent, but may have serious complications because of their proximity to the brain, eyes and noses. Fractures of the frontal area range from 5% to 15% of all facial bone fracture and include supraorbital rim and frontal sinus. As frontal bone fractures most frequently occur in the multiply injured patient, a thorough clinical and radiological examination of the patient is required before diagnosis and treatment plans are established. Sometimes coorperative treatment with other department is required. It is specially considered that incision for access to frontal region and surgical methods for open reduction, cranialization, cannulization, sinus obliteration. After surgical or conservative treatment, it may have complication. Complication of frontal bone injury vary in severity and may occur at several years after the incidents. The major types of complications are those that occur directly at the time of injury, infection and chronic problems. This is clinical study on 31 patients with frontal bone fracture, at department of oral and maxillofacial surgery in dental hospital of Wonkwang university during past ten years. The results were as follows; 1. The sex ratio of all patients is 29 (94%) male to 2 (6%) female, the average age is 33 and the prominent groups are 2nd, 3rd decade age. 2. The causative factors are mostly traffic accident 22 cases (70%) and fall dawn, industrial accidents, so on. 3. The 17 cases has shown alert mental status, but neurologic problems is in 14 (45%) cases in initial accessment. 4. Associated facial bone fractures are prominent in the maxilla (42%) and panfacial fracture (39%). 5. Involved general problems are in department of neurologic surgery problems (65%), orthopaedic problems (23%) and ophthalmologic problems (19%) in order. 6. Open reduction has done in 15 cases and 16 cases with conservative management. 7. Postoperative complications are chronic headache (42%), esthetic problems (39%) and ophthalmologic problems (35%)in order.

The results were as follows; 3 additives(rice bran, wheat bran and soybean bran) to the Quercus dentata sawdust were applied at 10, 20 and 30%. High yield was recorded at 20% of rice bran and wheat bran and 30% of soybean bran. Among various sawdust media, the cultivation with the Quercus dentata sawdust alone showed the most favored growth index, such as 22 days of full mycelial growth, 11 days of pinheading from spawning and 23.5g per $1,200m{\ell}$ bottle. In the size of bottles, the lowest infection ratio was 5 % at $1,200m{\ell}$ bottle. In the growth characteristics with the bottle size, Reishi at $1,600m{\ell}$ bottle showed best result when it is observed for 13~15 days in pinheading from spawing, 36~37 days in fruit bodies growing and 26.7~29.3g yield per bottle. The highest yield per area was 6.4kg at horizontal bed with 218 bottles per $3.3m^2$. The Reishi produced in $1,600m{\ell}$ bottle with horizontal cultivation had less number of fruit bodies and best yield, thus it is determined to be the most economic method.

Objectives: The facial bones are the most noticeable area in the human body, and facial injuries can cause significant functional, aesthetic, and psychological complications. Continuous study of the patterns of facial bone fractures and changes in trends is helpful in the prevention and treatment of maxillofacial fractures. The purpose of the current clinico-statistical study is to investigate the pattern of facial fractures over a 4-year period. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis of 1,824 fracture sites was carried out in 1,284 patients admitted to SMG-SNU Boramae Medical Center for facial bone fracture from January 2010 to December 2013. We evaluated the distributions of age/gender/season, fracture site, cause of injury, duration from injury to treatment, hospitalization period, and postoperative complications. Results: The ratio of men to women was 3.2:1. Most fractures occurred in individuals aged between teens to 40s and were most prevalent at the middle and end of the month. Fractures occurred in the nasal bone (65.0%), orbital wall (29.2%), maxillary wall (15.3%), zygomatic arch (13.2%), zygomaticomaxillary complex (9.8%), mandibular symphysis (6.5%), mandibular angle (5.9%), mandibular condyle (4.9%), and mandibular body (1.9%). The most common etiologies were fall (32.5%) and assault (26.0%). The average duration of injury to treatment was 6 days, and the average hospitalization period was 5 days. Eighteen postoperative complications were observed in 17 patients, mainly infection and malocclusion in the mandible. Conclusion: This study reflects the tendency for trauma in the Seoul metropolitan region because it analyzes all facial fracture patients who visited our hospital regardless of the specific department. Distinctively, in this study, midfacial fractures had a much higher incidence than mandible fractures.
We have reviewed a 9-year experience with 47 patients treated for salivary tumors which arose In the parotid gland (23 patients; 48.9%), submandibular gland (15 Patients, 31.9%), minor salivary gland (8 patients; 17.0%), and sublingual gland (1 patient; 2.1%). The age of patients ranged from 12 to 71 with a mean of 42.9 years. The male to female ratio showed a female preponderance, 19:28 (1:1.5). An asymptomatic mass (91.5%) was most common presentation. With fine-needle aspiration, the predictive value of a neoplasm was 88.9%. Histopathologically, the most common salivary gland tumors was Pleomorphic adenoma(57.4%). The pleomorphic adenoma was most common in benign tumor group, and the mucoepidermoid carcinoma was most common in malignant tumor group. Of the salivary gland tumors, the incidence of cervical metastasis was 22.2%. Major postoperative complications were facial nerve paralysis and wound infection.

Reorganization of myun health care service is one of the main issues in health care delivery in rural Korea. The fundamenta, concept of the role and function of the myun health subcenter is that it is the basic unit of rural health care service and is to provide comprehensive health care service through the integration of curative and preventive services. The aim of this study is to analyze the patterns of curative activities in the myun health subcenter in terms of the most prevalent types of diseases, necessary diagnostic methods and required equipment, types of treatment, necessary drugs and materials, and finally the cost of curative services. The population on which this study was done was the 1596 patients who visited the two myun health subcenters (Sunwon Myun and Naega Myun) in Kang Wha County, the area of the Yonsei University Community Health Teaching Project, during period from May 1, 1975 to June 10, 1976. For the patient's record in the clinic, problem oriented medical records were used. Decisions regarding the disease classification, the diagnostic methods used and selection of the most appropriate and adequate medical treatment were made by a group of three experienced physicians after reviewing the medical records which had been written by public physicians who were treating patients in the study area. The records were reviewed by resident staff members of the Department of Preventive Medicine, of Yonsei University College of Medicine. A brief summary of results of the study is as follow: 1. 29.9% of the patients who visited the clinics were ages between 0-4. No sex difference was observed among patients less than 20 years of age. However, among patients over 20 years old, females predominated. Thus it is evident that the majority of patients were either children or mothers and grandmothers. 2. The distance from the individual villages to the myun health subcenter was one of important factors in determining the ratio of clinic visits. However, other factors such as the activities of the health workers also affected the rates substantially. 3. The most common 25 diseases comprised 90.2% of all the diseases recorded. Acute respiratory infection (25.5%), Skin (12.7%) , diarrheal diseases (6.8%), neuralgia and back pain (4.9%) and. all other injuries (3.9%) were the five most common diseases. 4. Of all the diseases diagnosed and treated, 9.2% required simple laboratory tests for diagnosis, 6.5% required X-ray examination, and altogether 13.6% required either laboratory test or X-ray examination. 5. Treatment and management of 42.0% of the cases could be accomplished with simple, inexpensive drugs, 12.8% required the use of more expensive drugs (mostly antibiotics) and injections were required in 19.7% of the cases. Minor surgery and referral were necessary in 5% of the cases. 6. The cost for diagnosis and treatment was estimated with a standard which was set by general concensus. The average cost of diagnosis was 144 per case and the cost of treatment was 726 per case, The Total average cost per visit was 870.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the runner cutting time on the growth and yield of strawberry (Fragaria ${\times}$ ananassa cv. Maehyang and Seolhyang) during nursery period of two consecutive years (2009 and 2010). Strawberry runners which connected from mother plants to daughter plants were cut 30, 20, 10 and 5 days before transplanting day (11 Sep. 2009 and 10 Sep. 2010). When runner cutting time delayed, more nutrition was supplied to the daughter plant until late nursery period. It showed that there was a tendency to increase the fresh weight, crown diameter and leaf chlorophyll content. On the other hand, when the runner was cut earlier, the growth of underground part such as root weight was improved. Irrigation demand increased to 29.7% in case of runner cutting from mother plant compared with runner non-cutting treatment. In addition, infection ratio of anthracnose through runner part was 37.6% higher in case of runner cutting than that of runner non-cutting treatment. After transplanting, budding and flowering period were delayed up to 2 or 3 days because of late runner cutting. But there was no significant difference in marketable fruit yield among runner cutting times. It is recommended to conduct runner cutting 5 or 10 days before transplanting for reducing the occurrence of anthracnose.
Continuous body temperature monitoring is useful and essential in diverse medical procedures such as infection onset detection, therapeutic hypothermia, circadian rhythm monitoring, sleep disorder assessment, and gynecological research. However, the existing thermometers are too invasive or intrusive to be applied to long-term body temperature monitoring. In our previous study, we invented the bi-medium deep body thermometer which can noninvasively and continuously monitor deep tissue temperature. And the ratio of thermal resistances expressed as K-value should be obtained to estimate body temperature with the thermometer and it can be different under various measurement environments. Although the device was proven to be useful through preliminary simulation test and small group of human study, the experimental environment was restrictive in our previous approach. In this study, a finite element simulation was executed to obtain the K-value and evaluate the accuracy of bi-medium thermometer under various measurement environments. In addition, K-value estimation equation was developed by analyzing the influence of 5 measurement environmental factors (medium length, medium height, tissue depth, blood perfusion rate, and ambient temperature) on K-value. The results revealed that the estimation accuracy of bi-medium deep body thermometer based on computer simulation was very high (RMSE < $0.003^{\circ}C$) in various measurement environments. Also, bi-medium deep body thermometer based on K-value estimation equation showed relatively accurate results (RMSE < $0.3^{\circ}C$) except for one case. Although the K-value estimation technology should be improved for more accurate body temperature estimation, the results of finite element simulation showed that bi-medium deep body thermometer could accurately measure various tissue temperatures under diverse environments.
