상용 CFD 프로그램을 사용한 베인형 관성분리기의 설계인자 영향 검토 (Study on the Effect of Design Parameters of the Vane Type Inertial Separator Using Commercial CFD Code)

  • Since the intake air of gas turbine engine of marine purpose contains water particles, inertial separator for separating the air and water particles are provided. Saw type and wave type separator are now used to separate inflow water particle from the gas. In this paper, the design parameters of saw type separator are studied by numerical simulations. Using the commercial CFD program, Star-CCM+, Lagrangian-Eulerian method was used to perform the analysis of two phase flow of the mist in the air. This method solves Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations in Eulerian framework for the continuous phase, while solves equation of motion for individual particles in Lagrangian framework. Lagrangian multiphase method was applied to monitor the particles of different sizes and shapes and to verify collision between particles by chasing particles. Water particles were injected through injectors located at the inlet of the separator and escape mode was used which assumes that the particles attached on the surface of inertial separator were removed from the simulation, effectively escaping the solution domain. Through the numerical computations with the inlet condition of constant water particle size in the wetness fraction of 85%, efficiency of eliminating the water particle and the pressure drop between the inlet and outlet were examined.

  • 본 연구 대상 터보 프롭 항공기는 주어진 항공기 임무 수행을 위해 결빙 조건하에서도 운용이 가능하여야 한다. 동 연구에 적용된 터보 항공기의 공기 흡입구 계통은 정상 비행조건하에서 엔진 입구에 최대 전압력을 공급할 수 있도록 설계 및 검증이 되어야 할 뿐만 아니라 결빙조건하에서 생길 수 있는 얼음과 같은 입자가 엔진 흡입구 망으로 들어가서 엔진 화염꺼짐이나 엔진에 심각한 손상을 주지 않도록 하기 위한 관성분리기를 포함하도록 개발이 되어야 한다. 따라서 결빙 조건하에서 형상이 변하는 가변형상의 공기흡입구 조립체를 설계하고 설계 결과 확인을 위해 조립체에 대한 전산 유동 및 구조해석을 수행하였다. 이후 35% 축소형 모델을 제작하여 풍동시험을 수행하였다. 동 논문에서는 흡입구 조립체 개발과정에서 요구되는 공기역학적 설계, 잔산 유동/구조 해석 및 풍동 시험평가 결과를 기술하였다.

  • Removal of water contents in a gas is needed in industrial field of gas processing related on energy production/conversion, and environmental treatment. Inertial separators are economic devices for separating droplets from the gas stream. For design and incorporation of inertial pre-treatment separator, characteristics of removal of water contents with various operation conditions are needed. In this study, removal efficiency of water droplets at various flowrates (5-14 SCMM) and relative humidity (R.H.) conditions (40%, and 90%) has been investigated. At low R.H. condition, the removal characteristic is similar to the removal of solid particles. But, droplet growth resulting from the condensation of water vapor at high R.H. condition, is significant and it made increase in removal efficiency of droplet phase of water contents. For rapid removal of water contents, an effective method to enhancing condensation growth of water droplets is highly needed.

  • Inertial impaction type mist eliminators are the most effective instruments to separate mist from the gas. In this work, the effect of the horizontal chevron type mist eliminators is characterized experimentally. Droplet size distribution and evaluation of removal efficiency of the chevron type mist eliminators at different gas flows were investigated using an aerosol particle size analyzer and a portable aerosol spectrometer, respectively. The experimental investigations showed that the mist removal efficiency in these instruments is dependent in the droplet size, and the pressure drop is nil.

Fabrication and Simulation of Fluid Wing Structure for Microfluidic Blood Plasma Separation

  • Human blood consists of 55% of plasma and 45% of blood cells such as white blood cell (WBC) and red blood cell (RBC). In plasma, there are many kinds of promising biomarkers, which can be used for the diagnosis of various diseases and biological analysis. For diagnostic tools such as a lab-on-a-chip (LOC), blood plasma separation is a fundamental step for accomplishing a high performance in the detection of a disease. Highly efficient separators can increase the sensitivity and selectivity of biosensors and reduce diagnostic time. In order to achieve a higher yield in blood plasma separation, we propose a novel fluid wing structure that is optimized by COMSOL simulations by varying the fluidic channel width and the angle of the bifurcation. The fluid wing structure is inspired by the inertial particle separator system in helicopters where sand particles are prevented from following the air flow to an engine. The structure is ameliorated in order to satisfy biological and fluidic requirements at the micro scale to achieve high plasma yield and separation efficiency. In this study, we fabricated the fluid wing structure for the efficient microfluidic blood plasma separation. The high plasma yield of 67% is achieved with a channel width of $20{\mu}m$ in the fabricated fluidic chip and the result was not affected by the angle of the bifurcation.
