This study analyzed the effects of the nutrient intake on oral health and chewing difficulty according to the age group. The subjects were 5,855 participants of the third Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES VI), 2015, Korea Centers for Disease Control and prevention and aged 20 years and over. The data were analyzed using SPSS Ver 21.0, classified as the difficulty in chewing group (DC) and no difficulty in chewing group (NDC). As a result, the DC rates were 5 times higher in the 60+ year age group (39.5%) than in the 20-39 year age group (8.1%). The DC group were experience periodontal disease (33.4%), dental caries (30.1%), diabetes (41.8%), myocardial infarction (57.3%), arthritis (44.0%), asthma (48.0%), and depression (41.9%). In addition, 86% of the DC group were experiencing speech problems. The DC group had significantly lower intakes (1446.59g), than the NDC group (1666.62g), and the protein, carbohydrate, dietary fiber and other dietary intake were significantly lower. These findings suggest that the chewing difficulty is related to the nutrient intake, and psychological status in the elderly DC group. Therefore, the care of chewing difficulties is essential for the elderly to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Accordingly, oral care and myofunctional therapy are needed to maintain oral health.

This study was carried out to examine the main cause of influencing oral health impact profile (OHIP) and self-esteem of patients on orthodontic treatment. Questionnaire was used for research based on 200 patients on orthodontic treatment in four dental clinics specialized orthodontic treatment and located in Daegu. General characteristics, orthodontic treatment characteristics, OHIP, and self-esteem were examined to analyze the cause of influencing OHIP and self-esteem of patients on orthodontic treatment. The results, Influential factors in OHIP, The younger age (P<0.01), showed that healthier oral condition (P<0.001), and treatment done by family encouragement (P<0.05) were the influential factors of OHIP. Influential factors in self esteem showed that male (P<0.05), unmarried (P<0.01), and higher income (P<0.05) were influential factors of self esteem.
Background: In India, tobacco consumption is responsible for one of the highest rates of oral cancer in the world, the annual oral cancer incidence is steadily increasing among young tobacco users. Studies have documented efforts taken by physicians, doctors and even dentists, in the form of individual or group counseling to curb tobacco use in smoke or smokeless form. However, which one is more effective, still remains an unanswered question. The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of individual and group counseling for cessation of the tobacco habit amongst industrial workers in Pune and to compare quit rates. Materials and methods: An interventional study design was selected for 150 industrial workers which were stratified randomly into three groups (control, individual and group counseling groups) and interventions were provided to individual and group counseling groups over a period of six months, which were then compared with the control group that received brief intervention at the start of the study. Results: There was significant difference in the quit rates of the participants in the individual counseling group (ICG) and group counseling group (GCG) when compared at 6 months with the control counseling group (CCG). In the individual counseling group was 6% while in group counseling group it was 7.5% after six months of counseling. Conclusions: No conclusion could be drawn whether individual or group counseling were better interms of quit rates. Individual and group counseling groups were definitely better than the control group when compared at 3 and 6 months, respectively.
The purpose of this study is to investigate into company workers' general characteristics and their awareness or oral health examinations. Answer sheets for questionnaire for 267 industrial workers at Changwon city, Korea, were collected and analyzed using SPSS 12.0. Among workers who haven't visited a dental clinic for last one year, 75.6% of them didn't have dental caries. 74.0% of workers who haven't received dental scaling didn't have dental caries. 84.4% of workers who thought of themselves as having good oral health had good oral health and none of them had dental caries. 9.1% of people who had dental caries of 4 or more had bad breath. 73.4% of workers didn't need to treat dental caries, while scaling in 57.7% of them was required. To reform and improve of the system, incremental dental health care system for industrial workers is needed. Oral health education is needed to increase the motivation of industrial workers to control their basic disease.

This study examined the effects of the physical functions (ADL, IADL), mental functions (CES-D, MMSE-K) and oral health impact profile (OHIP-14) on the quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) of the elderly in long-term care facilities. The study subjects were 602 elderly people, who were surveyed at the entrance to the long-term care facilities. The interviews were conducted using a questionnaire during the period from May 1, to June 30, 2014. As a result, the quality of life was affected more by the CES-D and MMSE-K than by the ADL and IADL or by OHIP-14; the quality of life improved with a higher ADL, IADL, and OHIP-14 and a higher CES-D and MMSE-K. A higher OHIP-14, ADL and IADL resulted in a higher CES-D and MMSE-K. These results suggested that the quality of life is correlated significantly with the physical functions (ADL, IADL), mental functions (CES-D, MMSE-K), and the oral health impact profile (OHIP-14).

This study examined the tongue coating index and halitosis to determine the association with the oral care behavior and variation in halitosis according to the tongue coating index, dental calculus, and the oral environment before and after scaling among 130 participants in scaling practices of the Department of Dental Hygiene at K University in Daejeon. The subjects were asked to participate in a survey, in an oral examination for the tongue coating index, dental plaque, and dental calculus status, and in halitosis measurement. The tongue coating most significantly affected halitosis and the tongue coating index was strongly correlated with smoking and tongue washing. More frequent toothbrushing, a lower level of halitosis; and nonsurgical treatment of scaling were effective in reducing halitosis; age was associated with the tongue coating index. Therefore, it will be necessary to perform good oral care and reduce the amount of dental plaque and tongue coating and undergo regular scaling with the objective of improving oral health and reducing halitosis.

This study is to look at the risk of chronic diseases in adults and oral health behaviors affecting periodontitis by gender. This study selected 3,071 males aged 35 to 65, 4,273 females, and 7,344 people as the final subjects of the study using the sixth original data from the National Health and Nutrition Survey. In this study, subjective oral health classified under 'bad' presented 1.69 times(p<0.001) the risk of Periodontitis for males and 1.50 times(p<0.001) for females. There was a 2.01 times(p<0.001) of a risk of periodontitis for male and 1.40 times(p=0.001) of a risk for females. Smokers have a 1.68 times(p<0.001) of a risk for males and 2.07 times(p<0.001) of a risk for females, thus a higher risk for periodontitis for females. The risk of periodontitis was 1.44 times(p<0.001) of a risk for males and 1.30 times(p<0.05) for females when compared in normal hypertension. Obesity was at a rate of 1.199 times(p<0.05) as much for males in the non-military group, 1.202 times(p<0.05) that of females for periodontitis and putting females slightly more at risk. For diabetes, males were at risk of 1.28(p<0.05) whereas it being 1.53 times(p<0.05) for females, compared the average health female. In total, Males were found to be at the greatest risk of periodontitis, while women were at the highest risk for smoking. All parameters except smoking and diabetes show a higher risk of periodontitis for females. As males are more likely to have a higher risk of periodontitis than females, they are considered to be more interested in oral health care and need systematic oral health education and policies to prevent oral diseases.

Stress is closely associated with oral diseases, being considered to be one of important variables to affect the improvement of oral health and the quality of life. In this study, a survey was conducted on 550 adults from July 1, 2012, to February 28, 2013. A path analysis was carried out to determine the influence of physical stress symptoms and psycho-emotional stress symptoms on dry mouth, oral mucosal disease and halitosis symptoms. The findings of the study were as follows: Oral mucosa affected halitosis in a direct effect and dry mouth exerted a direct influence on that as well. When stress symptoms affected halitosis, dry mouth and oral mucosa had an indirect impact on that as parameters. Dry mouth exercised a direct influence on oral mucosa. The above-mentioned findings suggested that the physical stress symptoms and psycho-emotional stress symptoms of the adults affected their dry mouth, oral mucosal disease and halitosis both in direct and indirect effects. As the stress of adults is closely bound up with their oral diseases, how to properly cope with stress should carefully be considered in order for them to lead a better life.
Objectives : This study was carried out to investigate stepwise regression analysis on cervical abrasion & general characteristics, subjective oral health perception, habit related to oral health, and oral symptom.
