High-power Quasi-continuous Wave Operation of Incoherently Combined Yb-doped Fiber Lasers

  • High-energy, high-power, quasi-continuous wave (QCW) operation of double-clad Yb fiber lasers incorporating an incoherent signal combiner is reported. We constructed four efficient, high-power Yb fiber lasers, each of which produced rectangular pulses at 1080 nm with a pulse energy greater than 15 J, and a pulse duration of 10 ms at a repetition rate of 10 Hz, corresponding to an average power of over 150 W and a peak power of over 1.5 kW for ~200 W of incident pump power at 915 nm. These laser outputs were combined by a homemade incoherent fiber signal combiner with low loss, yielding a maximum peak power of ~6.0 kW in a beam with $M^2{\approx}12.5$. The detailed laser characteristics and prospects for further power scaling in QCW operation are discussed.

간섭계용 헬륨-네온 레이저의 주파수 안정화 (Frequency stabilization of HeNe laser for interferometry)

  • Lasers are used as the source of the interferometers in the industrial field. These lasers need 2 requirements. The first is the narrow linewidth of laser for the long coherence length. The second is the stabilized frequency of laser for the precision measurement. Now HeNe lasers are mostly used and the frequency stability is about 10$^{-9}$ . In this paper, we construct the HeNe laser systems of frequency stabilization using typical 2 method, the beat frequency stabilization method and the intensity difference method. So, we get the frequency stabilities of 2.01$\times$10$^{-9}$ (0.1s), 3.4$\times$10$^{-9}$ (0.1s).

  • Over the last three decades, the development of Ti:sapphire femtosecond lasers has led to advancements in scientific and industrial fields. In particular, these advanced lasers show great potential for applications with bio-imaging and medical surgery, such as two-photon microscopy, nonlinear Raman microscopy, optical coherence tomography, and ophthalmic surgery. Herein, we present a detailed description of the theoretical and experimental physics of Kerr-lens mode-locked femtosecond Ti:sapphire lasers and its two-photon microscopy.

Linear Electric Motors in Machining Processes

  • Application of linear electric motors to automation of manufacturing processes, gantry robots, machining processes, machining centers, additive manufacturing and laser scribing has been discussed. The paper focuses on replacement of ball lead screw mechanisms with linear electric motors, linear motor driven positioning stages, linear motor driven gantries, machining centers, machining of large objects and industrial lasers. The best linear electric motors for application to machining processes are permanent magnet (PM) linear synchronous motors (LSMs), especially those without PMs in the reaction tail, e.g., high thrust density linear (HDL) LSMs and PM flux switching (FS) LSMs.

  • Excitations of eight pumping transitions for nitric oxide fluorescence imaging are analyzed under equivalent experimental conditions to determine the detection. Frequency mixed dye laser pumping, 1st anti-Stokes $H_2$ Raman of KrF excimer laser pumping and ArF excimer laser pumping show good sensitivities.

무인차량의 자동주차 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Auto-Parking Algorithm for Driving in Urban)

  • 무인차량의 주행은 각종 센서를 이용한 차량제어시스템, 항법시스템, 장애물시스템, 통합시스템의 4가지 서브 시스템으로 구성 되어있다. 본 연구는 비접촉 거리측정 장치인 레이저스캐너를 이용하여 무인차량의 평행주차 및 직각주차 알고리즘 개발을 목적으로 하였다. 이 알고리즘을 검증하기 위하여 GPS와 차량에 6대의 레이저스캐너를 장착하여 이용하였고, 레이저스캐너를 이용한 위치 계산의 오차를 줄이기 위해 타이어 미끄러짐을 최소로 할 수 있도록 5km/h로 차량의 이동 속도를 제한하였다.

  • $CO_2$ lasers are used in the various industrial fields since the development of $CO_2$ laser in 1964 It is because $CO_2$ laser is more efficient, more powerful than other lasers and $CO_2$ laser light of wavelength $10.6{\mu}m$ interacts with materials well. Thus $CO_2$ laser is used for industrial application such as cutting, punching, welding, surface treatment of metal and nonmetalic materials, isotope separation, etc. Already other research institutes including some universities have recognized the advantages and importance of the $CO_2$ laser, and studied it. However, its technology is in elementary state yet Therefore,we started this study to develop present $CO_2$ laser technology more highly and to fit it. The main purposes of this study are to acquire various technologies such as high voltage, high pressure glow discharge, vaccum and optical cavity design.

Application of mid-infrared TDLAS to various small molecule diagnostics

  • The spectroscopy over a region from 3 to 17 ${\mu}m$ based on the tuneable diode lasers (TDLAS) is the most powerful technique for in situ studies of the diagnostics of small molecules. The increasing interest in small molecules especially containing carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and fluorine containing ones can be fulfilled by TDLAS at 0.0001 cm-1 resolution, because most of these compounds are infrared active. TDLAS provides a means of determining the absolute concentrations of the ground states of stable and transient molecular species, which can be employed for the time dependent studies in sub micro second scale. Information about gas temperature and population densities can also be derived from TDLAS measurements. Collisional energy transfer between the small molecules can be studied with TDLAS. Also, a variety of free radicals and molecular ions have been detected by TDLAS. Since plasmas with molecular feed gases are used in many applications, there are new applications in industrial field. Recently, the development of quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) offers an attractive new option for TDLAS.
