  • Recent earthquakes have shown that near-field earthquakes can produce spectral demands significantly larger than those considered in current design code. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recently initiated a coordinated research program on safety significance of near-field earthquakes. The purpose of this program is to focus on the assessment of vulnerability of nuclear facility structures by using and adapting the best available engineering practices appropriate to evaluate the effects of near-field earthquakes. The objective of this paper is to evaluate of seismic responses of a shear building test specimen subjected to near-filed earthquakes. To achieve the objective, the seismic responses of the test specimen, evaluated by the Displacement Coefficient Method (DCM) and Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis (NDA), are compared with those by the experimental tests.

  • Most of Korea's beauty college education focuses on the subject rather than the industrial field of the industrialized world. It is centered on subjects rather than on-site job modules, and training sessions are required for graduation of the training period rather than having flexible configurations. Therefore, the education curriculum and industrial field training are becoming mismatched because of the goal of acquiring a certificate in skin care major subjects. Based on this problem, the researcher made a questionnaire about the certificate utilization of students who are majoring in skin care and 294 students were surveyed. It was found that it had a high degree of utilization to take a job, but that it had below normal level on utilization after entering the industrial field. Based on this analysis result, I propose to review the need to reorganize the skin care curriculum, which is based on the national competency standards (NCS) beginning in 2014. Education experts at the college of skin care should continue to develop a curriculum centered on academic subjects and industrial field curriculum as closely as possible, by focusing on the direction and trend of the industry's branches and industry experts.

  • Prediction of customer failure rates plays an important role for establishing appropriate management policies and improving the profitability for industries. For these reasons, many LCD (Liquid crystal display) manufacturing industries have attempted to construct prediction models for customer failure rates. However, most traditional models are based on the parametric approaches requiring the assumption that the data follow a certain probability distribution. To address the limitation posed by the distributional assumption underpinning traditional models, we propose using parameter-free data mining models for predicting customer failure rates. In addition, we use various information associated with product attributes and field return for more comprehensive analysis. The effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method were demonstrated with a real dataset from one of the leading LCD companies in South Korea.

  • We suggest a method to configure feature functions of continuous conditional random field (C-CRF). Regression tree and similarity analysis are introduced to construct the first and second feature functions of C-CRF, respectively. Rules from the regression tree are transformed to logic functions. If a logic in the set of rules is true for a data then it returns the corresponding value of leaf node and zero, otherwise. We build an Euclidean similarity matrix to define neighborhood, which constitute the second feature function. Using two feature functions, we make a C-CRF model and an illustrate example is provided.

  • Single PPM Quality Innovation Movement is originally developed quality program in Korea for supplier's quality level-up since 1995. The quality target is below the 10ppm(parts per million) in outgoing quality and delivered goods plus field claim. Recently 1,053 companies is received Single PPM Quality Certification from government. This quality program is to realized the anticipated results not only duality level's increasing, but also company's confidence, competitiveness. We were able to obtain participations of 75 questionnaire, and derived statistics by means of SPSS/PC version 10.0. In this study, we find the bottleneck factor for promotion and upgrade S-PPM, and suggest a way out of difficulties.

  • RF coil is an important component of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system and the performance of RF coil is one of major factors for high SNR images. Sensitivity and RF field uniformity are parameters for evaluating RF coil performance. Since the B1 field is induced by RF coil, MR signal is strongly affected by RF coil structure and arrangement. In receiving MR signal, the RF coil sensitivity to MR Signal is also determined by the induced B1 field of RF coil. Therefore, the spatial distribution of B1 field must be verified. In this work, we performed computer simulation of the basic RF coil structures using Matlab and verified their sensitivity and uniformity through their B1 field distribution. This work will be useful for the advanced multi-channel RF coil design.

  • In process of water removing safely from plastic clay, an electric field applied to a wet, porous solid such as day usually causes the rapid dehydration. The water-bearing positive ions move to negative electrode under the d. c. electrical stress or field. Therefore application of electro-osmosis to wet clay could include drying thick and large-scale ceramic body quickly and evenly. The d. c. power supply unit to 60 volts is necessary for safe practice. Also wider contact area and shorter distance between electrodes accelerate effectively the removal of water.
