  • Information is known to be a key element for the successful operation of a supply chain, which is required of the efficient ordering strategies and accurate predictions of demands. This study proposes a method to effectively utilize the meteorological forecast information in order to make decisions about ordering and prediction of demands by using the Taguchi experimental design. It is supposed that each echelon in a supply chain determines the order quantity with the prediction of precipitation in the next day based on probability forecast information. The precipitation event is predicted when the probability of the precipitation exceeds a chosen threshold. Accordingly, the choice of the threshold affect the performances of a supply chain. The Taguchi method is adopted to deduce a set of thresholds for echelons which is least sensitive to changes in environmental conditions, such as variability of demand distributions and production periods. A simulation of the beer distribution game was conducted to show that the set of thresholds found by the Taguchi method can reduce the cumulative chain cost, which consists of inventory and backlog costs.

  • There is a trend toward the world's manufacturing sites moving to East Asia. After manufacture, these products are transported to the advanced nations for their consumption demands. Among such advanced nations, the U.S.A. has the largest demand, and then Japan and European countries follow. It should be noted that the infrastructures of the Asian districts used for the production sites are rather limited, and the volume of products transported from these districts of Asia to the U.S.A is becoming tremendously large. This situation is causing very serious traffic problems. New products are required to be transported swiftly by air. Once the consumption and market demands are stable however, the products should be sent rather slowly, but in larger amounts. However, the airports of China are quite restricted in capacity, while the transportation volume is becoming large. As a result, transportation cost and the time required for transportation are increasing. Now, a third method is appearing. This is the so-called Sea and Air transportation. The cost and time in transit of this mode take mean positions between Air and Ocean services. At present there exists no well-thought-out strategy for how to allocate these three methods of transportation. This paper is an attempt to theoretically describe this mechanism and to discover the optimal way to allocate the three modes. For this purpose, several mathematical properties of value and cost of the products are defined, and on this basis a simulation of the transportation is established.

  • The ultimate goal of inventory management is to decide the timing and the quantity of ordering in response to uncertain demands. Recently, some researchers have focused upon an impact of distortions in the information, e.g., customer order cancellation, on an economical inventory policy. The customer order cancellation is considered a kind of distortions in demands, because a demand that is eventually cancelled is equivalent to a phony demand. Also, there are some additional distortions in the inventory information. For instance, the procurement of suppliers may include some nonconforming items as a result of imperfect production and inspection by the suppliers, and/or damage in transit. The nonconforming item should be considered a kind of distortions in the inventory information, because the nonconforming item is equivalent to a phony stock. In this article, we consider an inventory model under the situation that customers can cancel their orders and the procurement of suppliers may include some nonconforming items. Then, we introduce the customer order reservation into the inventory model for the purpose of avoiding the costly backlogs, because the customer order reservation gives retailers a period to fulfill customer's requests. We formulate a periodic review (s, S) inventory model and investigate the economical operation under the situation mentioned above. Further, through the sensitivity analysis, we show the impact of these distortions and the effect of the customer order reservation on the inventory policy.

  • The purpose of this study is to survey the outdoor living space of apartment housing complexes in Daejeon area and to find out the degree of satisfaction, the frequency of use, the preference of facilities and the degree of importance. This study insists that the recognition about the residents' changing demands and interests be considered more important than the aesthetic design. Moreover, it can be proposed as the basic resource which can be used for the social demands. Therefore, various perspectives about the outdoor living space of apartment housing complexes can play an vital role in improving the design process and developing better residential environment.

  • In recent years, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology and an explosion of interest in it, education on artificial intelligence is spreading to various fields. As a result, many universities are establishing artificial intelligence-related departments or expanding their quota. In line with this trend, University C has newly established the AI operation department in line with the industrial base in the region. In this paper, a curriculum was developed for the newly established AI operation department, and this curriculum was designed and developed focusing on subjects reflecting the demands of industries based on AIOps (Artificial intelligence for IT Operations). To this end, a consultative body was formed with industry experts, and opinions were collected through a survey.

  • It has been a major issue to repair the broken system quickly for improvement of productivity and utilization. Generally, high utilization of system requires the high amount of spare parts in inventory and inventory cost. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the proper amount of inventory with regard to utilization of system. This study designs a methodology for determining the proper amount of inventory level in a two-echelon spare parts distribution system. The requirements are to satisfy proper customer demands at a distribution center and to maintain over the utilization of the whole system at customers. This methodology minimizes total inventory investment at a distribution center and customers.

  • Demand response provides customer load reductions based on high market prices or system reliability conditions. One type of demand response, price-based program, induces customers to respond to changes in product rates. However, there are large-scale general and industrial customers that have difficulty changing their energy consumption patterns, even with rate changes, due to their electricity demands being commercial and industrial. This study proposes an in-house pricing model for large-scale general and industrial customers, particularly those with multiple business facilities, for self-regulating demand-side management and cost reduction. The in-house pricing model charges higher rates to customers with lower load factors by employing peak to off-peak ratios in order to reduce maximum demand at each facility. The proposed scheme has been applied to real world and its benefits are demonstrated through an example.

  • Wireless communication technology has mainly been used to fulfill the demands of industrial sites at which performance is not a critical concern. However, ongoing discussions and efforts are now focused on securing core wireless communication technologies to enable the transformation or expansion of wired industrial IoT (Internet of Things) network technology into a flexible and dynamic smart manufacturing system. This paper provides an overview of current wireless industrial IoT network technology and the recent wireless time-sensitive networking technology. It outlines the challenging level of reliability required for wireless communication technology to coexist with or replace its wired counterpart in future smart manufacturing systems. Additionally, we introduce ultra-reliable time deterministic network as the core technology of wireless industrial communications and focus on its reliability and delay characteristics.

  • The principal aims of the review paper are (1) to establish broad overview information, both qualitative and quantitative, relating to the world market for polyacrylonitrile (PAN) or pitch-based carbon fibers; and (2) to generate an effective analysis and break down of consumption by process route and eventual end-use. The review paper also designed specifically to provide subscribers with an accurate, independent, and realistic assessment of the current status and future perspective of the market for carbon fibers in the world. The world market for carbon fibers continues to grow rapidly, fuelled by new industrial end uses, such as sport and leisure goods, aerospace, automotive applications, civil engineering and infrastructure repair, and immerging applications in energy generation. Demands for properties of carbon fibers used in those applications include many things such as strength, toughness, fatigue property, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, etc., and these become to be higher level. On the other hand, demands for manufacturing technologies of carbon fibers become to be difficult with these demands for properties, and these are wide variety such as high efficiencies, high qualities, many functions, labor saving, and low cost. In this review paper, thus, the recent carbon fibers corresponded to these needs, and its latest manufacturing technologies as well as market prospects are described.
