  • A motion controller has been used variously in industry such as semiconductor manufacture equipment, industrial robot, assembly/conveyor line applications and CNC equipment. There are several types of controller in motion control. One of these is a PC-based motion controller such as PCI or ISA, and another is stand-alone motion controller. The PC bus-based motion controller is popular because of improving bus architectures and GUI (Graphic User Interface) that offer convenience of use to user. There are some problems in this. The PC bus-based solution allows for only one of the form factors, so it has a poor flexibility. The overall system package size is bigger than other motion control system. And also, additional axes of control require additional slot, however the number of slots is limited. Furthermore, unwieldy and many wirings come to connect plants or I/O. The stand-alone motion controller has also this limit of axes of control and wiring problems. To resolve these problems, controller must have capability of operating as stand-alone devices that resides outside the computer and it needs network capability to communicate to each motion device. In this paper, a network-based stand-alone motion system is proposed. This system integrates PC and motion controller into one stand-alone motion system, and uses CAN (Controller Area Network) as network protocol. Single board computer that is type of 3.5" FDD form factor is used to reduce the system size and cost. It works with Windows XP Embedded as operating system. This motion system operates by itself or serves as master motion controller that communicates to slave motion controller. The Slave motion controllers can easily connect to master motion system through CAN-network.

  • A driving controller for active destruction protections can be applied to machinery, aerospace and military fields. In particular, this controller can be used to track and attack enemy flying objects through the active control. It is important to ensure reliability of the driving controller since its operation should be kept with precision to the target point. The temperature of the environment where the driving controller is used is about -32 C ~ 50 C (241~323 ). Heat generated in the driving controller should be maintained below a certain threshold (85 C (358 )) to ensure reliability; therefore, the study and analysis of the heat flow characteristics in the driving controller are required. In this research, commercial software Solid-Works Flow Simulation was used for the numerical simulation assuming a low Reynolds number turbulence model and an incompressible viscous flow. The goal of this paper is to design the driving controller safely by analyzing the characteristics of the heat flow inside of the controller composed of chips or boards. Our analysis shows temperature distributions for boards and chips below a certain threshold.

  • Nowadays, the PV systems have been focused on the grid connection between the power source and the grid. The PV inverter can be considered as the core of the whole system because of an important role in the grid-interfacing operation. An important issue in the inverter control is the load current regulation. In the literature, Proportional Integral (PI) controller, which is normally used in the current-controlled Voltage Source Inverter (VSI), cannot be a satisfactory controller for an AC system because of the steady-sate error and the poor disturbance rejection, especially in high-frequency range. Compared with conventional PI controller, Proportional Resonant (PR) controller can introduce an infinite gain at the fundamental frequency of the AC source; hence it can achieve the zero steady-state error without requiring the complex transformation and the de-coupling technique. Theoretical analyses of both PI and PR controller are presented and verified by simulation and experiment. Both controller are implemented in a 32-bit fixed-point TMS320F2812 DSP processor and evaluated on a 3kW experimental prototype PV Power Conditioning System (PCS). Simulation and experimental results are shown to verify the controller performances.

  • In this paper, a new motor driving circuit is designed to improve the output performance of DC motor, and a controller is developed with the designed circuit. By the designed driving circuit, a controller can continuously drive DC motors by a transformer which has switching signals of a self-generated circuit to operate it. And while the DC motor have a maximum velocity, the reference voltage can be maintained higher value than that of triangle voltage and it makes the DC motor driving transistor ON and maximum power. A 24V-500W DC motor controller is developed with the proposed motor driving circuit, and also a small electric car is made and the driving test of it is executed. The test results shows that it can continuously control go and back speed of motor with 12A driving current. And also, it is verified that the over current and heat detecting function is operating correctly and the rest value of the used battery can be displayed as 6 step from 20 to 100%.

  • Industrial robots are powerful, extremely accurate multi-jointed systems, but they are heavy and highly rigid because of their mechanical structure and motorization. Therefore, sharing the robot working space with its environment is problematic. A novel pneumatic artificial muscle actuator (PAM actuator) has been regarded during the recent decades as an interesting alternative to hydraulic and electric actuators. Its main advantages are high strength and high power/weight ratio, low cost, compactness, ease of maintenance, cleanliness, readily available and cheap power source, inherent safety and mobility assistance to humans performing tasks. The PAM is undoubtedly the most promising artificial muscle for the actuation of new types of industrial robots such as Rubber Actuator and PAM manipulators. However, some limitations still exist, such as the air compressibility and the lack of damping ability of the actuator bring the dynamic delay of the pressure response and cause the oscillatory motion. In addition, the nonlinearities in the PAM manipulator still limit the controllability. Therefore, it is not easy to realize motion with high accuracy and high speed and with respect to various external inertia loads in order to realize a human-friendly therapy robot To overcome these problems a novel controller, which harmonizes a phase plane switching control method with conventional PID controller and the adaptabilities of neural network, is newly proposed. In order to realize satisfactory control performance a variable damper - Magneto-Rheological Brake (MRB) is equipped to the joint of the manipulator. Superb mixture of conventional PID controller and a phase plane switching control using neural network brings us a novel controller. This proposed controller is appropriate for a kind of plants with nonlinearity uncertainties and disturbances. The experiments were carried out in practical PAM manipulator and the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm was demonstrated through experiments, which had proved that the stability of the manipulator can be improved greatly in a high gain control by using MRB with phase plane switching control using neural network and without regard for the changes of external inertia loads.

  • This paper presents a controller implementation using model based controller design programs-System Identification Toolkit, Control Design Toolkit, Simulation module. This method is easier and simpler than conventional controller design method. To implement speed control system of DC motor, a CompactRIO, Real-Time(RT) cntroller provided by NI(National Instruments), is used as hardware equipment. Firstly transfer function of DC motor drive system, which was a control target plant, can be acquired through System Identification Toolkit by using test input signal applied to motor and output signal from motor. And designing of pole-zero compensator satisfying desired control response performance through Control Design Toolkit, designed speed control response can be tested through Simulation Module. Finally LabVIEW program is converted to real-time program and downloaded to CompactRIO real-time controller Through experimental results to real DC motor drive system, designed speed control response is compared to simulation results.

  • There are a lot of methods available in designing PID(Proportional-Integral-Derivative) and Lead/Lag controllers in the industrial field of technology because of their useful advantages such as simplicity and robustness. In an early stage of development process, a computational simulation approach is a very efficient tool for the designs of the controllers. Thus, in this paper we propose a cost-effective, and practically efficient. The PID and Lead/Lag controllers. To show the effectiveness of the proposed Lead/Lag controller, we compare and contrast of the simulation results of each controller with the Matlab simulator. Although we have only considered the DC motors for the controllers, but it could be extended in future developments to more complex plants. As a result, the proposed frameworks could be used to solve industrial problems such as a reduction in development cycle time and minimizing system errors.

  • Wind turbine system can obtain the maximum wind energy using torque control under the rated wind speed, and wind turbine power is controlled as the rated power using pitch control over the rated wind speed. In this paper, we present a method for wind turbine pitch controller using neural networks. The purpose of the pitch control is to control generator speed and power in the above rated wind speed. To improve the neural network pitch controller, the difference between a rated and current speed of generator has been used for another input of neural networks as well as wind speed. Error back-propagation algorithm is used for training the neural network pitch controller and simulation and Matlab/Simulink is used for verifying that this system is controlled well.
