  • We propose a new global positioning method for the indoor mobile robots. The multiple indoor lights fixed in ceiling are used as the landmarks of positioning system. The ceiling images are acquired by the fisheye lens camera mounted on the moving robot. The position and orientation of the lights are extracted by binarization and labeling techniques. Also the boundary lines between ceiling and walls are extracted to identify the order of each light. The robot position is then calculated from the extracted position and known position of the lights. The proposed system can increase the accuracy and reduce the computation time comparing with the other positioning methods using natural landmark. Experimental results are presented to show the performance of the method.

  • Future electric lights will be composed of white LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). Indoor wireless optical communication systems utilizing white LED lights have been studying about it. Generally, plural lights are installed in room. Therefore, their optical path difference must be considered. In this paper, the influence of an optical path difference has been investigated and two approaches against this problem are introduced. One uses OOK-RZ (On-Off Keying, Return-to-Zero) coding and the other uses optical OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). From the results of computer simulations, we have found that these approaches are feasible for the wireless optical communication systems utilizing white LED lights.

  • In recent years, along with the rapid development of LED technology, indoor positioning systems based on visible light communication (VLC) have been researched. In this paper, we propose an accurate indoor positioning method using white-light LEDs and a dual image sensor. Indoor LED lights are located at the ceiling in a room and broadcast information on their positions using VLC technology. A mobile device with a dual image sensor receives LED position information by VLC and estimates its position and azimuth angle. Simulation and experimental results are given to show the performance of the proposed indoor positioning system.

  • Recently, because of complex cultural space, underground space are becoming larger. Therefore, the demand for location-based services is growing. VLC (Visible Light Communication) is based on the LED lighting infrastructure so that suitable LBS (Location-based service) is possible for the targeted places in indoor space. To experiment with indoor LBS by VLC, we measure the identification distance according to variable angles between LED and photo diode. We send the different ASCII code for each LED light, then we found the maximum identification distance is 1.75m from LED lights. From the results of this experiment, we show that indoor navigation is possible.

  • Visual Environment and productivity are correlated. So we need to create a comfortable visual environment and maintain proper workplane illumination level. We can obtain lighting energy savings and comfortable visual environment using daylight and LED lights. In this study, we characterized the indoor illuminance level according to the sky condition and proposed dimming control strategy of LED lights. Energy savings in On/Off control mode are 40% at clear sky and 28% at intermediate sky. In dimming control mode, energy savings are 77.2% at clear sky and 64.1% at intermediate sky. Then we obtain the appropriate dimming control strategy of LED lights based on data. Dimming rates are 0-14.2-80(min-avg-max, %) for LED 1, 0-19.9-60% for LED 2 and 30-61.4-90% for LED 3. Lighting energy savings are 68.2% for LED dimming system applied this control method.

  • In outdoor visible light communication channels and LED road illumination communications for the intelligent transport systems (ITS), inter symbol interference (ISI) due to multipath propagation prevents high data rate transmission. Indoor wireless optical communication systems utilizing white LED lights and on the road illumination have been studying about it. Generally, plural lights are installed in room and considered to the traffic information system using existing LED traffic lights. Therefore, their optical path difference must be considered. In this paper, the influence of an optical path difference has been investigated and two approaches against this problem are introduced. • This study is to investigate the utilization of Indoor Proscenium Stage Zone Lighting method in the dancing performance. In other words, it is about how we can utilize the principle of zone lighting in dancing performance, a kind of stage art. Stage lights give lights on the stage. Therefore they play big and important roles in dancing performances. Lightings make big influence on the overall atvosphere and situations of the dancing work but most of dancers do not perceive their importance and furthermore they don't know about the lightings very well. To let them know about stage lightings better, we studied lightings form the perspective of the dancers who face the lightings without great knowledge thresh the articles and literature related general lightings and lighting design, books related to stage lightings and dancing lightings, previous studies and academic articles. The most important part of this study is to understand and utilize the principle of zone lightiing. Zone lighting is generally called as cross lighting, which means single light from the crossed two lights. When looking into the principle of the zone lighting of the Indoor Proscenium Stage, it means 45 degree lighting from both sides of the top form the point of the dancer When more than two lights are used, the angle of the light should be $90^{\circ}$or 120. It is the principle of the lighting technology showing the face and body of the dancers ing three dimension. Applying for the principle of this zone lighting to the dancing performance of Indoor Proscenium Stage, the lighting methods and the usage of the lightings were studied. As shown above, the role of the lighting is very important in dancing configuration. We hope that the perception on the dancing lighting will be changed and studies on the dancing lightings. By understanding and applying more principles of lighting, we will make efforts to make better dancing performance and dancing conporsers and dancers shall make more efforts and studies on lighting for better works. Through such efforts, we can have more experts and professionals In dancing lighting field and they will help us to describe and express the intention of the dancing work better as dancing artists. We hope that there will be better quality performances through more and diversified studies in this field.

  • In this paper, the algorithm which improve the efficiency of surveillance in spite of the change of light is proposed and confirmed by virtue of the experiments. One of the problems for the implementation of visual surveillance system is the image processing technique to overcome with the variations of illumination lights. Some conventional systems are generally not considered the error due to the change of lights because the system use at indoor. In practical, the factors of bad image can be classified to the ghosts due to the reflection of lights and shadows in a scene. Especially weak images and noises at night are decreased the performance of visual surveillance system. In the paper, the filter which improve the images with some change of illumination lights is designed and the gabor filter is used for recognition and tracking of the moving objects. In the results, the system showed that the recognition and tracking were obtained $92\sim100%$ of recognition rate at daytime, but $80\sim90%$ of nighttime.

  • In this paper, we present an indoor positioning system based on light emitting diode (LED). Because LED is a semiconductor light emitting device, we can easily switch and modulate electrical signals into lightwave signals at high speed using LEDs. We assigned unique 8-bit ID address to each LED lights. Photo diode receives data from 16-LED lights and takes correlation coefficient beteween received data and each LED-ID. Using correlation coefficient, proposed positioning system shows resolution of 50 cm in dimensions of $4\;m\;{\times}\;4\;m\;{\times}\;2\;m$.

  • As professional postnatal care systems have been rapidly supplied, there is sharp increase of postnatal care centers without legal regulations for a mother and a infant. For the quick recovery of mothers, newborn infants that have weaker immune systems are being managed in group in the postnatal care centers. Recently, the attention of the postnatal care centers has been growing because the problem of pneumonia which led to result in a casuality in a infant unit was happen. So, this research analyzed the indoor environment of infant unit through measuring formaldehyde, carbon dioxide, intensity of illumination. As a result of the data, infant units showed higher concentration of formaldehyde and carbon dioxide than Indoor Air Quality Control Law. Moreover, infant units was measured higher intensity of illumination than the range of optimum illumination for infants.
