  • Ubiquitous location based services (u-LBS) will be interested to an important services. They can easily recognize object position at anytime, anywhere. At present, many researchers are making a study of the position recognition and tracking. This paper consists of postion recognition and user identification system. The position recognition is based on location under services (LBS) using a signal strength map, a database is previously made use of empirical measured received signal strength indicator (RSSI). The user identification system automatically controls instruments which is located in home. Moreover users are able to measures body signal freely. We implemented the multi-hop routing method using the Star-Mesh networks. Also, we use the sensor devices which are satisfied with the IEEE 802.15.4 specification. The used devices are the Nano-24 modules in Octacomm Co. Ltd. A RSSI is very important factor in position recognition analysis. It makes use of the way that decides position recognition and user identification in narrow indoor space. In experiments, we can analyze properties of the RSSI, draw the parameter about position recognition. The experimental result is that RSSI value is attenuated according to increasing distances. It also derives property of the radio frequency (RF) signal. Moreover, we express the monitoring program using the Microsoft C#. Finally, the proposed methods are expected to protect a sudden death and an accident in home.

  • In this paper, a method of removing the space skew and cross-talk cancellation is proposed where the self-generated signals from the subject are used to obtain the subject's location. In the proposed method, the good spatial sound image is maintained even when the listener moves from the sweet spot. Two major parts of the proposed method are as follows: listener position tracking using the stimuli from the subject and removal of the space skew and cross-talk signals. Listener position tracking is achieved by estimation of the time difference of arrival (TDoA). The position of the listener is then computed using the Talyer-series estimation method. The head-related transfer functions (HRTF) are used to remove the space skew and cross-talk signals, where the direction of the HRTF is given by the one estimated from the listener position tracking. The performance evaluation is carried out on the signals from the 100 subjects that are composed of the 50 female and 50 male subjects. The positioning accuracy is achieved by 70%~90%, under the condition that the mean squared positioning error is less than $0.07m^2$. The subjective listening test is also conducted where the 27 out of the 30 subjects are participated. According to the results, 70% of the subjects indicates that the overall quality of the reproduced sound from the proposed method are improved, regardless of the subject's position.

  • The real-time indoor location technology using radio waves has been studied in a variety of environments. One of them, a ship which consists of steel structure has high reception rate but causes significant ranging error due to the reflection of radio waves. In order to reduce location measurement errors that occurs in such a environment, this paper, based on CSS of IEEE 802.15.4a, presents compensation algorithm for localization using modified bilateration and pyroelectric sensor in a ship. The proposed system reduces the number of fixed nodes by estimating the appropriate reception distance between mobile node and fixed node through the analysis of CSS characteristic in a narrow passage such as ship corridors. Also, in the corner section which the ranging errors are significantly fluctuated due to the reflection and diffraction of radio waves, we recognize the location by tracking the a moving section using modified bilateration technique and pyroelectric sensor. The experimental results show that the location accuracy and efficiency of the proposed algorithm are improved 86.2 % compared to general method.

  • As Internet of Things (IoT) technology advances, there is a growing demand for location-based services (LBSs) to identify users' mobility and identity. The initial LBS system was mainly used to measure position information by measuring the phase of a signal transmitted from a global positioning system (GPS) satellite or by measuring distance to a satellite by tracking the code of a carrier signal. However, the use of GPS satellites is ineffective, because it is difficult to receive satellite signals indoors. Therefore, research on wireless communications systems like ultra-wide band (UWB), radio frequency identification (RFID), and ZigBee are being actively pursued for location recognition technology that can be utilized in an indoor environment. In this paper, we propose an LBS system that includes the 2.45GHz band for chirp spread spectrum (CSS), and the 3.1-10.6GHz band and the 250-750MHz bands for UWB using the IEEE 802.15.4a standard for low power-based location recognition. As a result, we confirmed that the 2.45GHz Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band RF transceiver and the ranging function can be realized in the hardware and has 0dBm output power.

  • In this paper, 2-dimensional backtracking method for ultrasonic signals. Ultrasonic sensors are a common technology used in industrial fields as many studies have been conducted on distance measurement and indoor location tracking using transmission and reception devices in pairs. A method for tracking a signal of an arbitrary ultrasonic transmission device on a 2D plane using only a receiver of an ultrasonic signal is proposed. In order to track the ultrasonic signal, the receiver receives the signal by making at least three. The three receivers may calculate a direction and a distance using a time difference in which the ultrasound reception sound is reached. The existing method of tracking signal sources using ultrasonic waves has a problem of time synchronization of devices because the transceivers must be paired or installed independently for each sensor. In order to solve this problem, the distance of the ultrasonic receiver is minimized, and it is configured as one device. The sensor installed as one device may be processed by one operator, thereby solving the time synchronization problem. To increase time difference accuracy, high-speed 32-bit timers with high time resolution can be used to quickly calculate and track distances and directions.

  • In this study, travel time data collection of mine equipments was conducted in an underground mine using a reverse Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) system. In the reverse RFID system, RFID readers and antennas are mounted on mine equipments, and RFID tags are attached to the underground mine gallery. Indoor experiments were performed to analyze how RFID reader transmission power levels affect tag readable area and tag recognition rates. The results showed that travel time measurement become precise when the reader transmission power was reduced, however tag recognition rates were reduced. The field experiments indicated that setting the reader transmission power to 28 dBm maintained the tag recognition rate while minimizing the tracking location error. In addition, the results revealed that the reverse RFID system can be used successfully in an underground mine to collect the travel time data of haulage trucks.

  • Some infrastructure these days is usually constructed under the ground for it to not interfere the foot-traffic of pedestrians, and thus, it is difficult to visually confirm the accurate location of the site where the establishments must be buried. These technical difficulties increase the magnitude of the problems that could arise from over-reliance on the experience of the worker or a mere blueprint. Such problems include exposure to flood and collapse. This paper proposes a constructor-oriented visualization system via mobile gadgets in general construction sites with occluded structures. This proposal is consisted with three stages. First, "Stage of detecting manhole and extracting features" detects and extracts the basis point of occluded structures which is unoccluded manhole. Next, "Stage of tracking features" tracks down the extracted features in the previous stage. Lastly, "Stage of visualizing occluded constructions" analyzes and synthesizes the GPS data and 3D objects obtained from mobile gadgets in the previous stages. This proposal implemented ideal method through parallel analysis of manhole detection, feature extraction, and tracking techniques in indoor environment, and confirmed the possibility through occluded water-pipe augmentation in real environment. Also, it offers a practical constructor-oriented environment derived from the augmented 3D results of occluded water-pipings.

  • In this paper the problem of a moving control of an automatic guided vehicle(AGV) which transports a dead body to a designated cinerator safely in a crematorium, an special indoor environment, will be discussed. Since a method of burying guided lines in the floor is not proper to such an environment, a method of moving control of an AGV based on infrared ray sensors is now proposed. With this approach, the AGV emits infrared ray to the landmarks adheres to the ceiling to find a moving direction and then moves that direction by recognizing them. One of the typical problems for this method is that dead zone and/or overlapping zone may exist when the landmarks are deployed. To resolve this problem, an algorithm of recognizing double landmarks at each time is applied to minimize occurrences of sensing error. In addition, at the turning area to entering the designated cinerator, to fit an AGV with the entrance of the designated cinerator, an algorithm of controlling the velocity of both the inner and outer wheel of it. The functional correctness of our proposed algorithm has been verified by using a prototype vehicle. Our real AGV system has been applied to a crematorium and it moves automatically within an allowable range of location error.
