  • This study identifies the foot shapes of elderly women by classifying foot type according to the 3D shape of the foot and 2D sole type analyzing individual characteristics. The subjects were 295 elderly women over 60 years of age who live in Gwangju. A foot scanner (K&I Technology $Nexcan^{(R)}$) was used to obtain three-dimensional shapes of feet and a flat bad scanner (HP Scanjet G2410) was used to obtain the two-dimensional shapes of soles. The anthropometric measuring items consisted of 59 items estimated on the right foot of each subject. Data were analyzed by various statistical methods such as factor analysis, ANOVA and cluster analysis using the SPSS 19.0 statistical program. To classify the side type of elderly women's feet, three-dimensional measurement data were analyzed for the 27 measurement items using factor analysis and 6 factors were extracted (inside height and side gradient, ankle thickness, toe height and midfoot size, lateral malleolus height, instep, and heel height and gradient). A cluster analysis resulted in three types: 36.5% belonged to Type 1 (high forefoot and high midfoot), 31.1% belonged to Type 2 (high forefoot and low midfoot), and 32.4% belonged to Type 3 (low forefoot and high midfoot). The distribution was relatively even. For the sole, 8 factors were extracted (ball width and medial foot protrusion, lateral foot protrusion, forefoot and hindfoot length ratio, ball gradient, heel size, toe breadth, lateral ball length, and foot length) and a cluster analysis resulted in three Types (Type H, Type D, and Type A). The largest proportion (42.7%) belonged to Type H, which is the same as the elderly men's case.

  • This paper deals with a behavior based decentralized control strategy for UAV swarming utilizing the artificial potential functions and the sliding mode control technique. Individual interactions for swarming behavior are modeled using the artificial potential functions. The motion of individual UAV is directed toward the negative gradient of the combined potential. For tracking the reference trajectory of UAV swarming, a swarming center is considered as the object of control. The sliding-mode control technique is adopted to make the proposed swarm control strategy robust with respect to the system uncertainties and the varying mission environment. Numerical simulation is performed to verify the performance of the proposed controller.

  • Objectives : Paeng-hwal is described as an insect herbal medicine used for digestive diseases in the Dong-ui-bo-gam. The origin of this herbal medicine is limited to several small crabs, such as Helice tridens. These crab species cohabitat in the same environment and share similar morphological characteristics, making it very difficult to distinguish and collect the individual species for use in dietary supplements or herbal medicines. This study was conducted to develop a genetic identification tool for discriminating among these closely related small crab species. Methods : CO1 DNA barcode regions of 15 samples from 6 species of small crabs were analyzed to obtain the individual sequences. To identify the correct species, comparative analyses were carried out using the database of the NCBI GenBank and the NIBR. SCAR primers were designed to develop simple and rapid assay methods using inter-species specific sequences. Optimal SCAR assay conditions were established through gradient PCR, and the limit of detection (LOD) was determined. Results : Six species of small crabs (Helicana tridens, Macrophthalmus abbreviatus, Helicana tientsinensis, Helicana wuana, Chiromantes dehaani, and Hemigrapsus penicillatus), which are distributed as Paeng-hwal, were identified through CO1 sequences analysis. We also developed SCAR markers to distinguish between six small crabs at the species level. Furthermore, we established the optimal PCR assay methods and the LOD of each individual species. Conclusions : The rapid and simple SCAR-PCR assay methods were developed to identify the species and control the quality of herbal medicines for Paeng-hwal based on the genetic analyses of CO1 DNA barcodes.

  • This study used the OLS model to estimate the determinants affecting the tenure of a home and then compared the predictive power of each model with SVM, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, XGBooest and LightGBM. There is a difference from the preceding study in that the Stacking model, one of the ensemble models, can be used as a base model to establish a more predictable model to identify the volume of housing transactions in the housing market. OLS analysis showed that sales profits, housing prices, the number of household members, and the type of residential housing (detached housing, apartments) affected the period of housing ownership, and compared the predictability of the machine learning model with RMSE, the results showed that the machine learning model had higher predictability. Afterwards, the predictive power was compared by applying each machine learning after rebuilding the data with the influencing variables, and the analysis showed the best predictive power of Random Forest. In addition, the most predictable Random Forest, Decision Tree, Gradient Boosting, and XGBooost models were applied as individual models, and the Stacking model was constructed using Linear, Ridge, and Lasso models as meta models. As a result of the analysis, the RMSE value in the Ridge model was the lowest at 0.5181, thus building the highest predictive model.

  • A novel foveation filter method is proposed in DCT domain. For countering the blocking and ringing artifacts, we devise the tools measuring the signal gradient, the block signal variations in the DCT domain. Each measurement is properly applied to each enhancement region and smoothing region. The proposed method optimally adapts the enhancement factors to the characteristics of the underlying signals and so maximizes the enhancement performances with significantly suppressing the artifacts. The subjective and objective evaluations verify that the proposed method sustains producing the improved video qualities for various sequences without tuning any parameters to individual sequences.

  • This study examined the deletion of onset consonant in the word-internal structure in spontaneous Seoul Korean speech. It used the dataset of speakers in their 20s extracted from the Korean Corpus of Spontaneous Speech (Yun et al., 2015). The proportion of deletion of word-internal onset consonants was analyzed using the linear mixed-effects regression model. The factors that promoted the deletion of onsets were primarily the types of consonants and their phonetic contexts. The results showed that onset deletion was more likely to occur for a lenis velar stop [k] than the other consonants, and in the phonetic contexts, when the preceding vowel was a low central vowel [a]. Moreover, some speakers tended to more frequently delete onset consonants (e.g., [k] and [n]) than other speakers, which reflected individual differences. This study implies that word-internal onsets undergo a process of gradient reduction within individuals' articulatory strategies.

  • Images taken with the Chandra X-ray telescope have for the the first time revealed the central, wind-driven, hot bubble (Chu et al. 2001), while Hubble Space Telescope (HST) WFPC2 images of the Cat's Eye nebula, NGC 6543, show that the temperature of the halo region of angular radius ~ 20", is much higher than that of the inner bright H II region. With the coupling of a photoionization calculation to a hydrodynamic simulation, we predict the observed 〔O III〕 line intensities of the halo region with the same O abundance as in the core H II region: oxygen abundance gradient does not appear to exist in the NGC 6543 inner halo. An interaction between a (leaky) fast stellar wind and halo gas may cause the higher excitation temperatures in the halo region and the inner hot bubble region observed with the Chandra X-ray telescope.

  • NGC 6716 is an intermediate-age open cluster in Sagittarius. In this paper, we present the new UBV CCD photometry of the stars in the cluster, which is deeper than previous ones. From the color-color diagram and the color-magnitude diagram, we derived a reddening $E_{B- V} = 0.17\pm0.03$ and a distance modulus of the cluster, $(V - Mv)_o = 9.2\pm0.1$. An age of the cluster is estimated as $8\pm10^7 yrs$ from the latest isochrone. Luminosity function and mass function of the cluster are derived. The gradient of the mass function of bright stars is a bit steep, $\Gamma = -1.85\pm0.05$, and there is no distinct bump and dip in the mass function.

  • This paper presents a magnetization modeling method combined with material sensitivity information to identify the unknown magnetization distribution of a hull and improve the accuracy of the predicted fields. First, based on the magnetization modeling, the hull surface was divided into three-dimensional sheet elements, where the individual remanent magnetization was assumed to be constant. For a fast search of the optimum magnetization distribution on the hull, a material sensitivity formula containing the first-order gradient information of an objective function was combined with the magnetization modeling method. The feature of the proposed method is that it can provide a stable and accurate field solution, even in the vicinity of the hull. Finally, the validity of the method was tested using a scale model ship.

  • Ab initio quantum chemical molecular orbital calculations have been performed for the unimolecular decomposition of methacrylonitrile ($CH_3C(CN)=CH_2$), especially for HCN and $H_2$ molecular elimination channels. Structures and energies of the reactants, products, and relevant species along the individual reaction pathways were determined by MP2 gradient optimization and MP4 single point energy calculations. Direct four-center elimination of HCN and three-center elimination of H2 channels were identified. In addition, H or CN migration followed by HCN or H2 elimination channels via the methylcyanoethylidene intermediate was also identified. Unlike the case of crotonitrile previously studied, in which the dominant decomposition process was the direct three-center elimination of HCN, the most important reaction pathway should be the direct threecenter elimination of $H_2$ in the case of methacrylonitrile.
