  • This study sought to explore factors affecting the adjustment of children living in shelters for battered women. Specifically, the impact of domestic violence on children's internal and external adjustment was examined using data from two samples: children who were exposed to marital violence and those who did not have violent experience. Likewise, this study identified the variables that distinguished the "resilient" children from the maladjusted group. The pathways by which protective factors considerably affected children's adjustment were also investigated. A total of 72 children in a women's shelter and their mothers and 76 children in nonviolent homes and their mothers were considered. ANOVA, logistic regression models, and path analysis were employed to process the data. Results revealed that children of battered women demonstrated a high frequency of aggressive and delinquent behaviors and had poor academic achievement and depressive mood compared to children coming from nonviolent homes. Likewise, children who were exposed to marital violence and were physically abused themselves were more likely show aggressive or delinquent behaviors compared to those who only witnessed marital violence. In addition, social support was found to be a protective factor in academic achievement. Predictors of delinquent behavior included the mother's education and income as well as the children's age and social support. Factors related to children's self-esteem included the social support and the mother's self-esteem. Moreover, woman battering has a direct effect on children's adjustment as well as indirect effect through children's academic achievement and self-esteem. Finally, woman battering indirectly affected children's academic achievement through the mother's depression or the child's social support. Based on these findings, practical implications of enhancing children's adjustment were discussed.

  • This study is focused on subjective images that are produced before visualization in the digital information environment and on characteristics of objective, dynamic image expression that specifies the subjective images. In this study, the visual world that works in the action of "see"is expanded into vision of eyes, vision of brain, and vision of camera. Also we have redefined the definitions of image and its materialized image, yeongsang. It is defined that image contains a strong meaning of consciousness and mind, and that yeongsang involves vision in which constantly changing information of light is created and reproduced by physical processes. We made it clear that image expression in the 21 st century is becoming more generalized, simplified, and concentrated, by the digital technology, from existing specific non-real images to "informationalized" non-real images. This means that there exists an intrinsic difference in the expressional form of the modern analog environment and that of the recent digital environment in the area of yeongsang communication. Along with development of technology, image information raises plastic reality through indirect experience in the virtual space by expanding the sensual faculty of human. However, there also is a tendency for humans to rely more on technology instead of utilizing their creative faculty. Image expression by“the digital information environment” in the 21st century will pursue two sides; one is to shift from external expression of the human body in the cyber space to internal expression, and the other is to internalize the image world and make it connected worldwide. Further research is necessary in these fields.ary in these fields.

  • The results of analyzing the cognition of CPR by college students who major in public health or not order to enhance the educational efficiency of first aid ability and its expansion are as follows. 1. In case of students majoring in public health, the students who have the knowledge of term 'CPR' are 95.3% of total 300 students and 62.6% of the students who don't major in public health know it. In the item test of examining the degree of theoretical knowledge of CPR, the cases who know all 12 items are 5.2% and 1.6% respectively in cases who major in public health and don't major in it and it is judged that the extension of educational opportunity for them should be urgent. 2. The students who have experienced the practice of CPR are 20.6% in case who major in public health and 7.4% in other case. Therefore it seems to desirable that indirect field experience should be obtained by strengthening practice centered education. 3. The order of practice to examine the CPR ability is asked and the students who show very good remark are just 21~22% in both cases and they conducted very ineffective CPR and it is examined that they did first aid which may a serious damage to patients. Then the cases who recovered pulse and respiration after CPR were very low as 28.8% in the students who major in public health and 35.7% in others. It is therefore considered that the exact education of conducting the maintenance of respiratory trace, artificial respiration and CPR is necessary. 4. The cases who had the education of CPR were 51% in the students who major in public health and 39.4% in others, who had little opportunities to have CPR and 92.5~93.2% in both groups fee the necessity of continuous education and it is very encouraging to extend the education of CPR. 5. The education of CPR is mainly done at school (70.3~79.4%) and from teachers (52.7~55.4%) and 71.2% of the students majoring in public health responded that it is good for them to have education of CPR at school and lecture by first-aider and 58.9% of others did it. The cases who ask for lecture by the Professors of Dept. of First-Aid are 11.8 in students majoring in public health and 13.1% in others and it is judged that lecture by them having the theoretical foundation and first-aider with practical ability will be desirable. 6. On teaching methods, 57.5% of the cases majoring in public health and 63.3% of others ask for practice and 20% of both groups need theory centered teaching. 7. On lecture fee, 83% of the cases majoring in public health and 83.3% of others consider it should be free and 8~11.8% who are to pay for 10,000 won and it is judged that it should be opened and operated as liberal arts by college in the dimension of lifelong education. 8. On the objects of education, 83% of cases majoring in public health and 66.6% of others consider it should be conducted in people of all ages and both sexes and it is known that everyone recognizes the necessity of popularizing the education of first-aid.

  • Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease. Although the joints are the major loci of the disease activity, fatigue is a common extraarticular symptom that exists in all gradations of rheumatoid arthritis. Fatigue is defined as a subjective sense of generalized tiredness or exhaustion and has multiple dimensions. Therefore fatigue is a common and frequent problem for those with rheumatoid arthritis. In fact, 88-100% of individuals with rheumatoid arthritis experience fatigue. Especially the degree of fatigue is higher in women than men with rheumatoid arthritis. Despite the importance of fatigue among the patients with rheumatoid arthritis, the mechanism that leads to fatigue in rheumatoid arthritis is not completely understood. This study was intended to test and validate a model to predict fatigue in women with rheumatoid arthritis. Especially it was intended to identify the direct and indirect effects of the variables of pain, disability, depression, sleep disturbance, morning stiffness, and symptom duration to fatigue. Data were collected by questionnaires including Multidimensional Assesment of Fatigue(Tack, 1991), numeric scale of pain, graphic scale of joints, Ritchie Articular Index, Korean Health Assessment Questionnaire(Bae, et al., 1998), Inventory of Function Status(Tulman, et al., 1991), Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression, and Korean Sleep Scale(Oh, et al 1998). The sample consisted of 345 women with a mean duration of rheumatoid arthritis for 10.06 years and a mean age of 49.64 years. SPSS win and Win LISREL were used for the data analysis. Structural equation modeling revealed the overall fit of the model. Pain predicted fatigue directly and indirectly through disability, depression, and sleep disturbance. Disability, sleep disturbance predicted fatigue only directly, while depression only indirectly through disability and sleep disturbance. Also morning stiffness and symptom duration predicted fatigue through disability and depression. All predictors accounted for 65% of the variance of fatigue. Depression, pain, and disability predicted sleep disturbance. Depression had reciprocal relationship with disability and they both were predicted by pain directly and indirectly. In summary, pain, depression, disability, sleep disturbance, morning stiffness, and symptom duration contributed to the fatigue of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The best predictor of fatigue was pain. This finding indicates that the modification of pain, depression, disability, sleep disturbance, morning stiffness could be nursing intervention for relief or prevention of fatigue.

  • This study is to examine the relationship between leisure constraints, participation in Sports for All and subjective happiness among private guards. To attain the goal of the study described above paragraphs, private guards held in Seoul were set as a collected group. Then, using cluster random sampling method, finally drewout and analyzed 193 peoples in total. The result of reliability analysis check up was here below; Chronbach's ${\alpha}=\;.725$. The conclusion drawn from this study is as follows: First, leisure constraints influences on the participation experience in Sports for All. Second, leisure constraints influences on the participation degree in Sports for All. The increase of leisure constraints in peripheral aspects results in the decrease of participation term of Sports for All. And the increase of leisure constraints in individual, peripheral aspects results in of participation intensity in Sports for All. Third, leisure constraints influences on subjective happiness. Fourth, leisure constraints results in the retributive effect on participation in Sports for All and subjective happiness. Namely, leisure constraints results in the indirect effect on subjective happiness through the participation in Sports for All is an important variable intermediating the relationship between leisure constraints and subjective happiness.
