  • This study compared the effects of different frequencies of self-monitoring on safe sitting postures. Participants were four office workers. The dependent variable was the safety percentage for four body positions. The independent variable was self-monitoring frequency: high and low self-monitoring frequencies. Results showed that the safety percentage increased when self-monitoring was introduced. However, the effects of the two different self-monitoring frequencies on safe performance were not statistically different.

  • This research work deals with the development of a new Triangular finite element for the linear analysis of plate bending with transverse shear effect. It is developed in perspective to building shell elements. The displacements field of the element has been developed by the use of the strain-based approach and it is based on the assumed independent functions for the various components of strain insofar as it is allowed by the compatibility equations. Its formulation uses also concepts related to the fourth fictitious node, the static condensation and analytic integration. It is based on the assumptions of tick plate.s theory (Reissner-Mindlin theory). The element possesses three essential external degrees of freedom at each of the four nodes and satisfies the exact representation of the rigid body modes of displacements. As a result of this approach, a new bending plate finite element (Pep43) which is competitive, robust and efficient.

  • In order to manufacture a precision mold/die by machining, users need high speed & precision mold/die machining center. So, for development of this machine, we intend to use linear motor that is instead of ball-screw, servo-motor and coupling, high-speed spindle of pressurized air journal bearing and composite materials. In this paper we research column moving type and table moving type. The former is mainly piling 3 axes on one moving body, the latter is consist of two independent carriages. Both types are available to high speed & precision machine, but we finally draw a conclusion column moving type due to an advantage of high-speed control of linear motor.

  • The porvision against earthquakes and aseismic design of nuclear power plants (NPPs) in Korea are composed of four stages: site-selection, design, construction, and operation stages, Since regulatory criteria are strictly applied in each stage, the NPPs in Korea are believed to have a sufficient safety against maximum potential earthquakes. However, it has been recognized that those regulatory criteria borrowed from U.S. should be replace by Korea-specific ones by using earthquake data obtained from earthquake observation at and around NPP sites. Also, the government made a plan after the Yongwol and th Kyongju earthquakes that the regulatory body operates an independent earthquake network in order to reinforce the earthquake preparedness of NPPs. In compliance with the government's plan, this project is aiming at deployment of an earthquake motoring network composed of four seismic stations at NPP sites to record earthquake ground motions at NPP sites, to derive attenuation formulas of various ground motions and site-specific response spectra, and to develop structural intergrity assesment program.

  • In this paper a simple finite element is proposed for analyzing out of plane vibration of thin walled curved beams, with both open and closed sections, considering shear flexibility. The present element is obtained from a variational formulation governing the dynamics of a three-dimensional elastic body in which the stress tensor as well as the displacements are variationally independent. The element has two nodes with four degrees of freedom in each. Numerical examples for the first six frequencies are performed in order to assess the accuracy of the finite element formulation and to show the influence of the shear flexibility on the dynamics of the member.

  • This research is aimed at establishing nominal sizes for the clothes manufacturers by using the results from a comprehensive study with 6~9 year-old girls. From the results of the data analysis, we found the following points: 1) The stature and the weight, which have strong correlations with each part of the body, are selected as the independent variables. 2) The frequency-distribution was calculated from the variable quantities(Table 1~5). 3) The nominal size for the jacket, blouse, skirt, and trousers was estimated by the frequency-distribution(Table 6~9). 4) A multiple linear regression model to estimate the 18 items was formulated.

  • We have constructed a cDNA library from the whole body of the spider, Araneus ventricosus. Sequence analysis of randomly selected cDNA clones was performed to obtain genetic information on the spider A. ventricosus, of which genetic information is currently not available. We have partially sequenced randomly selected 385 clones of the cDNA library constructed from A. ventricosus. This expressed sequence tags (EST) analysis revealed 383 genes had high homologies to known genes in GenBank. In this report, 241 independent genes were analyzed in detail.

  • Purpose: This study evaluates the efficacy of a Self-Care Reinforcement Program (SCRP) based on the Selection Optimization Compensation (SOC) model, in socially vulnerable elderly women with metabolic syndrome. Methods: This study adopts a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The participants were 64 socially vulnerable elderly Korean women with metabolic syndrome (experimental group: 31, control group: 33). Participants' body composition analysis, nutrient intake, risk factors of metabolic syndrome, depressive symptoms, and social network were measured. Data were analyzed with an independent t-test; statistical significance levels were set at p<.05. The SCRP, including metabolic syndrome education, nutritional education, exercise, and social network, was performed three times a week for 8 weeks. Results: There were statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in terms of systolic blood pressure, diastolic pressure, fasting blood sugar, triglycerides, sodium intake, depressive symptoms, and social networks. Conclusion: The SCRP is effective and can be recommended as a community health nursing intervention for socially vulnerable elderly women with metabolic syndrome.

  • In this paper, adaptive controller with switching action is designed for rigid body robot manipulators to ensure the uniform stability of the manipulator system without a priori knowledge of the unmodeled dynamics. It will be shown that the parameter estimates are bounded independent of the other closed-loop signals boundedness, and also shown that the tracking error belongs to the normalized error bound via mathematical analisys. The robustness and performance of the proposed adaptive controller is investigated for the two-link direct drive manipulator actuated by VRM(Variable Reluctance Motor).

  • Purpose: The effective half life of I-131 is useful to calculate radiation dose, period of hospitalization, and exposure dose of surrounding people from patient. However, it is difficult to measure. This study estimates the effective half life in whole body and thyroid in using of value of residual radioactivity obtained from the early and delay images of Dual time I-131 whole body scan. Also, the correlations between the effective half life and serum creatinine, GFR, and administration dose were investigated in this study. Materials and Methods: The targets were 50 patients administration high dose of I-131 from February to August in 2013, having normal range of serum creatinine and over $30{\mu}IU/mL$ of TSH levels. After administration radioactive I-131, the early scan in the 3rd day and the delay scan in the 5-6th days were performed. To measure the residual radioactivity in the whole body and thyroid, ROI was set and then background radioactivity was corrected to estimate. The effective half life was estimated by calculating the ratio of measured values between the early and delay images. To compare the effective half lives of the whole body and thyroid, it was analyzed by Independent t-test, and each correlation of the effective half life, GFR, serum creatinine, and the dose of administration were analyzed by calculating the pearson's correlation coefficient. All of the analysis were determined to be statistically significant when P<0.05. Results: The effective half life of the whole body was $17.06{\pm}5.50$ hours and of the thyroid was $17.22{\pm}5.41$ hours. The two effective half life did not show significant difference (P=0.887). As the value of GFR was increased, the effective half life of whole body (r=-0.407, P=0.003) and of thyroid (r=-0.473, P=0.001) were significantly decreased; as the value of serum creatinine was increased, the effective half life of whole body (r=0.309, P=0.029) and of thyroid (r=0.371, P=0.008) were significantly increased. In the administration dose, effective half life did not have correlations. Conclusion: The effective half life of I-131 of patients treated for their thyroids were estimated only by using the images of Dual time I-131 whole body scan. Also, the correlations with the effective life, GFR, and serum creatinine were examined. This study might be utilized for a study on optimization for the period of hospitalization of patients treated by high dose of I-131 and on evaluation for internal absorbed dose of MIRD schema in application of the effective half life.
