  • In general, utility voltage is maintained at a relatively low level of Phase unbalance since a low level of unbalance can cause a significant power supply ripple and heating effects on the power system equipment. Voltage unbalance more commonly emerges in individual customer loads due to phase load unbalanced, especially where single phase power loads are used. Under unbalanced input voltages large lower order harmonics appears at the input and output ports of Power conversion devices. As the application of adjustable -speed drives (ASDs) and their integration with complex industrial processes increase, so does the need to understand how ASDs perform during voltage This paper describes a real load test to investigate the performance of 3-HP adjustable speed drives by an unbalanced voltage at the low-voltage system.

넓은 충전전압 범위를 갖는 50kW급 고효율 급속충전기 개발 (Development of 50kW High Efficiency Fast Charger with Wide Charging Voltage Range)

  • In this study, a fast charger for electric vehicle with wide charging voltage range is proposed. To achieve high efficiency, three-level topologies are employed for the AC-DC and DC-DC converters. Given that the output range of the DC-DC converter in fast chargers is quite wide, the circulating current of conventional three-level converter will increase under low voltage condition. The proposed hybrid switching method mitigates this issue. When a coupled inductor is used on the output side, the circulating current is further reduced, and the switches $S_2$, $S_3$, $S_6$, and $S_7$ achieve turning-off under the ZCS condition. Experimental results from a 50 kW prototype are provided to validate the proposed charger, and a rated efficiency of 95.9% is obtained.

고전압 입력용 SMPS의 고효율 전략 (High Efficiency Strategy of High Input Voltage SMPS)

  • Recently, the demonstration and research on the power transmission using high voltage DC such as HVDC(High Voltage DC), Smart Grid, DC transmission and distribution have been actively conducted. In order to control the power converter in high-voltage DC power transmission system, SMPS(Switching Modulation Power Supply) for power converter control using high-voltage DC input is essential. However, the demand for high-pressure SMPS is still low, so the development is not enough. In the low-output SMPS using the high-voltage input, it is difficult to achieve high efficiency due to the switching transient loss especially at light load. In this paper, we propose a new switching scheme for high power SMPS control for low output power. The proposed method can provide better efficiency increase effect in the light load region compared to the existing PWM method. To verify the feasibility of the proposed method, a 40 W SMPS for HVDC MMC(Modulation Multi-level Converter) was designed and verified by simulation.

Increasing the Range of Modulation Indices with the Polarities of Cells and Switching Constraint Reliefs for the Selective Harmonic Elimination Pulse Width Modulation Technique

  • In this paper an improved low frequency selective harmonic elimination-PWM (SHE-PWM) technique for Cascaded H-bridge (CHB) converters is proposed. The proposed method is able to eliminate low order harmonics from the output voltage of the converter for a wide range of modulation indices. To solve SHE-PWM equations, especially for low modulation indices, a modified method is used which employs either the positive or negative voltage polarities of H-bridge cells to increase the freedom degrees of each cell. Freedom degrees of the switching angles are also used to increase the range of available solutions for non-linear SHE equations. The proposed SHE methods can successfully eliminate up to $25^{th}$ harmonic from a 7-level output voltage by using just nine switching transitions or a 150 Hz switching frequency. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, simulation and experimental results have been presented.

  • H-브릿지 멀티레벨 인버터는 여러 개의 단상 Power Cell을 직렬로 연결함으로써 저전압 전력용 반도체를 사용하여 고전압을 얻을 수 있고, 정현파에 가까운 출력전압 파형을 얻을 수 있는 멀티레벨 인버터 토폴로지이다. 본 논문은 산업현장에서 신뢰성을 인정받아 많이 사용되고 있는 직렬통신 방식의 일종인 CAN통신 인터럽터를 이용한 H-브릿지 멀티레벨 인버터 Power Cell의 PU 동기화 및 위상전이 방법에 관한 것이다. 제안된 방법의 주요 장점은 주제어기와 셀 제어기 사이에 직렬통신(CAN)을 사용함으로써 주제어기와 셀 제어기의 신호선의 단순화, 주제어기의 부담 감소, Power Cell의 모듈화, 셀 단위의 보호동작 용이, 확장성 향상 그리고 제어 신호 및 Power Cell의 신뢰성을 향상에 있다. 13레벨로 구성된 H-브릿지 멀티레벨 인버터 시험을 통해 제안된 방법의 타당성과 신뢰성을 입증하였다.

Amplidyne의 포화현상을 고려한 직류정전압계통의 과도응답 해석 (Transient Response Analysis of DC Voltage Regulating System with Amplidyne Saturation Effect)

  • This paper deals with the transient analysis of an amplidyne dc voltage regulating system under the following conditions: (1) assuming all the components of the system to be linear, (2) considering the effect of amplidyne saturation. The mathematical technique employed is state variables method. The calculated response curves are compared with the experimental results obtained on a practical system. The main results can be summerized as follows: 1) The effect of amplidyne saturation on the transient response of a dc voltage regulating system is to reduce the overshoot and setting time. 2) With the increase in level of the step reference voltage, the system response becomes apesiodic. 3) The steady output voltage is reduced appreciably compared to the linear case.

Subsection Synchronous Current Harmonic Minimum Pulse Width Modulation for ANPC-5L Inverter

  • Medium voltage drive systems driven by high-power multi-level inverters operating at low switching frequency can reduce the switching losses of the power device and increase the output power. Employing subsection synchronous current harmonic minimum pulse width modulation (CHMPWM) technique can maintain the total harmonic distortion of current at a very low level. It can also reduce the losses of the system, improve the system control performance and increase the efficiency of DC-link voltage accordingly. This paper proposes a subsection synchronous CHMPWM approach of active neutral point clamped five-level (ANPC-5L) inverter under low switching frequency operation. The subsection synchronous scheme is obtained by theoretical calculation based on the allowed maximum switching frequency. The genetic algorithm (GA) is adopted to get the high-precision initial values. So the expected switching angles can be achieved with the help of sequential quadratic programming (SQP) algorithm. The selection principle of multiple sets of the switching angles is also presented. Finally, the validity of the theoretical analysis and the superiority of the CHMPWM are verified through both the simulation results and experimental results.

Full-Wave Rectifier with Vibration Detector for Vibrational Energy Harvesting Systems

  • In this paper, a full-wave rectifier (FWR) with a simple vibration detector suitable for use with vibrational energy harvesting systems is presented. Conventional active FWRs where active diodes are used to reduce the diode voltage drop and increase the system efficiency are usually powered from the output. Output-powered FWRs exhibit relatively high efficiencies because the comparators used in active diodes are powered from the stable output voltage. Nevertheless, a major drawback is that these FWRs consume power from the output storage capacitor even when the system is not harvesting any energy. To overcome the problem, a technique using a simple vibration detector consisting of a peak detector and a level converter is proposed. The vibration detector detects whether vibrational energy exists or not in the input terminal and disables the comparators when there is no vibrational energy. The proposed FWR with the vibration detector is designed using a $0.35-{\mu}m$ CMOS process. Simulation results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. By using the proposed vibration detector, a decrease in leakage current by approximately 67,000 times can be achieved after the vibration disappears.

PDP 유지 전원단을 위한 고효율 Single-stage PFC Flyback Converter (A High Efficiency Single-Stage PFC Flyback Converter for PDP Sustaining Power Module)

  • A low cost PDP sustain power supply is proposed based on flyback topology. By using Boundary Conduction Method(BCM) to control input current regulation, DCM condition can be met under all load conditions. Another feature of the proposed method is that a excessive voltage stress due to the link voltage increase can be suppressed by removing link capacitor and suggest new 'Level-shifting switch driver'. this new gate driver is improved 66% of efficiency than switching loss of a existed push-pull amplifier. The proposed converter is tested with a 400W(200V-2A output) prototype circuit.

  • The HVAC(Heating Ventilation and Air conditioning) system is controlled by two ways, one is ON/OFF control and the other is PWM inverter with V/F. Control of blower with the use of PWM inverter has quite some benefits such as the capability of changing speed, high efficiency and reduced noise level compared with ON/OFF control. But if blower is operated at low speed, high THD generated by decrease of ma, and output voltage lowered in proportion to frequency. To solve these problems, filter should be installed at the output stage of inverter, which can decrease THD but has problems such as increase of volume size and additional braking resistance. This paper proposes the PWAM method which can reduce THD instead of installing the filter at the output stage of inverter. The proposed PWAM method is an inverter modulation method that fixes the modulation index of inverter to reduce THD by varying DC link voltage of inverter unlike conventional PWM method. Finally, the validity of proposed PWAM methods verified by experiments.
