Steam generator of a nuclear power plant has important rolls for the heat transfer and the isolation of radioactive materials. So bursting of the steam generator tube is directly related to the accident of nuclear power plants. Incone1600 has been used for the steam generator tube material. The material shows non-magnetic and metallic properties, eddy current NDT method has been employed for defects detection. In this work, a differential type of eddy current probe was developed to improve resolution of defect detection. To verify properties of the developed differential type eddy current probe, we have made reference material with SUS304 which has similar magnetic and electrical properties of Inconel600. Using the developed differential type eddy current probe, we can detect defect size of 0.25 mm in diameter and 0.2 mm in depth (volume of $1{\times}10^{-3}\;mm^3$) with the reference material.

In end milling process the undeformed chip thickness and the cutting force components vary periodically with phase change of the tool. In this study, up end milling process is transformed to the equivalent oblique cutting. The varying undeformed chip thickness and the cutting force components in end milling process are replaced with the equivalent average ones. Then it can be possible to analyze the chip-tool friction and shear process in the shear plane of the end milling process by the equivalent oblique cutting system. According to this analysis, when cutting Inconel 718, 61, 64 and 55% of the total energy is consumed in the shear process with the helix angle 30$^{\circ}$, 40$^{\circ}$ and 50$^{\circ}$ respectively, and the balance is consumed in the friction process. With the helix angle of 40$^{\circ}$ the specific cutting energy consumed is smaller than with the helix angle 30$^{\circ}$ and 50$^{\circ}$.

The material normally used in hot dip galvanizing facilities is SM45C (carbon steel for mechanical structure, KS standard), mainly because of its price. During this process, the oxidation of the plating facility occurs due to the heat of the Zn fumes coming from the molten zinc. Since the cycle time of the current facilities is 6 months, much time and money are wasted. In this study, the corrosive properties of various materials (Inconel625, STS304, SM45C) were investigated by oxidation in a high temperature and Zn fumes environment. The possibility of applying the hot-dip galvanizing equipment was investigated for each material. The Zn fumes were generated by directly bubbling Ar gas into Zn molten metal in a 650 degree furnace. High-temperature, Zn fumes corrosion was conducted for 30 days. The sample was removed after 30 days and the oxidation of the surface was confirmed with EDS and SEM, and the corrosion properties were examined using potentiodynamic polarization tests.

Material properties of the lock plate, which covers the gas-turbine blade, are studied using ultrasonic guided waves. The lock plate is a crucial part of a gas-turbine power plant. The wave velocity and attenuation coefficient are measured to investigate the changes in the material properties under three heat-treatment conditions. Compared to the destructive mechanical tests, the material characterization of Inconel X-750 can be performed more efficiently and nondestructively by using ultrasonic guided waves; this characterization helps identify the changes occurring in its elastic moduli and Poisson's ratio under different heat-treatment conditions. The wave velocity and hardness of Inconel X-750 are proportional to each other. This nondestructive technique for the measurement of material properties can be widely used in various industries to avoid catastrophic failure. It is also expected that the guided-wave technique can be applied as a new cost- and time-saving inspection tool for longer and wider inspection ranges.

The Thermal Barrier Coating(TBC) has been used to improve the heat barrier and tribological properties of the aircraft engine and the automobile engine in high temperature. Especially, the high temperature tribological propertied of the cylinder haed and the piston crown of diesel engine was emphasized. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to evaluate the microstructure, tribological propeer in high tempearmal shock resistance and bonding strength of five layer functionally gradient TBC for the applications. The five layerwere composed with 100% ceramic insulating later, 75(ceramic):25 (metal) layer, 50:50 layer, 25:75 layer and 100% metal bonding layer to redude the thermal stress. the YSL and MSL poweders were the insulation ceramics powers. The NiCrAly, Inconel625 and SUS powders were the bonding and mixingg powders for plasma spray process. According to the result of high temperature wear test, the wera resistance of YSZ/NiCrAlY siytem was most out standing at 600 and $800^{\circ}C$. At $400^{\circ}C$, the wear resistance of YSZ/Inconel system was better than others. Wear volume at other temperature because of the low temperature degration of zirconia. The thermal shock mechanism of 5 later is the vertical crack gegration in insulating layer. this means that the initial cracks were generated in the top layer, and then developed into the composite layers during thermal shock test. Finally, these cracks werereached to the interface of coating and substrate and also, these vertioal cracks join with the horizontal cracks of the each layers. The bonding strength of YSZ/NiCrAlY and YSZ/Inconel 5 layer system is better than other 5layer systems. The theramal shock resistance of thermal barrier coating s with 5 layer system is better than that of 3 layers and 2 layers.

This study is to investigate the influence of hydrogen attack and UNSM on fatigue behaviors of the Inconel 718 alloy. The decrease of the fatigue life between the untreated and the hydrogen attacked material is 10-20%. The fatigue lives of hydrogen attacked specimen decreased without a fatigue limit, similar to those of nonferrous materials. Due to hydrogen embrittlement, about 80% of the surface cracks were smaller than the average grain size of $13{\mu}m$. Many small surface cracks caused by the embrittling effect of hydrogen attack were initiated at the grain boundaries and surface scratches. Cracks were irregularly distributed, grew, and then coalesced through tearing, leading to a reduction of fatigue life. Results revealed that the fatigue lives of UNSM-treated specimens were longer than those of the untreated specimens.

The corrosion behavior of the Inconel X-750 alloy was investigated for its potential application under a Cl2-O2 mixed gas flow in an Ar atmosphere. The corrosion rate was found to be negligible at temperatures up to 400℃ under a flow rate of 30 mL·min-1 Cl2 + 170 mL·min-1 Ar, whereas an exponential increase was observed in the corrosion rate at temperatures greater than 500℃. The suppression of the corrosion reaction due to the presence of O2 was verified experimentally at flow rates of 30 mL·min-1 Cl2 (4.96 g·m-2·h-1), 20 mL·min-1 Cl2 + 10 mL·min-1 O2 (2.02 g·m-2 ·h-1), and 10 mL·min-1 Cl2 + 20 mL·min-1 O2 (1.34 g·m-2·h-1) under a constant Ar flow rate of 170 mL·min-1 at 600℃ for 8 h. The surface morphology analysis results revealed that porous surfaces with tunnel-type holes were produced under the Cl2-O2 mixed-gas condition. Furthermore, the effects of the Cl2 flow rate on the corrosion rate were investigated, indicating that its impact was negligible within the range of 5-30 mL·min-1 Cl2 at 600℃.

The effects of parameters related to the finite element simulation of the laser shock peening(LSP) process on the residual stresses of Inconel alloy 600 steel are discussed. In particular, we focus on the maximum pressure, pressure pulse duration, laser spot size, and number of shots. It is found that certain ranges of the maximum pressure and pulse duration can produce the maximum compressive residual stresses near the surface, and thus proper choices of these parameters are important. The residual stresses are not affected by the laser spot size, provided it is larger than a certain size. The magnitudes of the compressive residual stresses and the plastically affected depths are found to increase with an increasing number of shots, but this effect is less pronounced for more shots.
Characterization of microstructures and cryogenic mechanical properties of electro beam (EB) welds between cast and forged Inconel 718 superalloys has been investigated. Optimal EBW condition was found in the beam current range of 36~39 mA with the constant travel speed of 12 mm/s and arc voltage of 120 kV for 10 mm-thick specimens. Electron beam current lower than 25 mA caused to occur the liquation microfissuring in cast-side heat affected zone (HAZ) of EB welds. The HAZ liquation microfissure was found on the liquated grain boundaries with resolidified ${\gamma}/Laves$ and ${\gamma}/NbC$ eutectic constituents. EBW produced welds showing a fine dendritic structure with relatively discrete Laves phase due to fast cooling rate. After post weld aging treatment, blocky Laves phase and formation of ${\gamma}^{\prime}+{\gamma}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ strengtheners were observed. Presence of primary strengthener and coarse Laves particles in PWHT weld may cause to reduce micro-plastic zone ahead of a crack, leading to a significant decrease in Charpy impact toughness at $-196^{\circ}C$. Fracture initiation and propagation induced by Charpy impact testing were discussed in terms of the dislocation structures ahead of crack arisen from the fractured Laves phase.
