QoS is a subject of high interest for successful deployment of various services in a home gateway and the gateway is possible to support QoS by installing existing queuing disciplines, which control the outgoing traffic to guarantee only QoS of the traffic. But m the home gateway it is also important to guarantee QoS of the incoming traffic. This paper proposes an adaptive control of the traffic to guarantee QoS of incoming traffic into the home gateway. In the proposed method, the upper limit of the available bandwidth of sending rate varies with receiving rate. And the proposed method makes the gap between the allocated rate and the actual service rate of the traffic narrow. Some experiments on a test bed show that the proposed method is valid.

Frame relay needs UPC function for the multiplexed logical connections to prevent malicious user traffic from incoming to network, to guarantee the QoS of conformed user traffic, and to protect the normal operation of network system. On the FR/ATM interworking in ATM networks, the UPC may be conducted either by cell-based ATM UPC or frame-based FR UPC. Frames come into and traverse ATm networks by segmentation to ATM cells. Of course, FR QoS should be guaranteed in spite of segmentation and reassembly in ATM networks. In this paper, we compared the QoS of cell-based ATM UPC and frame-based FR UPC in terms of analysis and simulation in case of ingress of excess traffic over negotiated traffic parameters at user-to-network interface. Also we studied frame-based UPC schemes including window-based FR UPC and frame-based VSA which is an ATM UPC algorithm recommended by ITU-T. We described introductions to frame relay including frame structure and FR/ATM interworking, FR traffic parameters and their relationship, comparison of FR QoS between frame-based FR UPC and cell-based ATM UPC, comparison of FR UPC schemes, necessities of egress traffic control, and conclusions.
To support Internet traffic efficiently over ATM \networks, Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) has been proposed in tile ATM Forum to ensure minimum rate guarantees to VCs. In this paper, we proposed fuzzy logic based buffer management algorithm that provides MCR guarantee and fair sharing to GFR VCs. A key feature of proposed algorithm is its ability to accept or drop a new incoming packet dynamically based on buffer condition and load rate of VCs. This is achieved by using fuzzy logic controller for the production of a drop factor. Simulation result shows that proposed scheme significantly has improved fairness and TCP throughput compared with previous schemes.

To support Internet traffic efficiently over ATM networks, Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) has been proposed in the ATM Forum. GFR provides minimum rate guarantees to VCs and allows any excess bandwidth in the network to be shared among the contending VCs in a fair manner. In this paper, we proposed a new fuzzy logic based buffer management algorithm that provides MCR guarantee and fair sharing to GFR VCs. A key feature of proposed algorithm is its ability to accept or drop a new incoming packet dynamically based on buffer condition and load ratio of VCs. This is achieved by using fuzzy logic controller for the production of a drop factor. Simulation results show that proposed scheme significantly improves fairness and TCP throughput compared with previous schemes.
In this paper, we propose a new scheduling method that can guarantee reliable jitter by minimizing the queue length variation in the streaming service provisioning such as IPTV and VoD. The amount of traffic to be delivered within a certain time is very fluid because MPEG-4 and H.264 encoders use VBR(Variable Bit Rate) for delivering video streaming traffic. This VBR characteristic increases the end-to-end propagation delay variation when existing scheduling methods are used for delivering video frames. Therefore, we propose the new scheduling method that can minimize change rate of queue length by adaptively controling service rate taking into account the size of bulk incoming packets and arrival rate for bulk streaming traffic. Video frames can be more reliably transmitted through the minimization of the queue length variation using the proposed method. We use the queueing model and also carry out OPNET simulation to validate the proposed method.

The IDS/IPS(Intrusion Detection/Prevention System) has been widely deployed to protect the internal network against internet attacks. Reducing the packet inspection time is one of the most important challenges of improving the performance of the IDS/IPS. Since the IDS/IPS needs to match multiple patterns for the incoming traffic, we may have to apply the multiple pattern matching schemes, some of which use finite automata, while the others use the shift table. In this paper, we first show that the performance of those schemes would degrade with various kinds of pattern sets and payload, and then propose a hybrid multiple pattern matching scheme which combines those two schemes. The proposed scheme is organized to guarantee an appropriate level of performance in any cases. The experimental results using real traffic show that the time required to do multiple pattern matching could be reduced effectively.

In this paper, we propose an Aggregate Three Color Marker without per flow management which is required for an Edge router to improve End-to-End QoS of Assured Service in DiffServ. Proposed Aggregate Three Color Marker is used with the Adaptive RIO-DC scheme to achieve the minimum rate guarantee without per flow management. Assuming that the admission control for Assured Service has been performed, proposed Aggregate Three Color Marker measures incoming In-profile traffic rate at the output link of an edge router using a token-bucket with a token rate equal to the sum of contracted rates of admitted flows passing the edge router. If there are token losses from the token bucket, out-of-profile packets are promoted to Yellow packets within the aggregate traffic profile. And yellow packets are demoted to out-of-profile packets at the input link to an Edge router fer the purpose of fairness maintenance. In-profile packets and Yellow packets are processed identically at the RIO-DC buffer management scheme in our proposed method. Simulation results show that through using proposed Aggregate Three Color Marker with the Adaptive RIO-DC scheme, the minimum rate guarantee for Assured Service can be achieved without per flow management at multiple DiffServ domains.
This paper discusses a testbed architecture for implementing scalable service differentiation in the Internet. The differentiated services (DiffServ) testbed architecture is based on a model in which a bandwidth broker (BB) can control network resources, and the ALTQ can reserve resources in a router to guarantee a Quality of Service (QoS) for incoming traffic to the testbed. The reservation and releasemessage for the ALTQ is contingent upon a decision message in the BE. The BB has all the information in advance, which is required for a decision message, in the form of PIB. A signaling protocol between the BB and the routers is the COPS protocol proposed at the IETF. In terms of service differentiation, a user should make an SLA in advance, and reserve required bandwidth through an RAR procedure. The SLA and RAR message between a user and the BB has implemented with the COPS extension which was used between a router and the BB. We evaluates the service differentiation for the video streaming in that the EF class traffic shows superb performance than the BE class traffic where is a network congestion. We also present the differentiated service showing a better packet receiving rate, low packet loss, and low delay for the EF class video service.
