  • Counter-rotating axial flow fan(CRF) consists of two counter-rotating rotors without stator blades. CRF shows the complex flow characteristics of the three-dimensional, viscous, and unsteady flow fields. For the understanding of the entire core flow in CRF, it is necessary to investigate the three-dimensional unsteady flow field between the rotors. This information is also essential to improve the aerodynamic characteristics and to reduce the aerodynamic noise level and vibration characteristics of the CRF. In this paper, experimental study on the three-dimensional unsteady flow of the CRF is performed at the design point(operating point). Flow fields in the CRF are measured at the cross-sectional planes of the upstream and downstream of each rotor using the $45^{\circ}$ inclined hot-wire. The phase-locked averaged hot-wire technique utilizes the inclined hot-wire, which rotates successively with 120 degree increments about its own axis. Three-dimensional unsteady flow characteristics such as tip vortex, secondary flow and tip leakage flow in the CRF are shown in the form of the axial, radial and tangential velocity vector plot and velocity contour. The phase-locked averaged velocity profiles of the CRF are analyzed by means of the stationary unsteady measurement technique. At the mean radius of the front rotor inlet and the outlet, the phase-locked averaged velocity profiles show more the periodical flow characteristics than those of the hub region. At the tip region of the CRF, the axial velocity is decreased due to the boundary layer effect of the fan casing and the tip vortex flow. The radial and the tangential velocity profiles show the most unstable and unsteady flow characteristics compared with other position of rotors. But, the phase-locked averaged velocity profiles of the downstream of the rear rotor show the aperiodic flow pattern due to the mixture of the front rotor wake period and the rear rotor rotational period.

  • With the object of developing a non-gap choke core, effects of annealing in oxygen atmosphere on magnetic properties for Fe$_{78}$Si$_{9}$B$_{13}$ amorphous alloy were investigated. After annealing for 2 hrs at 440 $^{\circ}C$, optimum magnetic properties for choke core were obtained, where the effective permeability was 180 and was almost constant up to several MHz, and the decrease in permeability upon large DC bias current of 12 A or DC bias magnetic field of 8,000 A/m was very little. Moreover the AC magnetic loss was very low as compared to the conventional choke cores. Upon the optimum annealing, the magnetic hysteresis loop was inclined accompanying the increase of coercive force and the appearance of fine crystallites of $\alpha$-Fe phase. The good choke core properties was considered to be due to the suppression of domain boundary motion and domain refinement by the crystallites.

  • This thesis, intended to establish the design criteria of core wall of a Fill Dam, has determined after a series of twenty one analytic experiments on the seepage flows in various types of core wall that the rates of rise and fall of the seepage flow changing in accordance with the variation of core wall cross section, which is to say, the transformation of slope inclination. Particularily the appropropriate design inclination was examined for the sloped core wall. Putting the resulting values into the existing approximate theoretical function has revealed the volume of theoretical seepage flows. With this result, the experiment values was compared and interestingly enough, a theoretical formula was found which is considered to be the nearest one to the resulting values of the experiment. It is also discussed in the papers that the seepage alignment and flows in the sloped core wall section that inclined to the upstream and the adoptability of the theoretical function which has been known up to present. Based on the above mentioned study it is anticipated that thesis should be available for determination of the cross section in the core wall design of a Fill Dam as large amount of references as it can be.

  • Recently, many enterprises have attempted to capitalize knowledge assets on data warehouse (DW). It has been recognized as strategic core process to create corporate competitive advantage and implement enterprise e-biz strategies. However, most approaches to represent knowledge and decision process have limits in considering various knowledge types, their relationships and continuity in knowledge formulation. In addition, they are so inclined to one side such as concept-oriented frameworks or technology-oriented ones. They lack universal and wide-ranging features. This paper presents a comprehensive methodology to accumulate knowledge capital on DW via a properly grained hypermedia model. The methodology consists of three phases: knowledge requirement elicitation, hypermedia modeling, and system implementation. A real-life case for medical DW development is presented to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed methodology. This methodology is effective when an organization accumulates knowledge assets to put the corporate e-biz or cre-biz strategy into practice.

  • Previous counter-current flow limitation (CCFL) and critical heat flux (CHF) studies included investigations on the inlet entrance, inclined channel and gap effects for the most part. In this study, the local CHF correlation was presented to be used in the numerical analysis for the 3 dimensional hemispherical geometry. Also, first-principle analyses were performed to determine the maximum heat removal capability from the debris through the gap that may be formed during a core melt accident. The maximum heat removal capability by gap cooling can be applied in quantitatively assessing the severe accident management measures.

  • In this study, the large scale test was performed to investigate the behavior of failure for the embankment and spillway transitional zone by overtopping. The pore water pressure, earth pressure, settlement and failure pattern of covering embankment with geotextile were compared and analyzed. The pore water pressure showed a small change in the spillway transition zone and core, indicating that the geotextile efficiently reinforced the embankment. The earth pressure decreased the infiltration of the pore water only in inclined cores type to secure local stability. The behavior of failure started from the bottom and gradually progressed upwards. After the intermediate overtopping period (100 min), width and depth of the seepage erosion were very small due to the effect of geotextile which delayed failure. Therefore, the reinforced method by geotxtile was a very effective method to respond to the emergency due to overtopping.

  • In this study, the large scale test was performed to investigate the behavior of failure on the embankment and spillway transitional zone by overtopping. The pore water pressure, earth pressure, settlement and failure behaviors according to several reinforcing method were compared and analyzed. The pore water pressure showed a small change in the spillway transition zone and core, indicating that the riprap and geotextile efficiently reinforced the embankment, but non-reinforcement showed a largely change in pore water pressure. The earth pressure by riprap and geotextile at upstream slope and bottom core increased rapidly with the infiltration of the pore water by overtopping. And the earth pressure at crest showed a smally change due to effect of the inclined core. A settlement by riprap showed a small change and the geotextile decreased a rapidly due to failure of crest. The width of failure by riprap at intermediate stage (50 min) showed a largely due to sliding of crest. But, the width and depth of the seepage erosion after the intermediate overtopping period (100 min) were very small due to the effect of riprap than geotextile and non-reinforcement which delayed failure. It has the effect that protect reservoir embankment from erosion in the central part. The pore water pressure at the spillway transition zone due to overtopping increased a rapidly in the case of non-reinforcement, but the reinforced methods by geotextile and riprap showed a smally change. Therefore, the reinforced method by riprap and geotextile was a very effective method to protect permanently and the emergency an embankment due to overtopping, respectively.

  • This study aims to investigate the structural performance of hollow-core slab (HCS) memebers with 400 mm thickness. To this end, a total of four HCS specimens were fabricated based on the individual mold method to provide shear reinforcement, unlike the extrusion method. The key variables were chosen as the presence of topping concrete, core-filling concrete, and shear reinforcements. The crack patterns and load-displacement responses of the test specimens were analyzed in detail. Test results showed that inclined shear cracking occurred all the specimens, and that the specimen with shear reinforcement on the web of HCS unit had higher strength and ductility than the specimen without shear reinforcement. In particular, shear reinforcements placed on the web of HCS unit effectively resisted not only to vertical shear force but also to horizontal shear force between the interface of HCS unit and topping concrete. In addition, it was discovered that the method in which shear reinforcements are placed on the web of HCS unit is more effective in improving structural performance than core-filling method.
