Speed Limitations of the Rubber-Tired AGT Light Rail Vehicle for Inclement Weather (악천후에 대한 고무차륜 AGT 경량전철의 안전 운행속도)

  • Dynamic model of the rubber-tired AGT light rail vehicle. various load and boundary conditions between vehicle and infrastructures(running track. guidance rail) were defined to analyze vehicular dynamic behaviors occurred by inclement weather(strong wind and earthquake). The dynamic analysis were performed by using a commercialized software RecurDyn. whose results for the magnitudes of wind and earthquake showed the resultant forces and accelerations between car body and bogie, or bogie guidance frame and infrastructures in the various track conditions(straight or curved tracks) and train velocities. Based on these results, speed limitation of tile vehicle were proposed to ensure system stability and passengers safety.

  • When disasters happen specially in islands, we have a lot of problems of 'managing many workers and heavy equipments because of bad weather', 'being hard to offer, transport and install container-houses as temporary housing', 'being hard to store and use again after disassembling', too. More serious problems come from bad conditions that more and more people leave the islands and only old people live there, moreover, islands get easy to be isolated by inclement weather. So the purpose of this research is to develop and design emergency housing for sufferers which is light, efficient to be stored, easy to transport and build in disasters by resolving such problems, after rethinking the concept of temporary housing. Also, this research intends to suggest the concept of 'emergency housing'. The process of this research includes selection of architectural materials, experiments, constructional simulation, design and building test.

  • There has been a strong demand for providing diverse services to drivers utilizing existing ITS infrastructure. To this end, this study is aiming at improving the accuracy of a variable speed limit system by determining recommended speeds for the system utilizing the information from Urban Traffic Information System(UTIS) and Weather Information System(WIS). In order to determine appropriate speed limits under inclement weather conditions for the variable speed limit system, this study examined three methods: i) the method utilizing the information from WIS, ii) the method utilizing the information from UTIS, and iii) the method which combines the information from WIS and UTIS using different weights for diverse weather conditions. Finally, this study selected the third method which determines an appropriate speed limit using the relationship between the vehicle operating speed and the minimum stopping distance which is estimated using the existing speed limit, surface coefficient of friction and superelevation.

  • Because of environmental crisis, researchers are seeking and developing a new, clean, safe and renewable energy. Solar cell energy and fuel cell energy have inestimable development potential. The paper introduces hybrid photovoltaic-fuel cell generation systems supplying a remote power load and hybrid system of solar cell and fuel cell considering the advantages of stable and sustainable energy from the economic point of view. Fuel cell power system has been proven a viable technology to back up severe PV power fluctuations under inclement weather conditions. Fuel cell power generation, containing small land us, is able to alleviate the heavy burden for large surface requirement of PV power plants. In addition, the PV-fuel cell hybrid power system shows a very little potential for lifetime $CO_2$ emissions. In this paper shows the I-V characteristics of the solar module which are dependent on the power of the halogen lamp and the I-V characteristics of fuel cells which are connected in parallel. Also, it shows efficiency of the hybrid system.

An Implementation of Traffic Accident Detection System at Intersection based on Image and Sound (영상과 음향 기반의 교차로내 교통사고 검지시스템의 구현)

  • The frequency of car accidents is very high at the intersection. Because of the state of a traffic signal, quarrels happen after accidents. At night many cars run away after causing an accident. In this case, accident analyses have been conducted by investigating evidences such as eyewitness accounts, tire tracks, fragments of the car or collision traces of the car. But these evidences that don't have enough objectivity cause an error in judgment. In the paper, when traffic accidents happen, the traffic accident detection system that stands on the basis of images and sounds detects traffic accidents to acquire abundant evidences. And, this system transmits 10 seconds images to the traffic center through the wired net and stores images to the Smart Media Card. This can be applied to various ways such as accident management, accident DB construction, urgent rescue after awaring the accident, accident detection in tunnel and in inclement weather.

Multivariate Congestion Prediction using Stacked LSTM Autoencoder based Bidirectional LSTM Model

  • In intelligent transportation systems, traffic management is an important task. The accurate forecasting of traffic characteristics like flow, congestion, and density is still active research because of the non-linear nature and uncertainty of the spatiotemporal data. Inclement weather, such as rain and snow, and other special events such as holidays, accidents, and road closures have a significant impact on driving and the average speed of vehicles on the road, which lowers traffic capacity and causes congestion in a widespread manner. This work designs a model for multivariate short-term traffic congestion prediction using SLSTM_AE-BiLSTM. The proposed design consists of a Bidirectional Long Short Term Memory(BiLSTM) network to predict traffic flow value and a Convolutional Neural network (CNN) model for detecting the congestion status. This model uses spatial static temporal dynamic data. The stacked Long Short Term Memory Autoencoder (SLSTM AE) is used to encode the weather features into a reduced and more informative feature space. BiLSTM model is used to capture the features from the past and present traffic data simultaneously and also to identify the long-term dependencies. It uses the traffic data and encoded weather data to perform the traffic flow prediction. The CNN model is used to predict the recurring congestion status based on the predicted traffic flow value at a particular urban traffic network. In this work, a publicly available Caltrans PEMS dataset with traffic parameters is used. The proposed model generates the congestion prediction with an accuracy rate of 92.74% which is slightly better when compared with other deep learning models for congestion prediction.

Environmental Evaluation for a Photovoltaic-Fuel Cell Hybrid Power System (태양전지-연료전지 복합 전력시스템에 대한 환경평가에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents an overview of environmental evaluation for a photovoltaic-fuel cell hybrid power plant through the Ideal Point approach, which is one of multiobjective decision support systems. Its evaluation is carried out in terms of such tow criteria as land requirement for plant construction and lifetime CO2 emissions, and ten compared with conventional fossil fuel power plants. Fuel cell power system has been proven a viable technology to back up severe PV power fluctuations under inclement weather conditions. Fuel cell power generation, containing small land use, is able to alleviate the heavy burden of large surface requirement of PV power plants.   • An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is a powered pilotless aircraft, which is controlled remotely or autonomously. UAVs are an attractive alternative for many scientific and military organizations. UAVs can perform operations that are considered to be risky or uninhabitable for human. UA V s are currently employed in many military missions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, enemy radar jamming, decoying, suppression of enemy air defense (SEAD), fixed and moving target attack, and air-to-air combat. UAVs also are employed in a number of civilian applications such as monitoring ozone depletion, inclement weather, traffic congestion, and taking images of dangerous territory. For accomplishing the UAV's missions, guarantee of survivability should be preceded. The main objective of this study is to suggest a mathematical programming model and a $A^*PS$-PGA (A-star with Post Smoothing-Parallel Genetic Algorithm) for an UAV's path planning to maximize survivability. A mathematical programming model is composed by using MRPP (Most Reliable Path Problem) and TSP (Traveling Salesman Problem). A path planning algorithm for UAV is applied by transforming MRPP into SPP (Shortest Path Problem).

  • As the suitability of berth allocation will ultimately have a significant influence on the performance of a berth, a great deal of attention should be given to berth allocation. Generally, a berth allocation problem has conflicting factors between servers and users. In addition, there is uncertainty in great extent caused by various factors such as departure delay, inclement weather on route, poor handling equipment, a lack of storage space, and other factors contribute to the uncertainty of arrival and berthing time. Thus, it is necessary to establish berth allocation planning which reflects the positions of interested parties and the ambiguity of parameters. For this, a berth allocation problem is formulated by fuzzy 0-1 integer programming introducing the concept of maximum Position Shift(MPS). But, the above approach has limitations in terms of computational time and computer memory when the size of problem is increased. It also has limitations with respect to the integration of other sub-systems such as ship planning system and yard planning system. For solving such problem, this paper focuses particularly on developing an efficient heuristic algorithm as a new technique of getting an effective solution. And also the suggested algorithm is verified through the illustrative examples and empirical appalicaton to BCTOC.

Postural Risk Assessment of Weed and Kudzu Removal Operations (숲가꾸기를 위한 풀베기와 칡덩굴제거작업의 근골격계 부담 분석)

  • A forest operation is considered as one of the riskiest environments for the development of musculoskeletal disorders because operators are exposed to harmful environmental conditions such as rough terrain, inclement weather, and poor working postures. In weed and kudzu removal operations, manual application is still common in Korea. In this study, we evaluated the ergonomic conditions of weed and kudzu removal in regeneration forests and the associated risk of musculoskeletal disorders. The risk of musculoskeletal disorders was evaluated using the Ovako Working Posture Analysis System and postural risk index. Postural risk was significantly higher for kudzu compared with weed removal operations. This suggests that kudzu removal operations must be improved to decrease postural risk.
