We present the optical models and calculation results of thin-film organic solar cells (OSCs) at oblique incidence of light, using the transfer matrix method. The simple expression for the optical power dissipation is derived at oblique incidence for s- and p-polarized light. The spatial distribution of the electric field intensity, the optical power density, and the optical power dissipation are calculated in both s- and p-polarized light with respect to the incidence angle. We identify how the light absorption efficiency for p-polarized light becomes relatively larger than that for s-polarized light as the incidence angle increases.
The surface treatment of cover glass for conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cell is important to reduce reflectivity and to increase the incident light. In this work, random textured anti glare (RTAG) glass was prepared by wet surface coating method. Optical properties due to the changes of surface morphology of RTAG glass were compared and conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cell was researched. Grain size and changes of surface morphologies formed with surface etching time greatly affected optical transmittance and transmission haze. Current density (Jsc) were high at the condition when surface morphologies reflection haze were low and transmission haze were high. Jsc was $40.0mA/cm^2$ at glancing angle of $90^{\circ}$. Incidence light source was strongly influenced by surface treatment of cover glass at high incidence angle but was hardly affected light source at the low angle of incidence.

We have reported a high prevalence of breast cancer in light-polluted areas in Korea. However, it is necessary to analyze the spatial effects of light polluted areas on breast cancer because light pollution levels are correlated with region proximity to central urbanized areas in studied cities. In this study, we applied a spatial regression method (an intrinsic conditional autoregressive [iCAR] model) to analyze the relationship between the incidence of breast cancer and artificial light at night (ALAN) levels in 25 regions including central city, urbanized, and rural areas. By Poisson regression analysis, there was a significant correlation between ALAN, alcohol consumption rates, and the incidence of breast cancer. We also found significant spatial effects between ALAN and the incidence of breast cancer, with an increase in the deviance information criterion (DIC) from 374.3 to 348.6 and an increase in $R^2$ from 0.574 to 0.667. Therefore, spatial analysis (an iCAR model) is more appropriate for assessing ALAN effects on breast cancer. To our knowledge, this study is the first to show spatial effects of light pollution on breast cancer, despite the limitations of an ecological study. We suggest that a decrease in ALAN could reduce breast cancer more than expected because of spatial effects.
This study investigated the effect of different light intensities on first feeding of chub mackerel Scomber japonicus larvae. Fertilized eggs, obtained from LHRHa-induced spawning of captive broodstock, were stocked (60 larvae/l) into twelve 30-1 aquaria under light intensities of 0, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 lx, with three replicate aquaria per treatment. Temperature was maintained at $20^{\circ}C$ and salinity was 35 psu. Larvae were fed the rotifer Brachionus rotundiformis at a density of five rotifers/ml. Feeding incidence was measured as the percentage of larvae with prey in the digestive tract. Feeding intensity was evaluated as the number of prey in the digestive tract of the larvae. Larvae fed in darkness (0 lx) had significantly lower (P < 0.05) feeding incidence ($13{\pm}0.05%$ larvae with prey) and feeding intensity ($1.00{\pm}0.05$ rotifers per larva) than those larvae fed at 100 ($30{\pm}0.07%$, $1.17{\pm}0.09$ rotifers per larva), 200 ($43{\pm}0.08%$, $1.24{\pm}0.11$ rotifers larvae$^{-1}$), 500 ($53{\pm}0.08%$, $1.48{\pm}0.14$ rotifers per larva) and 1000 lx ($60{\pm}0.08%$, $1.38{\pm}0.13$ rotifers per larva). The feeding incidence of S. japonicus larvae increased with light intensity while feeding intensity showed no significant difference (P > 0.05) between light treatments.

Ginseng is a shade-plant cultivated using shading facilities. However, at too low light levels, root growth is poor, and at high light levels, the destruction of chlorophyll reduces the photosynthesis efficiency due to leaf burn and early fall leaves. The ginseng has a lightsaturation point of 12,000~15,000 lux when grown at 15 to 20℃ and 9,500 lux at 25℃. This study was conducted to select the optimal light intensity of 3-year-old ginseng grown in blue-white film plastic house. The seeds were planted in the blue-white film plastic house with different light receiving rate (March 17, 2020). Between April and September, the average air temperature in the house was 20.4-20.7℃. Average soil temperature was 18.3℃-18.5℃. The chemical properties of the test soil was as follows. The pH level was 7.0-7.4, EC was 0.5-0.6 dS/m, OM was at the levels of 33.6-37.7 g/kg, P2O5 was 513.0-590.8 mg/kg, slightly higher than the allowable 400 mg/kg. The amount of light intensity, illuminance, and solar radiation in the blue-white film house was increased as the light-receiving rate increased and the amount of light intensity was found to be 9-14% compared to the open field, 8-13% illuminance and 9-14% solar irradiation respectively. The photosynthesis rate was the lowest at 3.1 µmolCO2/m2/s in the 9% light blue-white plastic house and 4.2 and 4.0 µmolCO2/m2/s in the 12% and 14% light blue-white plastic house, respectively. These results generally indicate that the photosynthesis of plants increases with the amount of light, but the ginseng has a lower light saturation point at high temperatures, and the higher the amount of light, the lower the photosynthetic efficiency. The SPAD (chlorophyll content) value decreased as the increase of light-receiving rate, and was the highest at 32.7 in 9% light blue-white plastic house. Ginseng germination started on April 11 and took 13-15 days to germinate. The overall germination rate was 82.9-85.8%. The plant height and length of stem were long in the 9% light-receiving plastic house. The diameter of stem was thick in the 12-14% light-receiving plastic house. In the 12% and 14% light-receiving plastic house, the length and diameter of taproot was long and thick, so the fresh weight of root per plant was 20 g or more, which was heavier than 16.9 g of the 9% light-receiving plastic house. The disease incidence (Alternaria blight, Gray mold and Damping-off etc.) rate were 0.9-2.7%. The incidence of Sclerotinia rot disease was 7.5-8.4%, and root rot was 0-20.0%. The incidence ratio of rusty root ginseng was 34.4-38.7% level, which was an increase from the previous year's 15% level.

In this paper, we have investigated the generation of pretilt angle for nematic liquid crystal (NLC) in a cell with oblique non-polarized ultraviolet(UV) light irradiation polyimide (PI) surface. It was found that the monodomain alignment of the NLC is obtained with an angle of incidence of 70∼85。 on PI surface. It is considered that the monodomain alignment of NLC is attributed to anisotropic of NLC is about 3。 with and angle of incidence of 70∼75。. Finally, we observed that the voltage-transmittance, response time, and voltage-holding-ratio(VHR) characteristics of photo-aligned twisted nematic(TN)-LCD with and angle of incidence of 85。 on PI surface were almost same compared to rubbing -treated TN-LCD.
A near-normal-incidence ellipsometer (NNIE) is suggested as an optical critical dimension (OCD) measurement system that is highly sensitive to the bottom defect of a sample with high-aspect-ratio structured patterns. Incident light passes through a polarizer and a phase retarder in sequence, and the reflected light from the sample also passes through them, but in reverse order. The operating principle of this NNIE, where a single polarizer and a single phase retarder are shared by the incident and reflected light, is studied, and a method to determine the ellipsometric constants from the measured intensities at proper combinations of the azimuthal angles of polarizer and retarder is presented.

Visible light communication system transmits data by controlling light emission of LED and receives data through photo detecter, which is considered as one of strong candidates of next generation wireless communication systems. The transmission capacity of visible light communication system depends on light intensity emitted from LED, sensitivity of PD, distance between transmitter and receiver, angle of incidence at the receiver. In particular, the receiver's vertical and horizontal movement changes distance between transmitter and receiver and angle of incidence, which may degrades transmission capacity of system. In this paper, we propose an estimation algorithm of receiver's position and angle based on tracking of received light intensity for indoor visible light communication systems. The performance evaluation of proposed algorithm confirms that the estimation algorithm of receiver's position and angle is quite important for visible light communication system to improve its transmission capacity.

This experiment was carried out using artificial bed soil and LED in the plastic film house(irradiation time: 07:00-17:00/day). Seedlings(n=63 per 3.3 m2) of ginseng was planted on May 17, 2018. LED was combined with red and blue light in a 3:1 ratio and irradiated with different light intensity(40-160 µmol/m2/s). Average air temperature from April to September according to the light intensity test was 20.4℃-20.9℃. Average artificial bed soil temperature was 20.1℃-21.7℃. The test area where fluorescent lamp was irradiated tended to be somewhat lower than the LED irradiation area. The chemical properties of the test soil was as follows. pH levels was 6.6-6.7, EC levels 0.9-1.3 dS/m and OM levels 30.6-32.0%. The available P2O5 contents was 73.3-302.3 mg/kg. Exchangeable cations K and Ca contents were higher than the allowable ranges and mg content was high in the fluorescent lamp treatment. The photometric characteristics of LED light intensity are as follows. The greater the light intensity, the higher the PPFD(Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) value, illuminance and solar irradiation. Fluorescent lamp treatment had high illuminance value, but PPFD and solar irradiation were lower than LED intensity 40 µmol/m2/s treatment. The photosynthetic rate increased(2.0-3.8 µmolCO2/m2/s) as the amount of light intensity increased, peaking at 120 µmol/m2/s, and then decreasing. The SPAD (chlorophyll content) value decreased as the amount of light intensity increased, and was the highest at 36.1 in fluorescent lamp treatment. Ginseng germination started on April 5 and took 14-17 days to germinate. The overall germination rate was 68.8-73.6%. The growth of aerial parts(plant height etc.) were generally excellent in the treatment of light intensity of 120-160 µmol/m2/s. The plant height was 41.9 cm, stem length was 24.1 cm, leaf length was 9.8 cm and stem diameter was 5.6 mm. The growth of underground part (root length etc.) was the best in the treatment with 120 µmol/m2/s of light intensity. Due to the root length was long(24.8 cm) and diameter of taproot was thick(18.7 mm), the fresh root weight was the heaviest at 24.8 g. There were no disease incidence such as Alternaria blight, Gray mold and Anthracnose. Disease of Damping-off caused by Rhizoctonia solani occurred 0.6-1.5% and incidence ratio of rusty root ginseng was 30.8-62.3%. It is believed that the reason for the high incidence of rusty root ginseng is that the amount of field moisture capacity of artificial bed soil is larger than the soil. Leaf discoloration rate was 13.7-32.3%.
The conversion efficiency of solar cells depending on incident angle of light is important for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) applications. The quantum efficiency is the ratio of the number of charge carriers collected by the solar cell to the number of photons of a given energy shining on the solar cell. The analysis of angle dependence of quantum efficiencies give more information upon the variation of power output of a solar cell by the incident angle of light. The variations in power output of solar cells with increasing angle of incidence is different for the type of cell structures. In this study we present the results of the quantum efficiency measurement of single-crystalline silicon solar cells and a-Si:H thin-film solar cells with the angle of incidence of light. As a result, as the angle of incidence increases in single-crystalline silicon solar cells, quantum efficiency at all wavelength (300~1,100 nm) of light were reduced. But in case of a-Si:H thin-film solar cells, quantum efficiency was increased or maintained at the angle of incidence from 0 degree to about 40 degrees and dramatically decrease at more than 40 degrees in the range of visible light. This results of quantum efficiency with increasing incident angle were caused by haze and interference effects in thin-film structure. Thus, the structural optimization considering incident angle dependence of solar cells is expected to benefit BIPV.
