A Control Method for Power-Assist Devices using a BLDC Motor for Manual Wheelchairs

  • This paper proposes a new operation and control strategy for Power-Assisted Wheelchairs (PAW) using one brushless DC (BLDC) motor. The conventional electrical wheelchairs are too heavy and large for one person to move because they have two electric motor wheels. On the other hand, the proposed PAW system has a small volume and is easy to move due to the presence of a single wheel motor. Unlike the conventional electric wheelchairs, this structure for a PAW does not have a control joystick to reduce its weight and volume. To control the wheelchair without a joystick, a special control system and algorithm are needed for proper operation of the wheelchair. In the proposed PAW system uses only one sensor to detect the acceleration and direction of PAW's movement. By using this sensor, speed control can be achieved. With a speed control system, there are three kinds of operations that can be done on the speed of a PAW: the increment of PAW speed by summing external force, the decrement of PAW speed by subtracting external force, and emergency breaking by evaluating the time duration of external force. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified through experimental results.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel surveillance throwing robot which is compact, light-weight and has an efficient shock absorption mechanism. The throwing robot is designed in a spherical shape to be easily grabbed by a hand for throwing. Also, a motor-wheel linking mechanism is designed to be robustly protected from shocks upon landing. The proposed robot has a weight of 2.2kg and the diameter of its wheels is 150 mm. Through the field experiments, the designed robot is validated to withstand higher than 13Ns of impulse.

  • This paper describes a vehicle driving-load estimation method for application to vehicle Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC). Vehicle driving-load consists of aerodynamic force, rolling resistance, and gravitational force due to road slope and is unknown disturbance in a vehicle dynamic model. The vehicle driving-load has been estimated from engine and wheel speed measurements using a vehicle dynamic model a least square method. The estimated driving-load has been used in the adaptation of throttle/brake control law. The performance of the control law has been investigated via both simulation and vehicle tests. The simulation and test results show that the proposed control law can provide satisfactory vehicle-to-vehicle distance control performance for various driving situations.

  • Recently, the various driving simulator have been used widely to analyze the handling performance of vehicle and to verify the motion control algorithm of vehicle. In this study, a virtual driving simulator based on the 20-DOF vehicle model is realized to estimate the handling performance and stability of a 4WS (Four-wheel-steering) and/or 4n(Four-wheel-driving) vehicle. Especially the DC motor controlled 4WS actuator is modelled in order to reflect the effect of the responsiveness of actuator on the handling performance and stability. And the realized simulator can be applied to develope a real time simulation system for designing and testing the real vehicles.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the firing elevation driving method for towed howitzer to prevent the musculoskeletal disorders. To adjust the firing elevation, it is required to rotate the hand wheel and this work has been done manually in the firing test range as the same method as field artillery troops. In the firing test range, the motor-driven firing elevation adjustment device was developed to improve the working efficiency and safety. These were compared by using posture classification scheme of RULA and REBA. It was measured elapsed time to investigate the improved operational efficiency. The optimal posture of upper body to operate the hand wheel for field artillery troops was proposed.

  • 전기철도차량의 성능특성을 향상시키기 위한 효과적인 방법중의 하나는 바퀴와 레일사이의 점착성능을 향상시키는 것이다. 점착특성을 연구하기 위해서 실제 차량을 등가 모델링한 점착시스템을 제작하였다. 이 시스템은 다양한 점착 파라미터를 변화시켜 바퀴와 레일사이의 점착력을 바꿀 수 있도록 제작되었다. 이 논문은 공전속도를 제어하는 기능을 추가하여 점착성능을 향상시키는 연구이다.

Improved Direct Torque Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Electrical Vehicle Motor with Proportional-Integral Resistance Estimator

  • Electric vehicles (EVs) require fast torque response and high drive efficiency. This paper describes a control scheme of fuzzy direct torque control of permanent magnet synchronous motor for EVs. This control strategy is extensively used in EV application. With direct torque control (DTC), the electromagnetic torque and stator flux can be estimated using the measured stator voltages and currents. The estimation depends on motor parameters, except for the stator resistance. The variation of stator resistance due to changes in temperature or frequency downgrades the performance of DTC, which is controlled by introducing errors in the estimated flux linkage vector and the electromagnetic torque. Thus, compensation for the effect of stator resistance variation becomes necessary. This work proposes the estimation of the stator resistance and its compensation using a proportional-integral estimation method. An electronic differential has been also used, which has the advantage of replacing loose, heavy, and inefficient mechanical transmission and mechanical differential with a more efficient, light, and small electric motors that are directly coupled to the wheels through a single gear or an in-wheel motor.

  • To reduce the exterior noise level of EMU, there are several ways have been evaluated. The noise sources for the exterior noise level are the traction motor, driving gear and wheel/rail rolling noise. In this article, the ways to mitigate the noise issue for EMU have been investigated and especially the way to protect the noise radiation from the bogie area and wheel/rail rolling noise. The way to evaluate the effect of the side skirt has been reviewed. To install the side skirt, the interface between the side skirt and the carbody and bogie should be examined and the acoustic design of the side skirt will be evaluated.

  • The paper presents the optimal design of a oil-free two-stage compressor, which is driven by 75 kW motor at an operating speed of 39,000 rpm, and the pressure ratio of which is up to 4. First, an attempt is made to obtain the optimal design of a bump bearing which supports a compressor rotor. Second, bump bearings and shaft are considered simultaneously, and the weighted sum of rotor weight and frictional torque is minimized. Finally, the optimal geometry of compressor wheel is considered. The mean efficiency and the - minimum efficiency are maximized respectively. The results presented in this paper provide important design information necessary to reduce the energy loss.

  • In this study, It was designed and developed optimal rotary dressing system of centerless grinding using for ferrule machining. Dressing shaft's dropping is calculated by Finite Element Method, and bearing 7206ADB, 7005ADB is selected. Dressing wheel $GC\Box \;200\Box\; G\Box\; m\Box\; V-100^*25^*16$ is selected by pre-research. Also Motor, pulley, belt are selected, 0.4Kw-60Hz, 48.2 mm diameter, 2-5M-730 type, each.
