  • The fatigue crack propagation characteristics were investigated on dissimilar friction weld of two kind of heat-resisting steels (STR3 and STR35) commonly used in valve materials for vehicles. A small circular artificial defect was machined to induce fatigue crack at bonded line, heat affected zone and base metal of the weld on the surface of the specimens. From the results of the experiment, the fatigue limits of the materials STR3 and STR35 were obtained to be 429.0MPa and 409.4MPa respectably. The STR35 base metal and 1.0mm HAZ specimens showed 190% and 82% higher fatigue life than STR3 base metal. And the fatigue life of 1.0mm HAZ specimen was shown 99% on STR3 and 29% on STR35 higher than that of their base metal. But the fatigue life of weld interface specimen was shown 18% on STR3 and 72% on STR35 lower than that of their base metal because of the weld interface separation.

  • The aim of this study was to develop software for beach litter detection that includes a Graphical User Interface (GUI) and uses images taken by a micro-unmanned aerial vehicle. Videos were taken over Doomo pebble beach, Sogye pebble beach, and Heungnam sand beach on the northeast coast of Geojedo (Geoje Island), Korea. Still images of actual beach litter were obtained from the videos. The image processing involved preprocessing, morphological image processing, and image recognition. Comparison with still images showing beach litter demonstrated that the software could generally detect litter larger than 50 cm in size such as Styrofoam buoys and circular fish traps (excluding small pixel-size ropes). Combining the proposed method with the conventional surveying approach is expected to enhance the accuracy of beach litter detection. The new technique will also aid in predicting the amount of beach litter generated along coastlines, which is currently difficult to monitor.

  • This Paper proposed the prediction method of fuel consumption from vehicle diagnosis informations through OBD-II Interface. We assumed mass air flow (MAF), shor-term fuel trim (STFT), and long-term fuel trim (LTFT) had a relationship with fuel consumption. We got the output as fuel-consumption from MAF, STFT, and LTFT as input variables. We had modelling as combustion reaction equation with OBD-II data and fuel consumption data supported by automotive company in real. In order to verify the effectiveness of proposed method, 5 km real road-test was performed. The results showed that the proposed method can estimate precisely the fuel consumption from vehicle data.

  • The shock separation test simulates the environmental effects of the spacecraft separation from launch vehicle. The shock separation test for a structural model of KOMPSAT-Ⅱ(Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite Ⅱ) was performed in SITC(Satellite Integration & Test Center) launch environmental test hall at KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) to verify the shock test requirement of the spacecraft, to predict the induced acceleration responses on the primary structures and payloads by the explosion of pyre-lock and to perform mechanical fit check. The spacecraft with S/A was mated vertically to LV(Launch Vehicle) adapter simulator via a clamp band, then hoisted and suspended above a foam test bed by four isolation springs secured to the spacecraft hoist fittings to isolate the payload platform shock wave from the sling elements. For separation process, real pyre-devices were used and the time response signals from 60 accelerometers installed on the interested points was acquired and recorded. The SRS responses for each response channels were calculated and the achieved SRS's on the separation plane was reviewed and evaluated in comparison to the ICD(Interface Control Document) value.

  • Leaf springs are widely used as a major suspension component in many commercial vehicles, such as buses, trucks, etc. They have a complex dynamic behavior due to the geometric nonlinear and the contact mechanism between the leaves. The interface conditions between the leaves play a significant role in the global behavior of the comfort and ride of the vehicle system. The paper concentrates on modeling leaf springs and contact frictions between the leaves using a nonlinear finite element approach. A nonlinear load-displacement hysteresis curve for the leaf spring is simulated and its results are compared with test results.

  • The discomfort due to squeaks and rattles appearance inside the car has serious repercussions on consumer's opinion about acoustic quality of the vehicle and may change his economical behaviour. In this paper, we present a set of tools for squeaks and rattles processing implemented on a PC-based two channels analyser and grouped in a friendly interface. (omitted)

  • The AUTOSAR(AUTOmotive Open System ARchitecture) is an open software platform for automotive. The AUTOSAR contains the modules of FlexRay that is the next generation automotive network protocol. We have developed the modules including FlexRay State Manager, FlexRay Transport, FlexRay Interface, FlexRay Transceiver Driver and FlexRay Driver based on the standard of the module. This thesis presented not only the result of development but the result of design and implementation. And the developed modules were ported to the microcontroller board and verified.

  • PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) systems requires very short headways to increase the line capacity and a very reliable vehicle control algorithm for avoidance of the impact between vehicles. In this paper a brake curves (or speed patterns) for PRT system that make it possible the effective vehicle control and a collision avoidance algorithm are introduced. For the simulations and the evaluations of the proposed algorithm a combined simulation platform that consists of Labview Simulation Interface Toolkit and Matlab/Simulink and a specific hardware configuration are employed.

  • Recently, as the feasibility study shows that trans-Korea railway and trans-continental railway are advantageous, interest in high-speed railway system is increasing. Because railway vehicle is environment-friendly and safe compared with airplane and ship, its market-sharing increases gradually. We developed a measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of performances of KHST. The measurement system is composed of software part and hardware part. Perfect interface between multi-users is possible. Nowadays, position data inputs to pulse signal from wheel. Perfect position measurement was limited to slip and slide of vehicle. This measurement makes up for the weak points, Position Detection System using GPS develops. By using the system, Korean High Speed Train is capable of accurate fault position detection.

  • Structure-borne noise is an important aspect to consider during the design and development of a vehicle. In this work. it was desired to identify the primary paths associated with structure-borne noise generated from the engine and front suspension. An experimental source-path-receiver model was used to characterize the system. A variety of primary sources such as engine. tires or exhaust system generate vibrations of the inner surfaces of the passenger compartment of a vehicle which subsequently radiate noise. The source was characterized by the force acting at the engine-to-body interface. and the path was characterized by pressure over force FRF's. The excitation forces were indirectly determined using dynamic stiffness of rubber mount or the system accelerance matrix. Through these analysis, path contribution diagram which is well expressed primary noise path is obtained.
