질화규소의 입계상에 존재하는 불순물이 마모에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Impurities in Grain Boundary Phases on Wear Behavior of $Si_3N_4$)

  • The water test results indicated that the impurities had detrimetal effect on the wear resistance of silicon nitride and the effects were getting severe as the temperature increased. Especially when Ca existed as an impurity the detrimental effects was the most severe. These results were resulted from the fact that impurities lowered the mechanical properties of the grain boundary phase of silicon nitride. The wear test results of glass/glass-ceramic specimens having a similar composition to the grain boundary phase of silicon nitride revea-led that the specimen containing CaO showed the lowest wear resistance. The existence of Fe and Ca at the grain boundary phase assisted forming a grain boundary phase with relatively low refractoriness. Therefore at a given wear condition the removal of deformed layer would be easier. The results showed that the glass phases could be modified by heat-treatment and this modification improved tribological characteristics of the silicon nitride.

  • In order to evaluate the soundness of 10 year service-aged XLPE-insulated 22.9 kV underground distribution cables, semiconductive shields have been characterized. The edge of insulation near the insulation shield shows a drastic decrease of OIT. Impurities such as Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu were detected in both conductor and insulation shields. Their concentrations at the insulation shield are much higher than those at the strand shield. All these facts suggest that the edge of insulation near the insulation shield is degraded considerably, which might be attributed to the oxidation reaction of insulation by a large amount of impurities in the insulation shield.

  • Recycled aggregate (RA) produced from demolished concrete waste can bring about several problems on concrete performance, when it is used as aggregate for new concrete. Because RA generally has lower quality than natural aggregate due to the residual cement paste attached on RA and various impurities. It is also very difficult to ensure that the quality of RA remains consistent, because generally RA is produced variously. Thus, in concrete recycling, it is extremely important to estimate the risk of the impurities which could affect performances of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) focusing on the material flow of concrete waste and its recycling. This study suggests an evaluation result to expect the possibility of impurity mixing in RA production procedure. and suggests a risk evaluation model to expect the changes of RAC performances based on conventional data in Japan.

  • The reflective liquid crystal(LC) imager in one panel Liquid Crystal on Silicon(LCoS) System must have the properties such as fast response time, high contrast ratio(C/R) and voltage holding ratio(VHR) which are more related to the lifetime of imager than the others. As the high-output light including a short wavelength from UHP lamp is exposed to LCoS imager, the indium metal impurities, which decrease the C/R and VHR, are diffused from ITO thin film on glass. To ensure the high reliable LCoS imager for HD projection TV, we have studied the effects of the plasma treatment on ITO film to reduce impurities in imager.

  • The influence of impurities contained in Marmatite ores on leaching of zinc was investigated. The zinc sulfide having the same crystal structure of natural Sphalerite was prepared by heating the zinc sulfide chemically precipitated, at $650^{\circ}C$ in nitrogen atmosphere. The activation energy of the sample was 25.8 kcal per mole in the leach test when oxygen partial pressure was 5 atm. and the value was exceedingly high compared to that obtained in Marmatite ores. Synthetic zinc sulfides added with small amount of each impurities were treated in same procedure. As a result, it was found that the leaching velocity was accelerated sharply when about 1 percent of $Cu^{++}$ was blended to the sample. Larger amount of iron has also same effect but the effect was minor compared to the copper. The other impurities indicated no appreciable catalytic action.

Analysis of CRUD Flake Applied to Abnormal High Beam Current by Shielded-EPMA

  • CRUD specimens, scraped from twice-burned fuel cladding in the Korean Nuclear Power Plant, were analyzed using Shielded-EPMA. The principal elements of the CRUD were identified as Ni and Fe, at an approximate ratio of 1.3 Ni/Fe. To investigate the morphology and composition of the pure metallic materials in the CRUD, coolant impurities must be removed. This can be accomplished by increasing the EPMA current to an abnormally high intensity until the impurities are melted. Normally, EPMA applications are performed at conditions of 20 kV voltage and 20 nA current. But in our study, the applied current was increased up to 1200 nA, over time increments ranging from 5 to 30 seconds. This technique was performed by opening an adjustable aperture for the gun alignment. Results showed impurities contained in the CRUD material disappeared and pure metal materials, e.g., Ni and Fe, remained. This method presents an innovative way to analyze CRUD.

탈수소화 분위기가 탄탈륨 분말 수소농도에 미치는 영향 연구 (Effect of dehydride atmosphere on Hydrogen concentration of Tantalum)

  • Hydride-dehydride process for efficient recycling of tantalum (Ta) is used for manufacturer of Ta powder. In case of metal powder, Impurities as like nitride, oxygen, hydrogen is decreased of physical properties. For manufacture of Ta powder, control of theses impurities is important. In this study, to decreased of impurities on Ta powder using HDH process optimize dehydride condition. Dehydration behavior of Ta is depended on temperature, time, and atmosphere. Phase transition of Ta hydride is analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Concentration of hydrogen is decreased with temperature increased. At high temperature, concentration of hydrogen in Ta is similar according to time increased. Size and morphology of powder is not observed after dehydride. Ta powder, which is less than 20 um, concentration of hydrogen under 800 ppm is obtain.

Effect of post-annealing on single-walled carbon nanotubes synthesized by arc-discharge

  • In this study, high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were prepared by removing the unreacted metal constituents and amorphous carbon impurities using a post-annealing process. Unlike conventional thermal processing techniques, this technique involved different gas atmospheres for efficient removal of impurities. A heat treatment was conducted in the presence of chlorine, oxygen, and chlorine + oxygen gases. The nanotubes demonstrated the best characteristics, when the heat treatment was conducted in the presence of a mixture of chlorine and oxygen gases. The scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet absorbance, and sheet resistance measurements showed that the heat treatment process efficiently removed the unreacted metal and amorphous carbon impurities from the as-synthesized SWCNTs. The high-purity SWCNTs exhibited improved electrical conductivities. Such high-purity SWCNTs can be used in various carbon composites for improving the sensitivity of gas sensors.

PET 사이클로트론 가동에 따른 콘크리트 차폐벽의 방사화 (Radioactivation Analysis of Concrete Shielding Wall of Cyclotron Room Using Monte Carlo Simulation)

  • 사이클로트론은 양자 또는 중양자를 가속하는 장치로써 의료장비인 양전자방출촬영장치(PET)에 이용되는 단반감기의 방사성의약품을 생산하는 시설로 이용되고 있다. 사이클로트론에서 방사성의약품을 생산하기 위해선 가속된 양성자와 타켓과의 핵반응이 필요하며 반응 후 불필요한 중성자가 발생하게 된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 사이클로트론에서 발생되는 양성자와 중성자가 콘크리트 차폐벽과 충돌하여 발생되는 방사화에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 실험은 몬테카를로 모의 모사의 한 종류인 FLUKA를 통해 방사화된 방사성동위원소를 추적하였으며, 콘크리트 차폐벽의 물성은 ppm 단위의 미량의 불순물이 포함된 물성과 불순물이 포함되지 않은 물성을 이용하여 비교 분석하였다. 발생된 방사화 핵종은 RESRAD-Build를 통해 인체에 미치는 피폭선량율 기준으로 비교분석하였으며, 실험결과 불순물이 포함된 콘크리트 물성에서는 총 14개의 방사성동위원소가 생산되었으며, 인체에 미치는 피폭선량을 기준으로 분석 하였을 때, $^{60}Co$(72.50%), $^{134}Cs$(16.75%), $^{54}Mn$(5.60%), $^{152}Eu$(4.08%), $^{154}Eu$(1.07%)이 전체 선량의 99.9%를 차지하였으며, 피폭의 위험도는 $^{60}Co$ 핵종이 가장 높게 나타났다. 불순물이 포함되지 않은 물성에서는 총 5개의 핵종이 나타났으며, 그 중 $^{54}Mn$이 피폭선량의 99.9%를 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 양성자의 유도 핵반응에 따라 불순물이 아닌 $^{56}Fe$에서 방사화 과정을 통해 Cobalt가 발생될 가능성이 있으나 콘크리트벽에 도달하는 양성자의 개수가 작아 방사화를 일으키지 못하였다. 불순물의 포함 여부에 따른 피폭선량의 비교결과 불순물이 포함된 경우가 그렇지 않은 경우 보다 약 98% 높게 나타나 ppm 단위의 미량의 불순물이 방사화의 주요인임을 알 수 있었다.

Benfuracarb 원제에 함유된 불순물들의 glutathione-S-transferase와 amidase 저해 특성 (Inhibition of glutathion-S-transferase and amidase by impurities in technical grade benfuracarb)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 benfuracarb 원제(90.2%)에 함유된 불순물의 glutathione-S-transferase와 amidase에 대한 저해 특성과 해당 불순물의 구조를 밝히는데 있다. Benfuracarb 원제, 유효성분 및 불순물은 glutathione-S-transferase(GST)를 효과적으로 저해하였으나, 그 저해력은 GST 효소 저해제인 ethacrynic acid의 저해력보다는 낮았다. 즉, GST에 대한 benfuracarb 원제, 유효성분 및 불순물의 $I_{50}$은 각각 $9.7{\times}10^{-4}M,\;>1.0{\times}10^{-3}M,\;1.8{\times}10^{-4}M$이었으나, ethacrynic acid의 $I_{50}$$1.7{\times}10^{-5}M$이었다. Benfuracarb 원제, 유효성분 및 불순물은 amidase를 저해하였는데, 이들의 효소저해력은 iprobenfos의 저해력($I_{50},\;8.2{\times}10^{-7}M$)보다는 낮은 $6.0{\times}10^{-5}M,\;4.3{\times}10^{-4}M,\;7.6{\times}10^{-5}M$이었다. Benfuracarb 원제에는 4종의 불순물(IM $1{\sim}4$)이 검출되었는데, 이들 중 IM 2와 3은 GST와 amidase의 활성을 저해하였던 반면, IM 4는 효소활성을 저해하지 않았다. 이들 불순물 중 효소활성 저해특성을 갖는 IM 2와 3을 IR, $^1H$-NMR, $^{13}C$-NMR, LC-MS를 이용하여 구조를 분석한 결과, IM 2는 ethyl-N-isopropylamino propionate로, 그리고 IM 3은 ethyl-N-isopropyl-N-(chlorosulfenyl) aminopropionate로 확인되었다.
