  • This study examines the effects of body image and the hedonic shopping orientation of female consumers on using fashion information to purchase skinny jeans. For this purpose, an online survey was carried out during the recent year targeting female consumers who had purchased skinny jeans. A total of 464 responses were analyzed in this study. The SPSS 22.0 program was used to perform frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results are as follows. First, interest in appearance and apparel had a significant influence on every factor of the hedonic shopping orientation, except for the relational shopping orientation, and interest in body weight had a significant effect on the enjoying, relational, and impulsive shopping orientations. Additionally, body satisfaction, except for the impulsive shopping orientation, had a significant influence on the enjoying, brand, loyalty, and relational shopping orientations; body dissatisfaction affected the brand, loyalty, relational, and impulsive shopping orientations. Second, the enjoying shopping orientation significantly influenced every factor of fashion information, and the brand shopping orientation had a positive effect on mass media information, but a negative effect on street information. Furthermore, the loyalty shopping orientation had a significant influence only on store information, the relational shopping orientation had a significant effect on both mass media and verbal information, and the impulsive shopping orientation did not exert any influence on any factors of fashion information.

  • Most offshore structures including offshore wind turbines, ships, etc. suffer from the impulsive pressure loads due to slamming phenomena in rough waves. The effects of elasticity & plasticity on such slamming loads are investigated through wet free drop test results of several steel unstiffened flat bottom bodies in the rectangular water tank. Also, their cumulative deformations by consecutively repetitive free drops from 1000 mm to 2000 mm in height are measured.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine impulsivity and self-efficacy according to Internet addiction in adolescents. Method: Subjects were middle and high school students in Daegu (N=486). Data were collected by a self-rating questionnaire including demographic data, a Korean version of Internet addiction, impulsivity and self-efficacy. Result: Impulsivity and self-efficacy according to Internet addition were significantly different (F=22.909. p<.001). There were significant correlations between Internet addiction and impulsivity (r=.280. p<01), between Internet addiction and self-efficacy(r=-.288. p<.01) and between impulsivity and self-efficacy (r=-.665. p<.01). Conclusion: These results indicate that the more addictive to the Internet the more impulsive and the less self-efficacious. Therefore, further studies are needed to generalize these results and examine the effects of Internet addiction more broadly.

  • Non-LTE calculations, with the non-thermal ionization effects included, indicated that for electron bombardment, the H$\alpha$ line is widely broadened and shows a strong central reversal. Significant enhancements at the line wings of Ly$\alpha$ and Ly$\beta$ are also predicted at the beginning of the impulsive phase of flares. For the proton bombardment, no strong broadening and no large central reversal are expected. However, due to proton-hydrogen charge exchange, the enhancements at the red wings of Ly$\alpha$ and Ly$\beta$ lines at the early impulsive phase of flares are significant. Our results show that the electron beam can also in some cases generate visible and UV continuum emission in white-light flares. However, at the onset phase, a negative flare may appear within several seconds, due to the increase of the H- opacity. Another spectroscopic signature of energetic particles, i.e. the impact polarization of atomic lines, is also mentioned.

  • In this article, a new performance index is proposed to re-duce the collision impulsive force by controlling the null motion of redundant manipulators. First, we define the normalized impact ellipsoid in the viewpoint of instantaneous velocity change. Then, we propose a new impact performance index based on velocity direction for null motion to reduce initial impulsive effects. It gives some advantage for the case of unknown environment. The optimization of this index is that the successional impact forces are reduced. The performance of the proposed index is demonstrated by simulation study.

  • In a compressor, highly impulsive pressure fluctuations induced by a reciprocating piston and valves cause noise and vibration to be so critical issues that low noise requirement always challenges engineers developing it. A muffler is frequently used for reducing these impulsive noise components, but has adverse effects on compressor's performance due to additional pressure drop and heat transfer of refrigerant when it pass through the muffler. In this study, compressible full 3-dimensional CFD simulations are performed to investigate both of flow and acoustic performances of a muffler in use for compressors. On a basis of the analysis results, a parametric study using design factors introduced to improve flow and acoustic performances of the existing muffler is carried out. Finally, improved designs are suggested to confirm the current results.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of age, sex, cognitive style and reward presentation on delay of gratification. The subjects of this study were 120 children 4, 6 and 8 years of age attending preschool and an elementary school in Pusan. They were identified as impulsive or reflective according to their performance on Kagan's Matching Familiar Figures Test. The levels of reward presentation consisted of the reward which was presented physically and the reward which wasn't presented physically. Length of waiting time was recorded as the measure of maintenance of delay of gratification. The data of this study were analyzed with Two-way ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The major finding were as follows: (1) Delay time increased with age. (2) No sex difference is found in delay time. (3) Reflective children delayed longer than impulsive children in all age groups. (4) The reward which wasn't physically presented produced loner delay time than the reward which was physically presented in all age groups.

  • For the purpose of investigating the impulsive noise at the exit of high-speed railway tunnel and the pressure transients inside the tunnel, experiments were carried out using a shock tube with an open end. A great deal of experimental data were obtained and explored to analyze the peak pressures and maximum pressure gradients in the pressure waves. The effects of the distance and cross-sectional area ratio between two-continuous tunnels on the characteristics of the pressure waves were investigated. The peak pressure inside the second tunnel decreases for the distance and cross-sectional area ratio between two tunnels to increase. Also the peak pressure and maximum pressure gradient of the pressure wave inside the second tunnel increase as the maximum pressure gradient of initial compression wave increases.

  • This paper presents a numerical prediction of the transient hydraulic loads acting on the tubes and external supports of a pressurized water reactor (PWR) steam generator (SG) during blowdown following a sudden feedwater line break (FWLB). A simplified SG model was used to easily demonstrate the prediction. The blowdown discharge flow was treated as a flashing flow to realistically simulate the transient flow fields inside the SG and the connected broken feedwater pipe. The effects of the SG initial pressure or the broken feedwater pipe length on the intensities or magnitudes of transient hydraulic loads were investigated. Then predictions of the decompression pressure wave-induced impulsive pressure differential loads on SG tubes and the transient blowdown loads on SG external supports were demonstrated and the general aspects of transient responses of such transient hydraulic loads to the FWLB were discussed.

  • In the present study, nonlinear dynamic response of polymer-CNT-fiber multiscale nanocomposite plate resting on elastic foundations in thermal environments using the finite element method is performed. In this regard, the governing equations are derived based on Inverse Hyperbolic Shear Deformation Theory and von $K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ geometrical nonlinearity. Three type of distribution of temperature through the thickness of the plate namely, uniform linear and nonlinear are considered. The considered element is C1-continuous with 15 DOF at each node. The effective material properties of the multiscale composite are calculated using Halpin-Tsai equations and fiber micromechanics in hierarchy. The carbon nanotubes are assumed to be uniformly distributed and randomly oriented through the epoxy resin matrix. Five types of impulsive loads are considered, namely the step, sudden, triangular, half-sine and exponential pulses. After examining the validity of the present work, the effects of the weight percentage of SWCNTs and MWCNTs, nanotube aspect ratio, volume fraction of fibers, plate aspect, temperature, elastic foundation parameters, distribution of temperature and shape of impulsive load on nonlinear dynamic response of CNT reinforced multi-phase laminated composite plate are studied in details.
