Fruits of Rubus coreanum (Korean name: Bog-bun-ja) have been used in oriental traditional medicine as the remedies for impotence, pollution, premature ejaculation and frequency of urination etc. It is known to have phenolic compounds as an astringent. By means of chromatographic methods, four hydrolyzable tannins were isolated from the fruits of R. coreanum. The structures of these compounds were established as gallic acid, 2,3(S)-HHDP-D-glucopyranose, sanguiin H-4 and sanguiin H-6 on the basis of physicochemical and spectroscopic evidences.

Realizing the scope of utilizing by-products of silk cocoons by applying appropriate methods is the immediate crave to optimize returns. The nutritive value of pupae suits for human diet, feed for poultry, carps, fish, rabbits, piggery and dogs. The pupal skin, fat, oil, cocoon palade have applications in oleo chemical, soap, glycerin, cosmetic, artificial fibres, membranes and n-triacontanol isolation. The pupal proteins Chitin, Shinki fibroin, Serrapeptidase, glucosamine are latent precursors of post surgical, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammative, anti-bacterial, anti-histaminic, gastric, hepatitis, pancreatitis, leukocytopenia, neurological, ophthalmic, blood pressure, cardiac and diabetic medicines and for preparation of vitamins A, E and K. The silk and its proteins sericin and fibroin are potentially used for wound healing, diabetes, impotence, sinusitis, arthritis, edema, cystitis, epididymitis, tissue regeneration, cancer, post-surgical trauma and used as anti-oxidatives, bio-adhesives, ultra violet screens and bio-active textiles. The waste cocoons can be used in making art crafts like garlands, carpets, overcoats, decoratives and greeting cards. The in-depth research towards utility optimization and make aware this reality to sericulturists, reelers, weavers, traders, entrepreneurs, policy makers etc., is the upright want of the today's Sericulture industry.

A direct connection between certain lifestyle factors and an increased risk of cancer has already been established. Despite well-documented associations, controversial messages on causes of cancer often appear without taking into consideration their impact on the general population. While mainstream coverage of cancer research is clearly welcome, consideration must be given to the risk of transmitting provocative messages with serious negative consequences for cancer research and public health. We must avoid becoming a breeding ground for the misinterpretation of scientific information. Polemical results can stimulate scientific research and progress, but controversial messages encourage confusion and impotence in an increasingly disoriented population. The correct communication of health messages is at least as important as research on risk factors.

Clinical study on one case of climacteric syndrome induced hysterectomy climacteric syndrome is symptoms of physical, mental, physiological in menopausal period. Importance of treatment of climacteric symptoms was on the rise recently. I have treated one patient who has mental depression, anxiety, impatience, impotence, palpitations, facial flushing, abdominal pain in the menopausal period in Dongshin University Oriental Hospital. I took acupunture, moxibustion, cupping, and also I made herbal medicine-gamiguibitang(加味歸脾湯). As a result, I got a good effect through above methods. So I came to write this case report.

'O Ga Pi Ip' has been used in Korea to cure rheumatism, neuralgia, edema, dematopathy, and impotence. The botanical origin of the crude drug has not been confirmed pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'O Ga Pi Ip', the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the leaves of Acanthopanax species growing in Korea and Japan, A. chi-isanensis Nakai, A. Koreanum Nakai, A. rufinerve Nakai, A. senticosus (Rupr.et Maxim). Harms, A senticosus (Rupr.et Maxim.) for inermis Harms, A. seoulense Nakai, A sessiliflorus (Rupr. et Maxim.) Seem, A. divaricatus Seem, A. sieboldianum Makino were compared. As a result, it was determined that 'O Ga Pi Ip' was the leaf of A. sessiliflorus (Rupr. et Maxim.) Seem, A chiisanensis Nakai, and A. koreanum $Nakai_I$.

Leriche syndrome ia a common entity which causes ischemia of the lower extremities. Since the introduction of aortic resection and homograft replacement by Oudot in 1951, reconstructive procedures to restore distal blood flow by either endarterectomy or, later, with prosthetic graft have become standardized. Recently we experienced a case of Leriche syndrome. A 50 year-old male patient admitted with intermittent claudication, impotence, and symmetrical atrophy at lower extremities. Aortogram revealed complete obstruction at infrarenal abdominal aorta and Doppler sonogram revealed only minimal blood flow at left femoral artery.Successful surgical treatment was accomplished with endarterectomy at proximal left renal artery and a bypass from abdominal aorta at the level of both renal arteries to both external iliac arteries with bifurcated Gore-tex vascular graft. After bypass operation, we did palpate with arterial pulse at both popliteal artery.He was recovered without complication.

Rubus coreantim (Rosaceae), which has been used in oriental traditional medicine as the remedies for impotence, pollution and premature ejaculation, bet-wetting and frequ ency of urination. is a fruit drug cultivating throughout southern Korea. The leaves of Rubus coreanum were extracted with 80% acetone. The extracts were separated by Ambellite XAD-2, Sephadex LH-20. MCI-gel CHP 20P and Cosmosil 75 C$_{18}$ OPN. And three flavonoids were isolated. The structures of these compounds were elucidated as quercetin-3-O-${\beta}$-D-glueuronopyranoside(l). quercetin-3-O-${\beta}$-D-glueuronopyranosyl methyl ester(2), quercetin-3-O-${\beta}$-D-xylopyranosyl-(2${\rightarrow}$1)-${\beta}$-glucopyranoside(3) on the basis of physicochemical and spectroscopic evidences.

본 연구의 목적은 수세기에 걸쳐 발기부전(impotence), 정액루(spermatorrhea), 유뇨증(enuresis), 천식(asthma) 및 알레르기 관련 질병의 치료제로 사용되고 있는 토종 복분자 (R. coreanus)와 외래종 복분자(R. occidentalis)의 항염증활성을 비교, 분석해 보고자 했다. 그 결과 토종 복분자의 에탄올 추출물이 외래종 복분자의 에탄올 추출물에 비교해 LPS 처리에 의한 NO의 생성을 현저히 억제시키는 것을 관찰 할 수 있었으며, NO와 $PGE_{2}$ 생합성효소인 iNOS와 COX-2 단백질의 발현 또한 억제시킴을 확인할 수 있었다. LPS 유도에 의한 $TNF-{\alpha}$와 IL-6의 생성억제 효과도 토종 복분자 에탄올 추출물이 외래종 복분자 추출물에 비해 탁월함이 관찰 되었다. 이러한 연구결과로 볼 때 토종 복분자 에탄올 추출물이 macrophage에 의해 생성되는 염증반응의 매개물질인 NO, $PGE_2$, 염증성 cytokine 등의 생성을 억제함으로 염증반응을 완화시켜 줄 것으로 판단된다. 차후 항염증활성을 갖는 복분자 추출물의 성분을 동정하는 연구가 더욱더 필요할 것으로 사료되며, 토종 복분자가 천연 항염증활성을 갖는 제품 개발에 있어 유용한 식물자원 원료로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

LC/MS/MS를 이용하여 발기부전 (impotence) 치료제인 sildenafil 및 유사체인 homosildenafil, vardenafil, tadalafil을 분석하는 방법을 확립하였다. 이온화 방법으로는 electrospray ionization (ESI)와 atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) 방법을 사용하였으며 최대 감도와 재현성을 나타내는 조건을 찾기 위하여 여러 가지 파라미터를 변화시켜서 비교하였다. MRM (multiple reaction monitoring)을 위한 적절한 생성이온 (product ion)을 얻기 위하여 ESI 방법에서는 capillary voltage, cone voltage, extractor, entrance, RF lens를 변화시켰으나 전구이온 (precursor ion)을 제외한 뚜렸한 토막이온 (fragment ion)은 생성되지 않았다. 한편, APCI 방법의 경우 entrance, collision energy, exit, corona voltage, cone voltage, extractor, RF lens, cone gas, desolvation gas를 변화시켰을 때 다른 파라미터들의 변화에 따른 전구이온을 제외한 product ion 생성 패턴의 변화는 감지되지 않고 단지 RF lens 조건의 변화에서 precursor ion을 비롯한 토막이온들의 생성과 더불어 S/N의 증가로 인한 검출 한계의 향상이 나타났다. HPLC에서의 최적 분리 조건과 질량 분석기에서 최대 감도를 나타내는 이동상 조건도 조사되었는데 10 mM ammonium formate (pH 4.8):acetonitrile=70:30 의 등용매 용리조건이 좋은 감도를 나타내었으며, 최적의 방법인 ESI-MRM 방법에서 검출한계 (S/N>5)는 sildenafil은 $0.10{\mu}g/mL$, homosildenafil은 $0.025{\mu}g/mL$, vardenafil은 $0.025{\mu}g/mL$ 그리고 tadalafil은 $0.25{\mu}g/mL$이었다.

발기부전(erectile dysfunction, impotence)은 성교과정을 위한 음경이 딱딱하게 발기되지 않거나 유지하지 못하는 것을 말한다. 잦은 발기 부전은 심장 질환, 비만, 알코올 중독, 스트레스, 흡연 및 우울증을 비롯하여 치료가 필요한 건강상의 문제가 원인이 된다. 본 연구는 산수유(Cornus officinalis)를 포함한 복합 추출물이 발기부전 랫드모델에서 성기능과 관련된 인자에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 발기부전 랫드모델은 Cimetidine/5% EtOH를 2주 동안 경구투여하여 유도한 후, 산수유 등 복합추출물을 각각 다른 농도로 경구투여하였다. 그 결과, 산수유 등 복합추출물 처리군(CPL-300, 600, 900 mg/kg)에서 성 기능 인자(NO, cGMP)가 대조군에 비해 유의성 있게 향상되었다. 또한 혈청 테스토스테론은 산수유 등 복합추출물 처리 후 용량 의존적으로 증가하였다. 더욱이, 산수유 등 복합추출물의 투여는 발기부전 랫드모델에서 전립선의 크기를 회복시키는 것을 확인하였다. 결과를 종합하자면 산수유 등 복합추출물이 랫드모델에서 성기능 인자와 테스토스테론을 증가시킴으로써 발기부전을 완화시킨다는 것을 보여 주었고, 이는 산수유 등 복합추출물이 천연 추출물로 향 후 발기부전 치료에 사용될 수 있음을 시사한다. 하지만 산수유 복합추출물의 남성 성기능의 직접적인 연관관계, 유효성분과 그 메커니즘을 자세히 밝히기 위해서는 추가적인 연구가 필요하다고 사료된다.
