스피커의 전기적 임피던스를 이용한 시료의 음향임피던스와 흡음계수 도출 기법 (Method of deriving the acoustic impedance and sound absorption coefficient of materials by manipulating electrical impedance of a loudspeaker)

  • 시료의 흡음률 측정을 위해서는 비용이 많이 드는 잔향실 혹은 저주파수에서의 측정에 한계가 있는 임피던스 튜브를 사용한다. 본 논문에서는 마이크로폰을 사용하지 않고 단지 스피커 임피던스와 이로부터 도출된 Thiele/Small 변수만을 사용하여 시료의 음향임피던스와 흡음률을 구하는 기법을 제안하였다. 스피커의 등가회로를 이용하여 이 방법의 이론을 설명하였으며, 시료의 측정을 통하여 본 방법의 유효성을 증명하였다. 본 방법은 기존에 신뢰하기 어려웠던 저주파 대역에서의 흡음률을 매우 쉽게 측정할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 본 방법의 장점과 제한사항, 그리고 응용 분야에 대해서 검토하였다.

Stable Haptic Display Based on Coupling Impedance for Internal and External Forces

  • This paper discusses haptic display for grasping a virtual object by two fingers. Much research has been done on fundamental analysis for stability of haptic display. But it is difficult to apply the results immediately to grasping situations by two fingers, since the studies usually deal with a single device and a single object and the fingertip force in grasping situations has two components, internal and external components. The conventional methods, which specify the coupling impedance at each contact point separately, have no other alternative but to specify the impedance for the sum of the internal and external components. So even if only the impedance for the external force should be changed, the impedance for the internal force is also changed at the same time. In this paper, a new method, in which the coupling impedance is specified separately for the internal and external forces, is proposed and the stability of the proposed method is discussed using passivity analysis for 1 -DOF(Degree-Of-Freedom) system. Finally, some experiments are performed to study the effects of the proposed method.

장방형 트랜스듀서의 자기방사 임피던스 계산 (Calculation of Self-radiation Impedance for a Rectangular Transducer)

  • 본 논문에서는 기 확립한 정방형 진동면의 수열을 사용한 자기 및 상호방사 임피던스 계산법을 확대 적용하여 임의정수의 종횡비를 갖는 장방형 트랜스듀서의 자기방사 임피던스 계산법을 제시하였다. 이 방법은 짧은 시간내에 비교적 정확한 계산 결과를 얻을 수 있는데, 분할한 음원요소의 수에 따른 계산정도 및 계산시간을 고찰한 후, 종횡비가 다른 몇몇 장방형 트랜스듀서의 자기방사 임피던스를 산출하여 기존의 문헌치와 비교하였다.

  • For the continuous and exact measurement of load impedance of AC power system on the electric railway, this paper presents a method to show the load area to resistance(R)-reactance(X) plane of impedance plane. The load area is presented in terms of impedance which is in the ratio of voltage and current continuously measured and impedance plane indicates the protection area of fault locator. The proposed method is verified its reasonability by computer simulation, and using this method we will develop the power system impedance analyser which is available actual application.

가변주파수 인버터를 이용한 접지임피던스의 새로운 측정기법 (A Novel Method for Measuring the Ground Impedance using Variable Frequency Inverter)

  • In order to analyze the frequency dependance of ground impedance in grounding grids for lightning and surge protection, a novel method for measuring the ground impedance as a function of frequency were experimentally investigated. The experiments were carried out in rectangular grounding grids with $6{\times}8$ conductors of 22 $mm^2$ buried at a depth of 0.5 m. The test current was injected by the variable frequency inverter whose frequency is linearly controlled for the established period in the range of 5∼500 KHz. The amplitude and phase of ground impedance were calculated from the waveforms of the test current and ground potential rise measured by the band-pass filter tuned in a specific frequency. The frequency dependence of ground impedance was mainly caused by the inductive current flowing through grounding conductors over the frequency of 100 KHz. The proposed measurement method of ground impedance would be applicable to evaluate the transient response characteristics in lightning protection grounding systems.

Nondestructive crack detection in metal structures using impedance responses and artificial neural networks

  • Among nondestructive damage detection methods, impedance-based methods have been recognized as an effective technique for damage identification in many kinds of structures. This paper proposes a method to detect cracks in metal structures by combining electro-mechanical impedance (EMI) responses and artificial neural networks (ANN). Firstly, the theories of EMI responses and impedance-based damage detection methods are described. Secondly, the reliability of numerical simulations for impedance responses is demonstrated by comparing to pre-published results for an aluminum beam. Thirdly, the proposed method is used to detect cracks in the beam. The RMSD (root mean square deviation) index is used to alarm the occurrence of the cracks, and the multi-layer perceptron (MLP) ANN is employed to identify the location and size of the cracks. The selection of the effective frequency range is also investigated. The analysis results reveal that the proposed method accurately detects the cracks' occurrence, location, and size in metal structures.

생체 임피던스 방법을 이용하여 복압을 측정하기 위한 최적 전극위치 선정 (Optimum Electrode Selection for Measuring Abdominal Pressure using Bio-Impedance Method)

  • In this study, we determined the optimum electrode pair for measuring the abdominal pressure using bio-impedance method and compared with conventional methods. Because impedance changes differ from a weight, a height, contractile force, volume of muscle and blood other or whatever of individuals, it was quantified using values of impedance change, correlation coefficient and SNR. Our results showed the optimum electrode pair (1, 9) which could detect impedance changes due to an increase of the intensity of the abdominal pressure. The correlation coefficient and quadratic function between the RMS values of EMG and the impedance changes were 0.87 and $y=0.0014x^2+0.0620x+0.6958$, respectively. It demonstrated that the abdominal pressure could be measured noninvasively and simply using bio-impedance method. We propose that this optimum electrode configuration would be useful for future studies involving the convenient measurement of abdominal pressure by ambulatory urodynamics monitoring study.

Autonomous hardware development for impedance-based structural health monitoring

  • The development of a digital signal processor based prototype is described in relation to continuing efforts for realizing a fully self-contained active sensor system utilizing impedance-based structural health monitoring. The impedance method utilizes a piezoelectric material bonded to the structure under observation to act as both an actuator and sensor. By monitoring the electrical impedance of the piezoelectric material, insights into the health of the structured can be inferred. The active sensing system detailed in this paper interrogates a structure utilizing a self-sensing actuator and a low cost impedance method. Here, all the data processing, storage, and analysis is performed at the sensor location. A wireless transmitter is used to communicate the current status of the structure. With this new low cost, field deployable impedance analyzer, reliance on traditional expensive, bulky, and power consuming impedance analyzers is no longer necessary. A complete power analysis of the prototype is performed to determine the validity of power harvesting being utilized for self-containment of the hardware. Experimental validation of the prototype on a representative structure is also performed and compared to traditional methods of damage detection.

임피던스 측정을 통한 레일절손 검지에 관한 연구 (Study on Detection of Broken Rail Using Impedance Measurement)

  • 본 논문에서는 임피던스 측정을 통한 레일절손을 검지하는 방법에 대해서 제시하도록 한다. 일반적으로 레일절손은 궤도회로를 통해 실시간으로 판단을 하나 궤도회로를 사용하지 않고 레일의 임피던스를 측정함으로 인해서 절손유무와 절손위치를 추정하였다. 레일의 한쪽에 병렬공진을 발생시켜 전기적으로 절연을 함으로써 다른쪽 레일의 임피던스가 측정되도록하였다. 측정된 임피던스가 인덕턴스 성분을 가지면 레일의 절손이 존재하지 않으며, 캐패시턴스 성분을 가지면 레일의 절손이 발생하게된다. 전송선로모델을 이용하여 제시한 구조를 모델링하였으며, 모델링을 통해 임피던스 값에 따라 절손위치가 추정가능함을 보였다. 실제 60m 레일 모형에 대해서 제안한 방법으로 임피던스를 측정하였으며, 임피던스 값에 따라 절손유무가 판단이 되는 것을 확인하였다.

자유 음장에서 빔형성 방법을 이용한 음향 임피던스 측정 (Measurement of the acoustic impedance by using beamforming method in a free-field)

  • In this paper, a beamforming technique is introduced to measure the acoustic impedance at both normal and oblique incidence in a free field. The acoustic impedance is obtained by separating incident and reflected signals using the adaptive nulling method which is one of the various beamforming algorithms. To obtain better results, pressure vector commonly used in array signal processing is replaced with the transfer function vector between each microphone and the white Gaussian noise is suppressed by a wavelet shrinkage technique. The experiments conducted in a semi-anechoic room show that the proposed method is efficient and accurate in measuring the acoustic impedance of sound absorbing materials under a free field condition.
