Ameloblastic odontoma is a mixed odontogenic tumor, which is characterized as being extremely rare, displaying aggressive clinical behavior, resembling a mixed radiopaque and radiolucent radiographic appearance and containing both ameloblastoma and a composite odontoma. Seven-year-old boy complaining of delayed eruption of the left lower permanent 1st molar came to the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology at Chonbuk National University Hospital. The list of our radiographic differential diagnosis included the dental follicle, compound odontoma, complex odontoma and cystic odontoma. The microscopic analysis showed the lesion with the characteristics of an ameloblastic odontoma. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The area was asymptomatic, but the delayed eruption of the left lower permanent 1st molar was observed. Radiographically, well-defined widened pericoronal radiolucency containing several tooth-like radiopacities involving the impacted left lower permanent 1st molar and well-defined round radiolucency containing irregular radiopaque mass were observed. 3. Histopathologically, several tooth-like structures, odontoma components with the area of typical enamel, dentin and pulp, and ameloblastic components with typical follicular ameloblastoma were observed.

Background: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is well known to exert an anti-inflammatory effect during oral wound healing and is commonly applied after tooth extraction. However, no double-blind randomized controlled study comparing two hyaluronate mouthwash products has been conducted so far. The aim of this study was to comparatively analyze the efficacy of Mucobarrier® and Aloclair® in terms of clinical symptoms. Results: A total of 112 patients were randomly assigned to assess the degree of discomfort, pain reduction, redness, burning sensation, and swelling between two groups on the day of surgery and 7 days later in a double blind test, with a total 56 Aloclair patients and 56 Mucobarrier patients. There was no statistically significant difference in the overall discomfort, degree of pain reduction, redness, burning sensation, and swelling between the Mucobarrier and Aloclair groups. Conclusion: The local application of hyaluronic acid mouth wash after wisdom tooth extraction is beneficial in reducing overall discomfort and pain reduction, and the clinical utility of Mucobarrier® is no different from Aloclair®. Objectives: This case series aims to introduce the nasal floor approach for extracting inverted mesiodens. Materials and Methods: Through a retrospective chart review between January 2022 and February 2023, we included the mesiodens patients using nasal floor approach, and analysis the location of mesiodens from the anterior nasal spine (ANS), total operation time, and complications. Results: Each mesiodens was located 10 to 12 mm from the ANS and was covered with a cortical layer of the nasal floor. All mesiodens were successfully extracted without exposing the adjacent incisors or nasopalatine nerve within 30 minutes from draping to postoperative dressing. Conclusion: The nasal floor approach is an efficient extraction method that reduces bone removal and prevents anatomical damage while removing the mesiodens just below the nasal floor bone.

This study reports the unusual complications of 22-year-old male who presented with sudden hearing loss after the right mandibular third molar extraction under local anesthesia with 3.6 ml of 2 % lidocaine. Total 8.75 mg of oral dexamethasone for 1 week immediately after extraction was prescribed in department of oral and maxillofacial surgery but hearing did not improve after 1 week. As referral to otolaryngology, total 600 mg of oral methylon and hyperbaric oxygen therapies were operated for 2 weeks. The hearing of patient was improved at 6 weeks after extraction but tinnitus was persisted even after 12 months. The reason and treatment were discussed with literature review, searching with the keywords ['hearing loss' AND ('dental' OR 'tooth extraction'OR'teeth extraction')] in PubMed and Google scholar at October 2019. Total five cases were reported after tooth extraction with local anesthesia. The sudden hearing loss could be associated with local anesthesia containing vasoconstrictors. Early steroid (extensive medication and intra-tympanic injection) and hyperbaric oxygen therapies were recommended within 2 weeks. As a proper treatment, hearing could be improved but other additional symptoms, such as tinnitus, dizziness, might be remained.

It is a relatively common clinical experience to see an unerupted maxillary central incisor. This phenomenon is apparent at the dental age of almost eight years and over. Among the possible cause for failure of eruption, ectopic development of the tooth germ is mentioned. This is not fully understood but trauma or periapical imflammation of primary predecessors is accepted. The case with no history of trauma may be impacted by the periapical imflammation of primary predecessors. For bringing into the tooth eruption and the continued normal root developement by the Hertwig's epithelial root sheath, there are early considered of surgical invention and orthodontic traction with removable appliance. We reported successful treatment for inverted maxillary central incisor with proper eruption and normal root developement by forced eruption using removable appliance. But further observation will be required to evaluate the final root developement state and amount of keratinized attachment gingiva.
The calcifying odontogenic cyst was identified as a pathological entity by Gorlin & his associates in 1962. This lesion is one of the rarest and most disputable cysts in the oral region. The calcifying odontogenic cyst has variable clinical and radiological features. We review the previous literatures and report 2 cases of calcifying odontogenic cyst at Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Kyung-Hee University. The 1st case was as follows. The patient vas 22 year old female. The past dental history revealed extraction of prolonged retained #73 tooth about 15days ago. She complained a painful swelling on the lower anterior teeth area. There were chin and vestibular swelling on the lower anterior teeth area, tenderness and missing of #33 tooth. The radiograph revealed well-demarcated unilocular radiolucency containing radiopaque calcific flecks around impacted #33 tooth. The clinical diagnosis was COC, so surgical enucleation was done. There was no recurrence and COC was confirmed by pathologist. The second case was as follows. The patient was 72 year old male. The past history revealed inactive tuberculosis, bronchial asthma and denture construction. The chief complaint was rapidly growing mass on the lower left anterior edentulous area. The clinical findings were chin swelling protruding mass with surface ulceration, fluctuation and a few bloody fluid in aspiration. The radiograph revealed well-demarcated radiolucency mimiking the residual cyst. The biopsy result was COC. The surgical excision was done, but the lesion was recurred 10 months later. The treatment was surgical excision with aggressive peripheral bone grinding and FTSG form groin area. There was no problem during the postoperative period.
Background: The surgical extraction of the third molar is the most frequently encountered procedure in oral and maxillofacial surgery and is related with a variety of complications. This study examined the efficacy of intentional partial odontectomy (IPO) in the third molars which have no periapical lesions and are located near important anatomical structures such as inferior alveolar nerve. Methods: Seven patients (four males, three females, $39.1{\pm}11.6years$), who received IPO to reduce the risk of inferior alveolar nerve injury (IANI), were followed long-term. The treated teeth were horizontally impacted third molars in the mandibular left (n = 5) or mandibular right (n = 4) areas and were all ankylosed with the surrounding alveolar bone. During the IPO, the bone around the crown was removed to expose the crown, and then the tooth was resected at cement-enamel junction (CEJ). Any secondary trauma to the healthy root was minimized and remained intact after primary suture. Results: The mean follow-up time was $63.2{\pm}29.8months$, and all sites showed good bone healing after the crown removal. Also, sensory abnormality was not found in any patients after IPO. In one patient, the bone fragments erupted 4 months after IPO. In other patient, an implant placed on second molar site adjacent to the third molar that received IPO was explanted about 2 years after the patient's persistent discomfort. Conclusions: In case where high risk of IANI exists, IPO may be chosen alternatively to surgical extraction to reduce the risk of nerve damage.

Objectives: A mesiodens appears most commonly as a supernumerary tooth impacted in the anterior maxilla. The purpose of this study is analyze mesiodens clinically. Materials and Methods: Gender, crown form, direction of impaction, relation to permanent incisors, and chief complaints of patients with extracted mesiodens were analyzed. Results: Patients were analyzed for motivation to visit the hospital; 85.4% of the patients were referred from other hospitals. Mesiodens was more common in males than in females (3.7:1), and 70.1% of patients had only one mesiodens, while 29.6% had two mesiodenses. Of the mesiodenses, 61.4% were of the aconical form, and the most common direction was upward (62.4%), followed by the normal position (26.0%) and the horizontal position (11.6%). The mesiodenses caused orthodontic problems with the permanent incisors in 46.3% of cases. Mesiodens associated with dentigerous cyst was rarely observed in our patient group. Conclusion: Mesiodens is more common in males than in females and often affects the permanent incisors. Thus, careful clinical and radiological evaluations of mesiodenses are important.

The canine tooth is important both functionally and aesthetically, being positioned between the anterior and posterior teeth. The upper canine has the longest eruption path, forming in the deepest part of the maxillary bone and often experiencing eruption disorders, leading to significant aesthetic and functional issues. Early detection and management of canine impaction are crucial in pediatric dentistry, which focuses on tooth growth and eruption. The prevalence of maxillary canine impaction ranges from 1.1% to 3.0%. In Western populations, palatal impaction is twice as common as labial impaction, while some Korean studies report more labial impaction. Maxillary canine impaction occurs more frequently in women and is associated with various factors such as structural obstacles, pathological conditions in surrounding tissues, developmental abnormalities, and genetic factors. Labial displaced canines are linked to narrow maxillary intercanine width, total dental crowding, and skeletal Class III malocclusion. Maxillary palatal displaced canine impaction is more prevalent in patients with familial agenesis of lateral incisors or conical supernumerary lateral incisors. Understanding these factors aids in early diagnosis and appropriate intervention for canine tooth impaction, ensuring optimal oral health and aesthetics.
The esthetic factor for the esthetic prosthesis were studied on 300 persons. The praaticipants were 150 students registered under the Deparment of Dental Laboratoy Technology, Jisan Junior College at the present day of June, 1995 and their mothers. The results were as follows; 1. The number of persons with 28 teeth in their oralcatity was highest(P<0.01). They complained that they have only 28 teeth bacaues of the loss(deficiency) fo teeth due to their impacted teeth and dental caries. 2. The presons with feelings of dissatisfaction were large in number(P<0.01). They were dissatisfied with an abnormal tooth form(33.5%), tooth position(31.7%), tooth color(31.1%), and tooth size(3.7%) in order(P<0.01). 3. In their facial form, the most numerous were men with square form and women with ovoid form(P<0.01). Among the whloe number fo facial forms it appeared to decresae in the order of ovoied(41.8%), square(32.7%), square+tapered(20.5%), and tapered form(5%)(P<0.01). In a profile form, the most numerous were men with A form and women with B. Among the whole participants the most numerous were persons with B form and persons with A and C form were next in oder of numbers(P<0.01). 4. In discoloration of teeth, the most numerous were persons who have no discoloration. 5. In the esthetic recovery of anterior prosthesis the color matching of proximal teeth was not correct, but the outline of proximal teeth was to be reproduced correctly. 6. In the diastema of teeth, the number of persons who have no diastema was higher than that of persons who have a disatema(P<0.01) Among the persons who have diastema the most numerous were persons who have a diastema, and next were 2, 4, 3 and 5 diastemas in order. 7. In a meeting point of the midline of the body and the tooth the number of person hanving a meeting point was higher than that of persons who did not fit each other(P<0.01). The bias direction of midline teeth appeared to be affected by chewing direction, prosthesis location, and posterior location. 8. The length and width of teeth in the tooth size were suitable(P<0.01). The number of persons who have central teeth longer than lateral teeth was high(P<0.0). 9. In the results of smile analysis, the line form connected with incisal edge of upper canine were parallel(P<0.01). When smile the location fo upper lips should be in accord with the central area of teeth(P<0.01) and lower lip should be atteched to the edge of anterior teeth in order to be esthetic. 10. Among the number of upper teeth we can see the most numerous were 8 teeth and next were 10, 6 and 12 in order.
