  • As a part of efforts to examine feasibility of warm forging near-net-shape process for non-heat-treated steel to replace quenched and tempered S45C steel, the optimized process condition has been determined to be $820^{\circ}C$ for heating, 10/sec for strain rate of forging and approximately 250MPa for flow stress from observed results such as the $A_{3}$ transformation temperature of about $790^{\circ}C$, the fully dynamic recrystallized behavior between $800^{\circ}C\;and\;850^{\circ}C$ when compressed up to 63% engineering strain at 10/sec strain rate, and the high temperature microsturctural stability. Also, controlled cooling rate of $6.3^{\circ}C/sec$ by water-spraying at a rate of $0.10cc/sec-cm^{2}$ for 60seconds followed by air-cooling right after forging process has been considered in this study as a feasible approach based on examination of the microsturcture of mixed ${\alpha}-ferrite$ and pearlite, the hardness and tensile properties meeting specification, and the reduced total cooling time to room temperature. Successive works would be carried out for the impact strength, machinalility, and forgeability at this process in the near future.

  • This study examines the impact of consumer ethics on the CSR motive attributions and, the subsequent consumer perception of the firm's ethicality. Data of 512 adults were collected nationwide using a self-administered questionnaire online. Exploratory and confirmative factor analysis were employed to identify six underlying dimensions of consumer ethics, as follows: actively benefiting from illegal actions, passively benefiting from illegal actions, no harm/no foul, economic benefiting from illegal actions, intellectual property infringement, and pro-environmental behavior. In order to examine the relationships between consumer ethics, CSR motive attribution, and consumer perceived ethicality, a structural equation modeling test was conducted. The results demonstrated that actively benefiting from illegal actions, economic benefiting from illegal action, and pro-environmental behavior had impacts on CSR motive attributions such as strategy-driven attribution, value-driven attribution, and stakeholder-driven attribution. Consequently, strategy-driven attribution and value-driven attribution influenced the consumer perception of the firm's ethicality, whereas stakeholder-driven attribution did not. This study provides an understanding of the CSR attribution mechanism from the view of consumer ethics that are multi-dimensional. The ethical judgements on different types of consumer behavior lead to attributions of CSR motives and subsequently their perception of a firm's ethicality.

  • Purpose: This paper has examined the impact of open innovation business model in technology commercialization with the data from 30 companies of manufacturing firms in South Korea. Methods: The findings provide support for distinguishing five hypotheses relating to development time, IP management, sales, firm size and R&D intensity. To test the hypotheses, data were collected using via e-mail and fax. Small and medium-sized (less than 300 employees) and large industrial firms were chosen for this study. Results: The result shows that openness in its business model is positively associated with successful technology commercialization. Conclusion: The major findings and the implications are: First, as the business model gets more open, development period of technology will be more favorable which gets benefit from rising costs of innovation. Second, as the business model gets more open, large portion of sales are created from new products. Thus, the problem of shorter product life in the market which affects large portion of market revenue can be solved through an open business model. Third, in general, R&D intensity, firm size and the level of IP management affect determination of business model types. The findings also suggest that companies need to increasingly address their external technology exploitation process instead of focusing on their internal innovation processes.

  • Active magnetic bearing has been adopted to support the rotor by electomagnetic force without mechanical contact and lubrication process. A property of the control system for magnetic bearing is improved in accordance with making higher system gain. If the control system has integral part, an excessive overshoot response is shown by making higher integral gain. Therefore, this paper suggests a PID control system in order to eliminate the overshoot at the first stage and improve response characteristics to an impact disturbance at the status of levitation. The control gain was obtained by LQR design method which has the structure of I-PD control system in the state space. The PID control system containing prefilter has the same structure as the I-PD control system. Therefore, the PID control system adopted is able to be tuned by LQR design method. Finally, this paper shows the effect of the prefilter on the active magnetic bearing system through response experiments for levitation responses.

  • Causal order of message delivery algorithm ensures that every transmitted message is delivered in causal order. It should be noted that control information should be transmitted with each message in order to enforce causal order. Hence, it is important to reduce this communication overhead because the impact of the overhead increases proportionally with the number of related processes. In this paper we propose and evaluate effective a ${\Delta}-causal$ order algorithm for multimedia data which have real-time property. To reduce transmission overhead, proposed algorithm eliminates redundant information as early as possible which is not explicitly required for preserving causal order. Average communication overhead of our algorithm is much smaller than other existing algorithms.

  • The synthetic fibers such as polypropylene(PP) and polyvilyl-alcohol(PVA) fiber are poised as a low cost alternative for reinforcement in structural applications. It has been reported that synthetic fiber in cement composites can control restrained tensile stresses and cracks and increase toughness, resistance to impact, corrosion, fatigue and durability. High performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite(HPFRCCs) shows ultra high ductile behavior in the hardened state, because of the fiber bridging properties. Therefore, a variety of experiments have being performed to access the performance of HPFRCCs recently. The research emphasis is on the flexural behavior of HPFRCCs made in synthetic fibers, and how this affects the composite property, and ultimately its strain-hardening performance. Three-point bending tests on HPFECCs are carried out. As the result of the bending tests, HPFRCCs showed high flexural strength and ductility. HPFRCCs made in PVA or Hybrid fiber were, also, superior to PP of singleness. On the other hand, effect of sand volume fraction on HPFRCCs made in PP was insignificant.

  • The functions of shock absorbers are to dampen body, suspend motions, dissipate impact energy, and control tire force variation. During the operation, hydraulic oil is passed between the chambers via a flow restrictions. Therefore the damping force characteristics of shock absorber is determined by the characteristics of orifices and flow restrictions. The uncertainty in design variable affects the performance of suspension system strongly. But, the researches about the influence of uncertainty in design variable such as a fluid restriction's property of shock absorber, on the suspension system performance was hardly ever proposed. In this paper, we used statistical method of Latin Hypercube sampling, and the effects of design variables uncertainty on the performance of suspension system was presented.

  • Joint pain is generally a common disorder not only for the old aged people but also for the immunocompromised patients. The present proposed study reveals the presence of inflammatory diseases in joint generally diagnosed by removing synovial fluid and changes in the volume and composition are examined for the presence of WBC and crystals. This study implement a non-invasive approach to identify the changes in joint fluid by measuring the changes in electrical property of the synovial tissue under the influence of electrical current signal with frequency range between 100 kHz to 300 kHz. The response of tissue for the current signal was measured in terms of potential drop across the tissue. The hardware system design consists of input and output sections. The input section which applies current signal to upper limb joint region is made of ICL8038 function generator IC with amplifier and voltage to current converter. The output section picks voltage variation using metal surface electrode, amplifier, ADC, PIC microcontroller and LCD interface. 100 patient inclusive of normal and disease affected patients where examined for upper limb synovial fluid variation and inflammatory diseases were identified.

  • The variation in microstructure and mechanical properties during heat treatment was examined in a series of 0.27% C-1.0% Si-1.5% Mn steels with chromium contents in the range of 0 to 1.0 wt%. It was found that chromium decreased the martensite packet size through the austenite grain refinement and increased tensile strength in the as-quenched steel, about 70 MPa per 1.0 wt%. The 0.27% C-1.0% Si-1.5% Mn-1.0% Cr steel showed tensile strength of 1700 MPa in the as-quenched steel. The 0.27% C-1.0% Si-1.5% Mn-1.0% Cr steel revealed a full martensitic structure after air cooling from $900^{\circ}C$ to room temperature, showing air hardening characteristics. Tempering at $150^{\circ}C$ slightly decreased the tensile strength and increased elongation, which is in a good agreement with impact toughness result.

  • Data redundancy has high impact on Wireless Sensor Network's (WSN) performance and reliability. Spatial and temporal similarity is an inherent property of sensory data. By reducing this spatio-temporal data redundancy, substantial amount of nodal energy and bandwidth can be conserved. Most of the data gathering approaches use either temporal correlation or spatial correlation to minimize data redundancy. In Collective Prediction exploiting Spatio Temporal correlation (CoPeST), we exploit both the spatial and temporal correlation between sensory data. In the proposed work, the spatial redundancy of sensor data is reduced by similarity based sub clustering, where closely correlated sensor nodes are represented by a single representative node. The temporal redundancy is reduced by model based prediction approach, where only a subset of sensor data is transmitted and the rest is predicted. The proposed work reduces substantial amount of energy expensive communication, while maintaining the data within user define error threshold. Being a distributed approach, the proposed work is highly scalable. The work achieves up to 65% data reduction in a periodical data gathering system with an error tolerance of 0.6℃ on collected data.
