Urban subways usually make environmental problems because subway vibrations are transmitted to building structures. However, when the buildings are designed, vibrations due to subway are not usually considered in advance. This results in many environmental vibration problems after buildings are constructed. This study was carried out to set up and evaluate a pre-assessment technique for the environmental impact of urban subway vibration on newly planned buildings near a subway line. for this purpose, semi-emperical method was set up and vibration measurements were made on site in accordance with construction schedule. Computer simulation was also performed using ANSYS software to predict the building vibration and compared with the measured results for evaluation of the pre-assessment technique.
A structural health monitoring(SHM) technique for locating impact position in a composite plate is presented in this paper. The technique employs a single sensor and spatial focusing properties of time reversal(TR) and inverse filtering(IF). We first examine the focusing effect of back-propagated signal at the impact position and its surroundings through simulation. Impact experiments are then carried out and the localization images are found using the TR and IF signal processing, respectively. Both techniques provide accurate impact location results. Compared to existing techniques for locating impact or acoustic emission source, the proposed methods have the benefits of using a single sensor and not requiring knowledge of material properties and geometry of structures. Furthermore, it does not depend on a particular mode of dispersive Lamb waves that is frequently used in the SHM of plate-like structures.

Accurate estimates of in place thickness of early age (3 to 28 days after casting) concrete pavements are needed, where a thickness accuracy of ${\pm}6mm$ is desired. The impact-echo method is a standardized non-destructive technique that has been applied for this task. However, the ability of impact-echo to achieve this precision goal is affected by Vp (measured) and ${\beta}$ (assumed) values that are applied in the computation. A deeper understanding of the effects of these parameters on the accuracy of impact-echo should allow the technique to be improved to meet the desired accuracy goal. In this paper, the results of experimental tests carried out on a range of concrete slabs are reported. Impact-echo thickness estimation errors caused by material property gradients and sensor type are identified. Correction factors to the standard analysis method are proposed to correct the identified errors and to increase the accuracy of the standard method. Results show that improved accuracy can be obtained in the field by applying these recommendations with the standard impact-echo method.
This study was carried out to propose the new procedure to apply Habitat Evaluation Procedure(HEP) of target species using delphi technique, which is suitable to develop endangered species with few researches and ecological knowledges. To identify habitat quality of specific species in development project site, we can develop habitat model and create habitat suitability maps. In this study, we select the Common Kestrel(Falco tinnunculus) as target species in four areas(Paju, Siheung, Ansan, Hwaseong) which is located near the Seoul metropolitan area. The Delphi technique was selected to get the reliable information on the species and habitats requirements. Through the delphi approach, seven habitat components were determined as suitable variables for the Common Kestrel: density($n/km^2$) of small mammals, area($km^2$) of bare-grounds, pasturelands and riparian, and open area(%), spatial distribution and area of croplands, landscape diversity, breeding sites(tall trees, cliffs, high-rise buildings), and the length of shelf. Habitat variables used in this model were classified into two categories: % of suitable land-cover type(open areas, croplands, pasturelands, wetlands, and baregrounds) and the quality of feeding sites(within 250m from edges of woodlands). Habitat quality of the Common Kestrel was assessed against occurred sites derived from the nationwide survey. Predicted habitat suitability map were closely related to the observed sites of the endangered avian species in the study areas. With the habitat suitability map of the Common Kestrel, we assess the environmental impacts with habitat loss after development project in environmental impact assessment.
We present a numerical simulation technique and some preliminary results of the impact and spreading of a droplet containing particles on the solid substrate in 2D. We used the 2nd-order Adams-Bashforth / Crank-Nicholson method to solve the Navier-Stokes equation and employed the level-set method with the continuous surface stress for description of droplet spreading with interfacial tension. The impact velocity has been generated by the instantaneous gravity. The distributed Lagrangian-multipliers method has been combined for the implicit treatment of rigid particles and the discontinuous Galerkin method has been used for the stabilization of the interface advection equation. We investigated the droplet spreading by the inertial force and discussed effects of the presence of particles on the spreading behavior using an example problem. We observed reduced oscillation and spread for the particulate droplet.

Many engineering issues are caused because of sloshing phenomena. Numerical solution methods including the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique, are used to analyze these sloshing problems. In this study, a numerical technique was used to analyze sloshing impact loads in a prismatic tank under forced horizontal motion. The volume-of-fraction (VOF) method was adopted to model the sloshing flow. Six cases were used to compare the effects of the natural frequencies of a simple rectangular and prismatic tank, with impact pressure on the prismatic tank wall. This study also investigated the variable pressure loads and sloshing phenomena in prismatic tanks when the frequencies were changed. The results showed that the average of the peak pressure value for ${\omega}^{\prime}1=4.24=4.24$ was 22% higher than that of ${\omega}_1=4.6$.

This study aims at integrating economic tools and remote sensing for environmental impact valuation of the Isahaya Bay Wetland (IBW). In doing so, we have used potential behavioral economic valuation technique: contingent valuation method and satellite remote sensing technique: land cover mapping. From the results of the study, we are able to bracket a range of values from (22 to 200 billion yen) for arriving at the true economic value lost due to the initiation of reclamation project on the IBW and would provide a new dimension to get nearer to the more accurate environmental impact assessment.
Dissemination of information can enhance smallholder farmers' agricultural outcomes and incomes in developing countries. However, the impact evaluation for new information can be inaccurate without considering pre-existing information that the indigenous people have used. This study explores qualitative causal links between existing agricultural information used by Lao smallholder farmers on rice yield and selling price with 180 household data. We categorized the pre-existing information into weather, farming technique, input, intermediate trader, and sales price. The source of each piece of information is used as an instrumental variable to overcome the endogeneity issue between information use and agricultural outcomes. Using farming technique information positively affects rice yields by 57.1% compared to those without that information. Moreover, intermediate trader and crop sales information result in 64.5% and 60.0% higher selling prices than non-user groups. A statistically significant causal relationship exists with agricultural outcomes. The more genuine impact should be measured with a newly updated impact evaluation approach that considers this pre-existing agricultural information.

The study aims to investigate whether Musharakah management has an impact on Chinese and Malaysian business partnerships. To estimate the relationship between Musharakah and the Sino-Malaysian partnership, this study uses a panel econometric technique namely pooled ordinary least squares. Ordinary Least Squares regression (OLS) is a common technique for estimating coefficients of linear regression equations which describe the relationship between one or more independent quantitative variables and a dependent variable. Data was retrieved from the annual reports (from 2009 to 2019) of non-financial firms listed on the stock exchange of China and Malaysia. Four partnership measures (i.e., Musharakah, Mudarabah, Tawuruq, and Kafalah) were used to estimate the impact of Musharakah on the Sino-Malaysian partnership. Empirical results reveal that Musharakah and Mudarabah are positively related to Kafalah but the relationship is statistically insignificant. Alternatively, Musharakah is positively and significantly related to Mudarabah. Musharakah and Mudarabah have a positive but insignificant relationship. The findings of this study suggest that management of partnership has a positive impact on firm partnership. Furthermore, it supports the hypothesis that improving partnership enhances Musharakah, which has a positive impact on the firm's partnership.
