  • Clearance movements of engine piston are very related to the piston impact to the engine block as well as many tribological problems. Some of the major parameters that influence these kinds of performances are piston profiles, piston offsets and clearance magnitudes. In our study, computational investigation is performed about the piston movements in the clearance between piston and cylinder liner by changing the skirt profiles and piston offsets. Our results show that curved profile and more offset magnitude to thrust side have better performance that has low side impact during the engine cycle.

  • This study aimed to examine the relation between subjective oral hygiene status of the elderly and oral health impact profile and to present it as basic data for the improvement of quality of life and oral care. The study subjects were 231 elderly people aged 65 and over. This study measured the oral health behavior and subjective oral hygiene status based on cross analysis by calculating the median of OHIP-14 to divide the above-median group into a subgroup and the below-median group into a superordinate group. Correlation and regression analyses were performed to examine the effects on the oral health impact profile. The oral health impact profile according to oral health behaviors was not significant. The oral health impact profile based on the subjective oral hygiene states is currently affected by oral hygiene status, masticatory problems, toothache, xerostomia and halitosis. As a result of regression analysis to confirm the effect on the oral health impact profile, much experience of masticatory problems, toothache, xerostomia and gum diseases is the most influential. This shows that the subjective oral hygiene status is not healthy as the oral health impact profile is high. It is considered necessary to establish an oral health promotion program to improve the quality of life of the elderly and active oral care methods in the future.

  • A hat section was designed and developed for maximum impact energy absorption and/or transmission under low velocity impact. Towards this, different hat sections, having material properties of thermoplastic, were modeled and investigated numerically using finite element analysis (FEA) in the range of 20-50 J impact energy. In the study it was experienced that the design configuration of hat section with curvilinear profile (HSCP) was excellent in energy attenuation capacity and for even distribution of maximum impact force around and along the hat section under low velocity impact loading. To validate the numerical findings, polypropylene copolymer (Co-PP) HSCP and low density polyethylene (LDPE) HSCP were developed and evaluated experimentally in the said impact energy range. A correlation was established between FEA and experimental test results, thereby, validating a numerical model to predict results for other thermoplastic materials under given range of impact energy. The LDPE HSCP exhibited better performance as compared to Co-PP HSCP in the said range of impact energy. The findings of this study will enable the engineers and technologists to design and develop low velocity impact resistance devices for various applications including devices to protect bone joints.

  • This paper presents a study the change of the load profile on the power system by the charging impact of electric vehicles (EVs) in 2020. The impact of charging EVs on the load demand is determined not only by the number of EVs in usage pattern, but also by the number of EVs being charged at once. The charging load is determined on an hourly basis using the number of the EVs based on different scenarios considering battery size, model, the use of vehicles, charging at home or work, and the method of charging, which is either fast or slow. Focusing on the impact of future load profile in Korea with EVs reaching up 10 and 20 percentage, increased power demand by EVs charging is analyzed. Also, this paper analyzes the impact of a time-of-use (TOU) tariff system on the charging of EVs in Korea. The results demonstrate how the penetration of EVs increases the load profile and decreases charging demand by TOU tariff system on the future power system.

  • A number of studies are beginning to show that oral disorders can have a significant impact on the functional, social and psychological well-being of adult. The aim of this study was to measure, the Oral Health Impact Profile(OHIP), which has recently been tested in studies of oral health of adult aged 55 years and older. The sample consisted of 380 adults The measure proved to be reliable and valid, while data collected using this measure indicated that oral conditions have negative impact on the daily, this impact was particularly marked among both edentulous and dentulous individuals who did not make regular visits for dental care. The relationship between the OHIP 7 demention compared with the group based on their dental state and age group was statistically Signification(pE0.01) people with denture were more likly to report having many problems in all seven dimention corvered by OHIP scale than those with natural teeth only These results indicated that the OHIP has a negative impact on the daily lives of a substantial proportions of older people. This impact was particularly noticeable among the edentulous and denture wearers.

  • Abrasive Jet Micromachining (AJM) is a process that uses high pressure air with micron-sized particles to erode a substrate. It has been considered as the most economic and appropriate technique to pattern glass surfaces for the flat panel applications. To accelerate the industrialization of AJM, it is necessary to understand the erosion mechanisms thoroughly. Thus, this paper introduces a new method to model the erosion mechanism in AJM. The model is developed by using the concept of the accumulation of the microdeformation caused by each particle. And this paper proposes the model added the effects of second impact. The developed model is used to simulate the erosion profile, and is compared with the model considered only first impact. It can be concluded that the proposed model predicts the erosion profile more accurately.
