The purpose of this study is to produce a side impact beam with high tensile steel using a roll forming process. The door side impact beam plays an important roll in a car because it protects passengers from external crash. The roll forming process is a continuous bending process wherein a long metal sheet is bended as it continuously passes several rolls. The characteristic of this study is that an impact beam is produced by a continuous process using a ultra high strength steel without a hardening heat treatment. A model was determined by analysing plasticity of a cross section shape considering high strength. Design parameters of the impact beam was determined by crash-analysing the model. Workpiece products were manufactured by designing dies for roll forming and setting them up in a following process line. Results of a bending test and a FEM analysis was considered and reviewed.
Purpose - This study purposes to analyze the impact of regional economic integration and macroeconomic on Indonesian FDI inflows. Research design, data, and methodology - Data were collected from bilateral relation between Indonesia and 21 home countries whose dominant share FDI to Indonesia from 2005 to 2013. Analysis method was conducted by panel gravity modeI to find the impact of regional economic integration and macroeconomic on Indonesian FDI inflows. Results - The empirical results show that GDP of the home country and Indonesia have a positive impact on Indonesia FDI. Distance and home country real interest rate have a negative impact on Indonesia FDI. Economic integration of European Union (EU) and Indonesia's cooperation with Japan in ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP) have created impact of investment creation on Indonesia FDI, unfortunately, economic integration of ASEAN has created impact of investment diversion on Indonesian FDI. Conclusions - In order to increase FDI inflow to Indonesia, Indonesia government should improve the physical and social infrastructures to drive the productivity and economic efficiency. It will increase the GDP and also attract more investors. Low interest rate policy should be considered.
Mechanical systems with rubber parts have been used widely in industry fields. The evaluation of the physical characteristics of rubber is important in rubber application. Rubber material is useful to machine component for excellent shock absorbing characteristics. The impact characteristics of rubber were examined by experimental and finite element method. The impact test was conducted with a free-drop type impact tester. The ABAQUS/Explicit was used for finite element analysis. In the finite element analysis, elastic modulus of rubber using impact force was used as dynamic modulus, which are measured and predicted with dynamic property test and WLF model. The analysis result was coincided with the experimental results.
The wind-blown sand effect on the high-speed train is investigated. Unsteady RANS equation and the SST k-ω turbulent model coupled with the discrete phase model (DPM) are utilized to simulate the two-phase of air-sand. Sand impact force is calculated based on the Hertzian impact theory. The different cases, including various wind velocity, train speed, sand particle diameter, were simulated. The train's flow field characteristics and the sand impact force were analyzed. The results show that the sand environment makes the pressure increase under different wind velocity and train speed situations. Sand impact force increases with the increasing train speed and sand particle diameter under the same particle mass flow rate. The train aerodynamic force connected with sand impact force when the train running in the wind-sand environment were compared with the aerodynamic force when the train running in the pure wind environment. The results show that the head car longitudinal force increase with wind speed increasing. When the crosswind speed is larger than 35m/s, the effect of the wind- sand environment on the train increases obviously. The longitudinal force of head car increases 23% and lateral force of tail increases 12% comparing to the pure wind environment. The sand concentration in air is the most important factor which influences the sand impact force on the train.
Purpose - This paper investigates how business cycle impacts on corporate credit spreads since global financial crisis. Furthermore, it tests how the impact changes by the phase of the cycle. Design/methodology/approach - This study collected dataset from Barclays Global Aggregate Bond Index through the Bloomberg. It conducted multi-regression analysis by projecting business cycle using Hodrick-Prescott filtering and various cyclical variables, while ran dynamic analysis of 5-variable Vector Error Correction Model to confirm the robustness of the test. Findings - First, it proves to be statistically significant that corporate credit spreads have moved countercyclicaly since the crisis. Second, It indicates that the corporate credit spread's countercyclicality to the macroeconomic changes works symmetrically by the phase of the cycle. Third, the VECM supports that business cycle's impact on the spreads maintains more sustainably than other explanatory variable does in the model. Research implications or Originality - It becomes more appealing to accurately measure the real economic impact on corporate credit spreads as the interaction between credit and business cycle deepens. The economic impact on the spreads works symmetrically by boom and bust, which implies that the market stress could impact as another negative driver during the bust. Finally, the business cycle's sustainable impact on the spreads supports the fact that the economic recovery is the key driver for the resilience of credit cycle.

In this study, we propose a 3D finite element (FE) model for the residual stress under oblique shot peening. Using the FE model for an oblique impact, we examine the effects of factors on the residual stress such as the Rayleigh damping in the material, dynamic friction, and the rate dependency of the material and systematically integrate the effects. The plastic deformation of the shot is also emphasized. Then, the FE model is used to study oblique multi-impacts. The results obtained using the FE model are compared with experimental x-ray diffraction (XRD) results; in contrast to the rigid and elastic shots, plastic shots are found to produce residual stresses similar to that shown in the XRD results. Thus, the 3D FE models with integrated factors and plastically deformable shots are validated. The proposed model will serve as a basis for the 3D FE model for multi-impacts with different impact angles to simulate the actual phenomenon of shot peening.
Investigations of the commercial aircraft impact effect on nuclear island infrastructures have been drawing extensive attention, and this paper aims to perform the safety assessment of Generation III nuclear power plant (NPP) buildings subjected to typical commercial aircrafts crash. At present Part I, finite element (FE) models establishment and validations for both the aircrafts and NPP buildings are performed. (i) Airbus A320 and A380 aircrafts are selected as the representative medium and large commercial aircrafts, and the corresponding fine FE models including the skin, beam, fuel and etc. are established. By comparing the numerically derived impact force time-histories with the existing published literatures, the rationality of aircrafts models is verified. (ii) Fine FE model of the Chinese Zhejiang Sanao NPP buildings is established, including the detailed structures and reinforcing arrangement of both the containment and auxiliary buildings. (iii) By numerically reproducing the existing 1/7.5 scaled aircraft model impact tests on steel plate reinforced concrete (SC) panels and assessing the impact process and velocity time-history of aircraft model, as well as the damage and the maximum deflection of SC panels, the applicability of the existing three concrete constitutive models (i.e., K&C, Winfrith and CSC) are evaluated and the superiority of Winfrith model for SC panels under deformable missile impact is verified. The present work can provide beneficial reference for the integral aircraft crash analyses and structural damage assessment in the following two parts of this paper.

The air quality simulation models in wide use for air quality impact assessmetns are reviewed. After an intensive survey and comparative study upon the environmental impact assessment reports submitted to Ministry of Environment during 1990~1998, we could identify the major common problems with the air quality impact assessment procedures. Several remedies are presented here, including use of the screening models applicable to the complex terrain.
Fluid impact tests on plates containing mesh reinforcement and polypropylene fibers were modeled and simulated using explicit finite element analysis software, LS-DYNA. The scabbing dimensions obtained by the experiments and the simulations were compared and crack formations were matched. The objective was to test the accuracy and fidelity of the model and to confirm that damage caused by fluid impact on the plates can be estimated with a reasonable accuracy over a wide range of impact velocity.
